Always good for me. Great for browsing and normally find something interesting to Buy. Good return policy. Cant go to far wrong here. Most of the staff are helpful, although they can be very cocky and think they know everything and they definitely don't.
I have been a regular customer at Maplin for a long time. I found the store in Orpington really good. Recently moved to Camberley and had to use the Farnborough store. I cant say the same about this store. People arent very helpful. They dont seem to know the products they sell and the store manager seems to have an ego of his own.
Where has all the good "maplin customer service" gone? I wonder if Maplin does have an "ABC course in customer service". The Farnboro, Hampshire store could certainly do with a bit of that.
I purchased a colour changing shower head from maplins and after fitting it turned the shower on. The shower head shook violently for a few seconds without any water coming out, then I heard a bang from my shower. After consulting with maplins and an electrician, it would seem that the shower head operates on a water wheel which spins around inside the unit to create power for the L.E.D's inside the head. On this occasion the water wheel had jammed causing back pressure inside the shower and consequently blew a heating element inside my shower.
After complaining to Maplins, they said they would return the shower head to their "technical department" for testing, and after a week or so, they informed me they would not be repairing my shower as they could now not find anything wrong with the shower head.
They refunded me for my original purchase but would not be compensating me for the damage caused by their product.
My shower was operating fine before using this gimmick of a product and find it odd that my shower broke after fitting their product.
I wont be using Maplins again, I feel that they have neglected their responsibilty to put right damage caused by using one of their products.
I am now out of pocket by well over £100 now to buy a new shower unit and the cost to have it fitted now by a plumber.
I am disgusted by Maplins service on this occasion and will look elsewhere for electrical and electronic products.
I have spent so much money with this company as well :(
Goodbye Maplins
Whenever i need a new telephone outlet, extension lead, socket front or even parts for my fiance's hobby of electronics Maplins is the first place I visit. The in store knowledge is excellent and the online store is great for browsing and also to purchase from for home delivery.
i used maplin for over 20 years ,
signs use to be red and had loads of components
change signage to blue and shop started to go down hill
i find that the shops are overstaffed with little or now knowledge
they only stock bear minimum components
and prices are way too expensive
Expensive and behind the times when it comes to energy saving stuff, led lighting in particular.
However a good source of information as the staff are well informed and helpful........
So find out what you need to know then go home and order it off the Internet!
Job done!
I love this shop. I built up a great pc with parts I bought from Maplins. I've modded a couple others again with quality parts I've bought from Maplins, at very reasonable prices.
I bought something on the 9th December and they debited my card FOUR TIMES for it. Apparently it happened to everyone who paid by card in the Llandudno branch on that day.
I'm having to wait up to the 16th December to get my money back.
What if I had been on the borderline and gone into overdraft through this mistake?
What if I'd been someone trying to buy the family groceries and had my card refused because of this?
Shame on you Maplin, if it had been possible, I'd have given you no stars.
Maplins was the electronics supplier to use... brilliant component supplies and no bad prices.
Now they have abandoned components and electronics for cheap imported tat toys and gimmicks.
Shame. I have switched to Farnell and their supplies are far superior.
Ive used Maplin since long before the Internet was around and they have always offered good value and service. They automatically deduct VAT for export orders and their customer service is very good.
it is a brilliant store has near enough every electronic or technical thing you could think of i can never get off it but the prices are a bit higher than you would expect
The Newcastle store has a good range and reasonable prices for a high street retailer. The service and returns policy at this particular store is good.
The Maplin store in Cardiff is like an Aladins cave. There are many treasures to be found and it's very nearly a magical place. I could spend a whole day in the store going through all the fantastic electrical equipment. Prices are very good and usually the cheapest around.
Staff are always very helpful and very knowledgeable about all their stock and are always available for advice on any purchase.
Great store which I will use repeatadly.
I love Maplin, there's just so much stuff in there it's like an ideas factory!
Online is much better than in store because of the wider range, created a retro radio for my camper just so i could use some cool old skool toggle switches.
This companys policy on refunds is ridiculous. They do not abide by the consumer law.
I wouldnt ever recommend them.
No chance!!
