I buy regular from machine mart,Had to take an item back as it was not suited, instead of having my refund as every organisation i have ever dealt with do a credit note was given,Hence as you part with your cash the amount stays with machine mart regardless, this is wrong and need to be corrected in line with the general practice
Just shopped online for several £100 worth of tools and the delivery. and quality were great.
the air compressor was over £60 cheaper at Lidl of all places- with their pro-tool label but the identical machine [in green]
the air gun- another badged item is great- except the nails are 3 times the cost of other products- £10 for 210, where as the badged 35o version available elsewhere [in different colours and badged silverline in UK] is £35 for 2500 nails.
Clarkes tools are available elsewhere and bizarrely cheaper- and the nails at Tool-Net are £7 not £10
Also delivery is not free- I phoned to explain that £40 was high and they immediatly reduced it to £25
£10 air hose was rubbish- sent me another and slightly better- still leaks a bit.
So be warned- shop around- paste the specs into google just before you buy.
Was in machine mart in Liverpool , looking for an item which was is the catalogue . With the answer we have nothing like that in our catalogue . My answer being . I got one here two months ago , not here he said . So now two of them were looking at me , at that I took a catalogue from the counter found the item and showed them , The response being your description was not great , apart from me saying colour size material and what it was . I will not be shopping there again . I don't spend much money there but . The company I work for give me open account there . Not any more I've takin the account to another provider . To be told once I didn't know what I was talking about ok but twice. Then call me a layer sorry tough you lose .
Machine mart I could spend hours wandering round. Spending all my pocket money. Give it a go very friendly staff always happy to hel
During the hottest spell of the summer I needed a fan for the workshop and unsurprisingly most places had sold out. Machine Mart had stock were happy to hold it without a credit card. Great customer service and friendly too. Thanks Machine Mart.
problem with faulty goods on arrival sorted out by your customer services personnel efficiently and cheerfully. Not impressed with your delivery service. packaging damaged and did not contact me before delivery as requested.
My favourite shop! Such a pleasure nowadays to go into a shop with helpful, well-trained staff who really know their products. The shops stock in depth and Clarke products all have an excellent spares backup. I've never had a problem with Clarke stuff. My workshop is full of it...bench drill and vice, bench sander, 1200W mains drill, jigsaw, drill/driver (though that's a de Walt bought at Machine Mart), router, socket sets, low-profile car jack, handsaws, various hand tools.
Everything is laid out well and the shop is easy to navigate.
It is only my opinion that Clarke machinery is a little less than good and I have found over the years that if I can afford it, I would buy any other make of machine to avoid Clarke machines.
The service is acceptable and on the whole it is a pleasurable business walking around and dreaming of stuff you would like.
I have always found the staff at Machine Mart to be very friendly and knowledgeable and it is always a pleasure to go there. Things I have wanted to buy always seem to be in stock which in this day and age other retailers could take a great lesson from.
Received an email offering a reduced rate of vat on orders, on this basis as I had thought of buying a number of items , tried to order on-line but there were operational problems on their site so ordered by phone. The person took the order and deducted the percentage vat on the majority of the items but told me the ladders were outsourced and that I would not receive the advertised rate but a smaller discount, as these were required carried on with the order which was early August and from the order was given delivery dates. The bulk of the items turned up as specified but the ladders did not arrive when promised, days turned into weeks so phoned Machine Mart to be told there had been a problem in the factory of Youngman and they would arrive on the following Friday or Monday, they did not. They arrived on the Tuesday. No word from Machine Mart, no phone call to inform about a problem, no apology, as if when sold it was not their problem. A simple phone call would have meant an awful lot. In conclusion in future any deals from MM shall be read far more carefully to ensure I understand how much of a discount and delivery of said items, ie in stock or from outsource suppliers.
having lots of different hobbies that require tools and materials, I find that Machine Mart can usually provide what I want at a reasonable price, there is a variety of quality so it pays to get hands on to see if you feel the item is suitable for the job, having said that the staff are only to pleased to exchange or refund if the item is not suitable, overall I would rate Machine Mart as a solid 8 out of 10, high praise indeed from a very fussy buyer/user
The person who served me was extremely helpful and I was very pleased with his recommendation. My criticism concerns the suffocating heat in the store in Portswood, Southampton. It was a hot day and the store was like an oven. Some large fans that were operating only served to push the hot air around - they did nothing to aid any sense of cooling. Not exactly 21st century conditions!
Machine mart are not always the cheapest supplier - a search ofg the internet will frequently come up with a cheaper price but they do carry nearly everything in the catalogue in stock.
Unfortunately, my most recent purchase was faulty and I had to take it back but because they are open on a Sunday, theat was fairly easy and they exchanged it without a quibble once they had confirmed that it was faulty.
I use the Norwich Depot.
Plenty of items on display and staff always at hand to offer good advice.
Also good parking.
I have items marked in the paper catalogue at home just in case any family members are stuck on what birthday and Xmas presents to but for me. :)
Thanks and Regards,
Years ago, I needed a low-end, high range rod welding kit, i.e. the cheapest kit that will manage 6mm rods. The Machine Mart web site showed me the range of products and where in the range the 6mm rod support starts. I called the Southampton depot to see if there was one in the shop. There wasn't, so the bloke I spoke to said he could get one in by the afternoon. That afternoon I met him in the shop and he helped me get the kit in to the back of my land rover. I knew I would need that help, as the range guide warned me it would weigh over 60kg.
Later on, I needed a mid range engine hoist, i.e. one that has got medium lifting capability with a fairly long reach. I looked up the stats on the range guide, phoned them up to check there was one there and the guy I spoke to helped me get it in the back of the land rover on the same day
I recently burnt out my hand held 115mm disk grinder, so I decided to get a more powerful one. On the web site I found Machine Mart had a contractor range of tools and I could get a grinder twice as powerful. Phoned up, drove up, brought one home.
I purchased a.hand cart that snapped in half so machine mart said 3 weeks.and I would have it back. Over 6 wks later I had to phone all the time to see if replacement had come.in and mean while had to purchase a new one while I.waited for mine to come back.
I use the Maidstone store. Their stock levels are good as are their opening hours.
The service is however most disapppointing. If you have a problem with an item purchased from the store they are not really interested. If you want to find out if they have something in store the attitude is the same.
Sadly the attitude is perpetuated by the long serving staff. On a recent visit there was a new youngster who was keen to help but the long termers gave him such withering looks that he was clearly troubled.
A bunch of useless jokers.
Bought a cast iron stove 3 years ago. The bottom grill burned out in weeks.
Am still waiting for a replacement.
Everytime I rang up they could never trace the order.
The nearest that I got to the spare part required was an offer to allow me to take one from a stock item, if I brought my own tools and removed it myself !!
Always good service, but wish I didn't have to give postcode for every purchase. After sales and spare parts can be a pain if you don't have card to purchase spare / replacement parts online or over the phone. Can't pay in store for spares and have them delivered to store. Bummer. However, small niggles don't make for bad service. Edinburgh store staff always pleasant and helpful.
Although you were quick enough to charge for product and advised seven day delivery I contacted cust service after fourteen days was told had to order item in and should be with me next day , it was. I would have preferred to know this and I would have preferred payment to take place immediately before despatch
