Prices equal to online but you can collect from the shop. Staff don't interfere with your purchase unless you ask for there opinion. Bought my first bike from here, when it was stolen I had no hesitation to return for a replacement. Very happy with the bike.
Although a great shop it does lack a little with customer service. When looking to buy a road bike I had to literally to wait a good hour before anyone would advise me. When collecting the bike again took well over an hour. The bike was still on display not even been checked over no apology was given even though 2 days earlier I had arranged a time and day to collect. Clearly the hadn't been checked as the gears came undone on my first ride (same day) so back I went. But still a good shop and have recommended.
Good shop to go for bikes for beginners or serious racers witjh prices to match all pockets. Never the hard sell just good solid advice on choosing the right bike!
I have now had a road bike, mountain bike and both my kids bikes from je james chesterfield and the staff have been brilliant everytime. Really knowledgeable, helpful and friendly with nothing too much trouble. Will not go anywhere else for a bike, EVER!!!!!
Well I bought a Giant Defy1 in July and had nothing but issues with the rear wheel, spokes coming loose after first couple of rides, had the spokes changed to crossed and still no better. The guys in the service dept. didn't give a monkeys and neither did James unlike a collegue who through Evans had similar issues and Cube sent him a different set of wheels.
You'd like to think a company like JE James would step upto the mark and and least offer a different of wheels after spending time going back and forwards to get my wheels sorted and still having problems I can honestly say I'LL NEVER BE GOING BACK!!
Thanks for nothing
Had a look on line on their web site for a crossover bike, which I found, so popped down to the shop the following day to see if they had one on display. They had, and were happy to get it out so I could see it better. The guy I was chatting to was really helpful and was quizzing me to make sure it would be the bike that best suited to the type of riding I was going to be doing before letting me buy it - Doesn't that makes a change.
I collected it the following day and they asked me to take it for a short run to make sure that everything was ok with it before I took it home, just a little tweek on the gear change.
They told me they will contact me in about six weeks to arrange for me to take it back for a safety check to tighten everything up etc.
The team in the road performance centre are fantastic and a real asset to JE James. I can't rate them highly enough. I've had really good service from Gavin and the Scottish person (sorry, his name escapes me) in the MTB section too. Paul in the service centre has also been great. They all have loads of experience and give sensible, straight forward, expert advice. I've never bought anything online from JE James as I'd rather deal with the staff and take their advice.
Until 2012 I had no experience of James cycles in Chesterfield but on recommendation from someone I know I went there when looking for a new bike. The staff were very helpful and gave lots of advice. I did buy quite an expensive cross trail cycle made by a well known manufacturer. I am glad I did buy it from James cycles as I have ridden it 1000 miles this year and a lot the parts on the bikes have failed. James cycles repaired the bike every time with no quibble what so ever and no bad atmosphere was felt at any time I revisited the Chesterfield shop.. They have treated me very well and I would definitely buy another bike from them.
Looking for a new 29er spent 30 mins looking when I found one that I liked you have no chance reading the info stuck on a wall at the back of the bike. When you do catch a sales man it's not long before you have two. And one usualy contradicts the others so in the end I went to Stanly Ferns they were great we bought three
I would recommend JEJames as the people who work there know their stuff as they cycle too. They are always full of good advice and I feel I can ask questions about gear and not feel silly. They are always very helpful.
Only been a customer for about a year and have bought bikes, accessories, kit and parts from JE James and have always been dealt with in a friendly, polite and prompt manor. I was recently contacted by JE following an ad hock comment I made as they were really concerned about my issue and could not help me enough. I would not hesitate to recommend this company, they have a customer for life.
we entered the shop an no-one bothered us with any sales chat we strolled around at our leisure an when we'd decided what bike we wanted the staff couldn't do enough to help us there was no pushy sales chatter about having to buy extras we asked the sales person ourselves to recommend accessories would recommend jejames to anyone wishing to purchase a new bike
Bought a Giant Defy 2 at an incredible price and it wasduly delivered with little fuss. As an online purchase I had to to some minor assembly, not a problem.
But I was disappointed when I had to reset the front derailleur as it wouldn't work and also fine tune the rear derailleur due to it making a racket.
I also had to reset the rear brake as the cable was incorrectly routed.
Now these jobs were not a problem to do, but I was annoyed as there was a signed check sheet by JE James mechanics saying these items had been checked... Apparently not!
Bought a bike from J E James on the cycle to work scheme. They were very knowledgable in helping me pick the correct bike in the price range I had chosen. After a month I received an email reminding me if the free first month service which they helpfully organised.
