Recently purchased the excellent Parson's Essential with medium italic nib. My order was processed and shipped within an hour. The pen is high quality construction with a smooooth writing nib that really lays down a generous line, just the way I like it. I've already ordered another, with the broad italic. Great value. Highly recommended.
I heard about the 'Parson's Esential' fountain pen from mrpen.co.uk and ordered one. A really good value, quality pen with a retro design. Excellent value for money and with a wide choice of nibs. I had asked for the engraving (surname) to be fully upper case, but it arrived as sentence case. Once I raised this directly it was immediately and cheerfully recitified. Excellent product and excellent service.
I am speaking to a friend!- you're my cousin's husband after all. Seriously though Peter, I love the pen (a little X~mas present to myself), and thanks so much for clearing up the minor payment glitch so quickly. Even coming to Ireland, and allowing for a weekend in between, my pen arrived within four days of ordering. Thanks.
Have a happy christmas both of you.
I ordered a black Italix Parson's Essential through mrpen.co.uk. It was delivered the next day, packed in a very modest black box with a Mr. Pen logo inside. The pen is very beautiful with the celtic knot design. The engraving is very neat and pleasing to the eyes. On one hand I thought the black piano lacquer had inadequate contrast, but on the other, it has been finished very well. As I ordered a medium italic nib (this one being my first), It took some time to get used to it. After making some adjustments to the nib feed the pen worked like a charm. Mr. Peter Ford was very cooperative in answering queries. He may sound a bit laconic at times, but he knows his work very well. Recommended to any and every fountain pen enthusiast.
You guys are top shelf.
I bought an Italix Parson's Essential fountain pen, with a customized 1.1 italic nib (0.65mm). The pen arrived swiftly, beatifully presented and finished. The pen is one of the be fountain pens I own, with excellent fluidity of ink and good balance when held (I like relatively heavy pens). The price was a bargain: the equivalent in a better-known brand woul have cost four times the price.
My only criticism is that the range of designs could be a little more "jazzy" with unconventional colours. However, as an everyday writing pen, it is a "must have".
Highly recommended seller all round!
Phoned initially for advice and then ordered on line. Very prompt and beautiful pen. I needed a slight adjustment on the nib which was taken care of immediately. Fantastic service which i would not hesitate to use again
I ordered this fountain pen and received it the very next day! Excellent service and the pen is beautifully presented. It can be used with cartridges or the old fashioned way. Most companies charge you extra for this. I bought this for my husband for Christmas and I think he will be absolutely delighted, what makes it even more special is the engraved plaque with my personal message. I can't wait to see his face when he opens it!
This first time experience didn't start off very well at all. I made an enquiry about Cross Pen availability and 'price matching' I received a very terse response from Peter Ford. When I pointed out that this was not the customer service that the website suggested would be provided Mr Ford complained that he didn't care for my tone!
I pointed out that he had provided an unhelpful response and hadn't actually answered the questions that I'd put to him. A further response followed and he was able to agree to a Price Match for the model of Cross Pen that I wanted.
This was subsequently ordered and delivered at the matching price.
Unfortunately you are only given one opportunity to create a good first impression and for me it was the wrong one! After all I was a potential customer.
The website is very good and really informative but in my experience (albeit limited) the real experience didn't live up to the claims!
I might give them another chance in the future but at the end of the day it is not just about prices.
Having decided, at the ripe old age of sixty-four, to teach myself how to write with my right hand instead of my left one, I struggled for quite some time to find a decent italic fountain pen that would help me achieve this lifelong, albeit secret, ambition of mine.
I come from the age of dip pens and inkwells and so, in order to avoid getting regularly smacked around the head by a sadistic schoolmaster for smudging my copy book, I soon developed a hooked style of handwriting. Although writing this way was unsatisfactory, I was no longer at risk of suffering permanent brain damage at the hand of a thug who, to add insult to injury, purported to be a Christian.
Having tried a number of so-called calligraphy pens - no names, no pack drill - over these past few months, and found them all to be useless, I nearly threw in the towel.
However, thanks to the wonders of the internet, I eventually came across PJ Ford and Associates and, having read some impressive reviews, bought myself their Italix Parsons Essential fountain pen, in a blue lacquer finish and with a broad italic nib.
The result has been what I can only describe as transformational. This pen writes superbly, is well made and beautiful to look at. I am a very happy and ambidextrous customer in what is and has always been for me a decidedly right-handed world.
Thank you, PJ Ford and Associates, for putting quality first in a world gone mad.
I loved this pen, Parson's Essential, overall it is a perfect daily fountain pen. The nib is very nice, but sometimes skip, you need to hold it well; mine is oblique italic medium.
Clip is tighter than it should be, I wonder if I lose the screw in the cap, it would be better; this irritates me most.