I use Maplins quite alot and have always found them to be very helpful and well informed. Also if you have a problem with anything they sort it very quickly.
Great place for all your techno gadgets.
The website carries so little information about the individual products that it is impossible to purchase safely unless you have prior knowledge of the items. I have wasted a lot of money on Maplin trying to buy something - and getting what I don't want. I won't be bothering again.
The last time I tried to buy something online at Maplin.co.uk, the payment system on the website was in a shambles and my Debit card failed to "take" properly. There was no possible way of making an alternative payment transaction and so I had to abandon the purchase and phone Maplin at their head office.
They advised me that my complaint could not be dealt with for at least 3 weeks because they were suffering from staff shortages due to sickness.
This inflamed my temper to the degree that I now refuse to purchase anything from them because I had no confidence that they were dealing with online selling in a responsible way.
I left their site alone and hoped that I'd not be needing something in future that was only available through them because I'd have fat chance of making a purchase online.
A member of my family has had more luck going to their actual store but for me that's not an option as they have too little coverage over the UK and nearest depot is hundreds of miles from my home.
They may have improved over the last 5 years or so but only reading other reviews will tell if they get a high rating now. I hope they do but I can't in all honesty give them high stars based on my past experience.
I love browsing around Maplins, but only buy if I need something immediately. I would be happy to pay 10% more than the market, but 25% is too much
where would you find a resistor, transistor, that special cable you need??
MAPLIN thats where. pity they still charge for the catalogue but great store and website. highly recommended.
We have used Maplins over the years both in store and via the internet. Overall the product range is good and the service efficient
I have bought from Maplin for many years and really only stopped about a year ago due to the appalling way in which they dealt with an issue. I bought a product from them which was faulty (had several faulty items in the past), took it back but forgot to remove a £30 SD card from it. Phone a couple of days later to be told it was sent to the head iffice... from ther eon I contacted them by phone and letter over several months but they never found the returned item and gave a could not care less attitude to my issue. The SD contained some irreplacable photos so was a bit dissappoinment to lose it.. I always look el;sewhere first now and would only buy from Maplin if I could not source the product elsewhere.
I only awarded Maplin 3 stars because of their prices. They aren't cheap.
On the other hand, they provide far more of a range than most electronics stores, what with their project boxes and telescopic ladders...
All in all, I have recieved good customer service from these guys, and my other half has a fit every time we drive past because he thinks we might be popping in. It's a bit like a dog in the car, thinking we might be going to the park when really we're going to the vet.
On another note, the block rocker's that Maplin sell are well worth the huge amount of cash they cost. Fantastic product!
I just changed you to four star because of that product. Well done you!
I needed 2 adaptors for my old synths I called Maplins Hereford where a lady answered great telephone advice-great telephone manner and sound advice I arrived later on to be served by the same young lady who had taken (and remembered my call) great sales service and advice and directed me to a lower price item :) very impressed with her sales service and also bow to her greater knowledge of electrical power :) first class shop well done Hereford STAFF.
If you need something along these lines this is the shop to use. The staff are knowledgable and the range of products comprehensive.
The only place on the high where you can get those elusive electronic items. I love browsing round these shops and always spend more than I intend because of the vast range of stuff.
maplin edmonton is an absolutely useless store. staff wrongly advise to sell products and then when returned give a hard time exchanging.
Never had a problem with the quality but they are pricey. It would be interesting to carry out a few price comparisons. Who knows where they get their customers from? Anyone with a PC can probably source the goods cheaper elsewhere.
as a specialist shop in electronics you would think that they would have a wide selection of solder, not so. they don't even have something as basic as simple as 60/40 0.46mm solder. the 1mm solder takes far too long to melt, and the tips for the solder irons are poor, they should at least be chisel, not point.
BEST SHOP FOR BUYING GADGETS AND CHEAP PRICES AND VERY BROUGHT SOME CAMPING LANTERNS FROM THEM AND HAVE BEEN GREAT LITTLE GADGETS LAST ME LIFE TIME BATTERY'S NEVER SEEM TO RUN OUT AND GOT HELPFUL STAFF :)
Only Maplin can make you understand about all features in easiest language! They just need to put cheap price on refurbished or category 3 products!