Lots of choices, the staff helped me pick the right bike for me and my needs. I felt i received the best bike i could afford (and reduced price too) ... All my main compulsory parts i wanted were catered for! I Love my Kona! ... Recently been back for first free service and again well looked after! Top notch
Was recommended this shop by a semi pro biker, staff could not be more helpful on several different visits (so it wasnt a one off!!) They all know there stuff and give you good advice, bought two £500+ mountain bikes(neither could be found any cheaper anywhere on the net) including various accessories from here in the last 12 months and I wont go anywhere else from now on, STRONGLY RECOMMEND
Had an issue with which bike2work scheme I was using through work but JEJames took the initiative and setup a contract agreement for me. Was the wrong one as it turned out but they were very flexible to arrange it with my works on my behalf.
They gave me some good suggestions when I asked for accessory options.
The bike arrived promptly once payment had been finalised, my initial deposit was refunded immediately.
The bike arrived very well packaged and protected, it took a good half hour to unwrap it before simply assembly.
Be aware you may need to tinker with the gear alignment but this is simple enough, I had no clue and just searched for relevant videos online to follow.
Overall very well priced and a great service start to finish, would and likely will buy from again
I visited JE James to collect a part I had ordered, it took over 5 minutes for the only person serving to inform me the part would be up stairs, as they were dealing with another customer.
In this time numerous staff entered and left the service area concerned only with making cups of tea and not asking if they could help me.
I needed some decent carbon forks for a semi budget holiday home build - JE James had some Univegas down from £199 to £60. What a bargain I thought to myself. Then the website quoted £20 postage to Jersey. Not so bargain I thought to myself.
One 5 minute phone call later - order taken over the telephone, free postage as per UK rates, forks arrived in a day by courier service in perfect condition brilliantly wrapped.
On this occasion they can't be faulted for price, customer service and all round efficiency.
Just a shame that they don't do British Armed Forces discount! (hint hint!)
Been to a lot of shops where nobody seems to want to sell you anything. Went here. Great service. Even though there job is to sell you things they didn't come across as sales people and would give you there honest opinion rather than trying to sell you the dearest thing they could. Thank you
A call to order a cycling shirt for a son-in-law was made and I was quickly speaking to an exceptionally helpful, pleasant and very efficient person. These days very sadly you do not often have this experience whilst shopping. I cannot speak highly enough of the helpfulness. Thank you
When i recieved an email about my bike been all sorted the managers was fantastic. but when i went to actually picked my bike up the guy was awful with customer service didnt greet me what so ever.
Also the bike has recantly been serviced with nothing actually done to it the wheel still squeaks the brakes havent been adjusted when they needed to be as there is hardly anything there the chain wasnt checked and is all rusted up even though i have kept it well lubricated as i was told to so all in all very unhappy
i now have to take my bike somewhere else to be checked out and i will have to pay for it the bike is 2months old i shouldnt have to do all this after 2 months
If you want a cheap bike then this is a good place to go - great range and some good special offers. The service, however, is terrible. You spend half an hour trying to attract the attention of a sales assistant and don't even bother trying to email them as they just ignore you.
I've used JE James since buying my first full sus. Anyway, took my current bike in for a service last Friday where they found a crack in the frame. Knowing I was away the following weekend they managed to turn around a full warranty replacement and transfer all my upgrade within 3 days.
Absolute top service and I can't thank them enough. I would fully recommend them and will continue to be a happy customer.
I purchased the Giant Revel 2012 bike at a bargain £200, £100 cheaper than the Giant website! It was sent with free delivery and arrived in a few days well packaged and put together. The free mug and tshirt to bike to work in was a bonus, I can't fault this company at all, well done!!!
I decided to give jejames a go as they had the light I wanted cheaper than anywhere else. Was just under the £15 free shipping mark so I added a few other small items I needed and placed my order late Thursday evening - received it Saturday morning. Won't hesitate to use them again.
I was looking to buy from a reputable supplier, that had a good history and easy to use site, as well as the big factor, posting to Malta! It was easy to find the price to expect to ship (not cheap, but it never is when shipping to an island so far into the med). The site was easy to use, and the cart solution was fast and only a couple of simple pages, great stuff, less than 2 minutes to do the order.
Of course I spent ALOT more time reviewing the bikes they had, comparing with review sites, and ending up really liking the % saving shown for a 2012 bike! my bike was discounted over 30%, the range of bikes is great too, i chose a Kona 2012, and got a great discount, and got a GT for the wife, also at a great price, all in all, i think it was easy, saved some money, and enjoyed shopping there online, which can be horrible sometimes!
