Useful course and resources are gradually improving

After studying many courses in the past in the classroom it took some time to adjust to online learning. Having the CIM Marketing Diploma already, the course has been useful in adding a range of online marketing options and tools to my skills base and I know the CAM Diploma has increased in recognition across the industry since I started it in January 2013.

The course resources have improved considerably in the past few months. The recent live classes are a better way of delivering information about the course, formats, etc - I just wish I’d had them at the start. The tutors are clearly very knowledgeable about digital marketing and it’s good to be able to interact with students and tutors and ask questions.

At the start a better idea about which organisation to pick as assignment and exam subjects would have been helpful. It would have been useful to know that organisations who do digital marketing well seem a better choice for DME, whereas those with room to improvement provide better subjects for the exams and DMP.

I found the original templates/factsheets etc rather confusing- it would be much clearer to only have the assignment details in one place as they don’t always match up– perhaps a fact sheet only or just details at the end of the Lesson PowerPoint presentation would be clearer.

It is difficult to arrange to speak to a tutor on the phone – I have only managed to speak to Jessica once since I started the course in January, but emails are usually answered by Jessica or Anna quite promptly and at all time of the night and day! I wonder whether more staff might help spread their workload. Having been through the process of my first exam I realise how much work the tutors have to do on a 3 monthly constant cycle as well as fielding queries from students.

For the time commitment needed, I found the 100 hours per module on assignments realistic, and achievable when working full-time if you are disciplined, but for the first exam the predicted commitment was 30-40 hours, but I spent well over 100 hours and ended up working till the small hours for some weeks. It would have been much easier to know this in the first place, so I could plan around it. The word count set by CIM/CAM doesn’t provide much scope for creativity or detail..

Overall I am enjoying the course, and feel I have picked up some useful digital skills. I have already recommended it to my marketing colleagues and it seems to be the best-recognised digital marketing course – it has been good to be able to do the assignments at my own pace.
