Customer service doesn't read nor care

I've shopped with plenty of international sites before, i.e. ASOS, Lovarni, Dorothy Perkins, and I have NEVER EVER been charged import tax even when my order was almost $1000. I placed a $300 order with Missguided and didn't see any mention of import tax while checking out. Turns out you have to find the page that states they only cover taxes if the order is under $200. Had I known this, I would've broken my order into several shipments since the shipping was free anyways! I find it ridiculous that they basically penalize or discourage customers from buying more. A few days later, I received an invoice for $18.39. I wrote to Customer Service at Missguided stating that I would rather refuse the shipment than pay the tax and asked them how to proceed. I received a generic response stating that I had to pay the import tax with no answer to my question and no help or concession whatsoever. They should've offered to pay the import tax as a one time courtesy being as it was my first order with them and their policy was not posted in a conspicuous spot.

Furthermore, I had placed a second order in which one of the items turned out to be out of stock. No smooth transactions here.

    Hi Shana,

    I am sorry for any confusion that this has caused! We do state on our website under shipping& delivery information that all orders under $200 will not be subjected to custom charges.

    We cannot, unfortunately, cover import duties and tax costs on orders over $200 as the charges do vary and we do not have any control over what they may be. We do recommend that you contact your local customs office for further information on charges.
