I took the advanced diploma in photography and feel that my photography has improved significantly as a result. The assessed assignments were particularly beneficial in providing constructive, honest feedback. I liked that you could complete the course in a time scale to suit yourself and I feel like I've joined a photography community with access to chat rooms and forums.
I would recommend this course and would definitely consider other courses offered by the institute.
I found this very useful to study at my own pace. It is much less intimidating to learn this way versus joining a formal Class, which I probably would have shied away from due to inexperience of DSLR photography. Also the course material is there whenever I feel the need for a refresher.
I took this course because I enjoyed photography but didn't feel that I was getting the best out of my SLR camera. The course was just right. It taught me to use the manual settings on the camera which I had tried to use before without much success. The course notes are written very clearly and good examples given. Feedback on your photographs is given by the course tutor and fellow students through the forums. I thoroughly recommend this course to anyone.
This course has allowed me to expand my SLR knowledge and will hopefully improve the number of good shots I manage to capture. It has been useful to understand how the changing of settings affect the overall shot taken.
I heartily recommend the Diploma in Photography as a suitable course for beginners or as a jumping off course for more advanced photographers wanting to take the advanced diploma. I particularly appreciated the very speedy responses from the course organisers to my queries.
The course is full of detail on each and every section of how to take better photographs in many different situations! I am a beginner to photography so all this was very new to me but with a thorough explanation of all the simple functions of the DSLR Camera, I can now take more professional photographs rather than just point and clicking at the scene I wanted to shoot! I'm still getting to grips with editing my shots but with more practice and looking back at my notes on this unit I'm sure I'll get the hang of it! All in all, a great course for new photographs.
I really enjoyed this course, and I particularly liked being able to complete it at my own speed. There are a lot of example pictures to illustrate and inspire, and a healthy number of questions to test your new found knowledge.
This course has given me such an insight into photography from thr basics of the camera right up to the more indepth areas. I have always wanted to get into photography but just never knew how to approach it. Then with just having a baby I thought I wouldnt get the chance. With IOP I can do the course at my own pace and stop to see to my daughter and still pick up right where I left off. This isnt just any course you get feedback from the tutors and forums to ask other people for tips on the best photograph - it's like a community and its explained in a way that even a complete novice can understand. Top marks from me x
Each unit was explained in a way I could understand and just the right length and content not to overwhelm me. For me it was a lot clearer than wading through books and magazines to find sections written for someone with my ability. I learnt more from this course than all the other books as it was aimed at beginners.
Very comprehensive course covering every aspect of photography. All students are encouraged no matter what level they are at or what equipment they are using. In depth study at students own pace. very fair feedback on practice assignments.
This course is great, you can do it in your own time, and go back as many times as you like. Information is presented clearly and everything is very well explained, with the slideshows being updated regularly too.
An excellent choice for photographers looking to learn more about their cameras and how to achieve better pictures.
Having "played with cameras" for a long time, it was very inspiring to learn how to take photos well AND get a lot of confidence in the realisation that I knew more than I realised. After taking this course, I think I could go out and "shadow" a commercial photographer without wasting their time and feel that I was making a contribution. It's a whole world of difference from having a camera to actually knowing how to take a good photo. And I think this course from IOP has given me quite a boost in the confidence stakes. The course does what it states! Many thanks to them and i am determined to take this further!
Although there was a lot of reading involved, I enjoyed doing this course. It was broken down into bite-sized chunks, each section had a test at the end, which could be re-taken if any areas were not fully understood, and I learned a great deal from it. I have been able to go from simply relying on the camera's auto functions to take basic shots to using the camera in fully manual, understanding what I'm doing with lighting, aperture, ISO, shutter speed and composition, and am now taking great shots, and getting fabulous comments in online photography communities. I would highly recommend it.
Because you know that I have completed the IOP introductory course in digital photography you want me to give you some 'tips' to improve your camera skills. I could do this and it would probably continue to help me develop my own knowledge and skills. In fact, it would most likely do me more good than you! The IOP introductory course would better provide you with step by step modules on getting to know your digital camera, its functions and how to use them in taking a range of images in a variety of settings. The module process will give you the knowledge and time to explore each area of digital photography rather than adhoc Q&A between us. Having taken this course, I have gone from someone who could only use the iAuto facility to being able to make full use of my camera and I would now be prepared to exhibit my images alongside more accomplished photographers. I would not be able to do that for you by just giving 'tips'. My suggestion to you would be, take the IOP introductory course in digital photography and then, lets get out there and explore together.
This course is an excellent introduction to how to get the best out of your DSLR camera and the editing software available. I have learnt so much and I look at my surroundings in a whole new way now, to see where the next photo opportunity might be hiding
Great course for those of you looking to improve your skills as a photographer. Not only does the course cover the settings and abilities of your camera, but also what you need to consider when taking particular shots and which settings work well in which environments. A comprehensive course in easy to understand language. I will definitely move on to the Advanced DipPhot course with IOP.