Its nib size is wider than most European pens. Not a big deal.
Overall this Italix Fountain Pens is a must have for FP enthusiasts.
The pen arrived quickly and is a quality product. I haven't used it much as yet but my first impressions are good. I would certainly recommend P.J. Ford to anyone who is looking to make a similar purchase.
I have held back from giving 5 stars as the guidance and instructions that accompanied the pen were quite poor. I expected that for such a good pen, there would be a better user manual/care instructions other than a basic photocopied sheet explaining how to fill the pen with ink and what ink is recommended. A properly presented manual complete with care, cleaning instructions and information on what spares (nibs etc.) and other products are available would be far better, as it would demonstrate a pride in what P.J. Ford are selling, let alone provide a free advertising tool for them.
I am however, impressed with the pen itself and would consider buying from P.J. Ford again.
With multiple fountain pens from renowned European and Asian manufacturers, I thought myself content and my collection complete. Then, I began to learn from trusted reviewers about Italix-brand pens from the UK. With testimonies of rare quality and superlative nibs mounting, I checked the Mr. Pen website and found that these pens were highly affordable, even with UK-US shipping. In quite quick succession, I ordered a Parson's Essential, a Churchman's Prescriptor and a Captain's Commission, with varying cursive or italic nib designations. Remarkably, and without exception, the writing experience of each was equal to my most favored Pelikans, Sailors and Viscontis in terms of ink flow and nib smoothness. But the distinction of Italix pens is in their look and feel--gleaming black piano lacquer over a solid brass core puts both style and substance in the hand. These are not delicate pens, but neither are they clunky--they're...serious. And very cool.
I watched SBRE Brown's Youtube review (Inkcylopedia) on the Churchman's Prescriptor and he was exactly right, this pen is excellent and I agree with all his positive observations. This has been one of my best pen buying experiences.. Thank you P.J. Ford and Associates. I am sure this will not be the only pen I purchase from Italix.
From my (many) initial questions to the amazingly fast response upon ordering and--last, but not at all least--the quality of the pen, my experience with Mr. Pen was top notch. And can I say agin: my new Italix Parson's Essential is far from the most expensive pen I have (or had), but it is certainly among the top 2-3 in performance. Fantastic. My only problem: now I have to buy more!
Dear Mr. Pen,
For years I thought about getting a fountain pen, but never got around to doing so. I finally decided to get my first one from you based on an online recommendation. All I can say is wow! The quality and craftsmanship and ease of writing of your pens have given me the fountain pen bug. I write with it all the time and really enjoy showing it off. Thank you Mr. Pen! You are on of the best at your craft!
I had been looking for a reasonably priced, good quality fountain pen to replace an older Parker pen. The Italix Originalis pen is a wonderful pen - solid, well built and writes smoothly. Getting three nibs with the pen has also proved to be quite useful as the nib that I expected to use for normal writing was actually finer than expected. It is also a bonus that it is built in Europe rather than offshore.
Disappointingly, the pen I wanted was not available for 3-4 weeks.
That said, it may not always be a problem to wait, and communications were prompt and friendly, and my money was quickly refunded. I would use the seller again without hesitation, making allowance for the stock situation.
This is a beautiful pen at a great price. It was bought as a gift so really wanted the guarantee which is always enclosed with Cross pens. I emailed them 8 days ago enquiring about it and although I received an acknowledgement, I have yet to receive a response.
I have way too many fountain pens for a sane person to own, but am delighted to have added a trio of Italix Parsons Essentials. Mr. Ford is a patient and helpful proprietor offering a remarkably well-priced product. My Parsons Essentials are among the best writing pens I own at any price, and I am looking forward to adding the new "holiday" colors to my collection The price can't be beat. The quality can't be beat. It is a pleasure to do business with Mr. Ford.
I realised I'd made a mistake with my original order so phoned P.J. Ford & Associates to discuss the possibility of exchanging my pen for something more suitable.
I now have a beautiiful pen which Mr Ford personally recommended to better suit my needs. The whole process was conducted promptly, efficiently and with great courtesy.
I was looking for a pen which would be nice to look at, to hold, and to write with... The result is beyond my expectations! I acquired a medium oblique nib, and the writing is so smooth it's incredible. I'm thinking of trying with a fine nib, maybe I'l write to Santa Claus with my new pen! :-)
From the placement of the finger over the order now to the placement of the pen in the hand an all round most professional and timely service everything one has read in the reviews online can be taken as true. A real rarity in this day and age. I will be procuring more of these as time goes by for gifts and suchlike,Many many thanks indeed to the team at P.J.Ford for making a fabulous writing instrument that totally outshines the many so called high end purveyors.
I just purchased the amber version of Mr Pen's Italix Partners. The pen is a work of art and I love the deep tan color. This is probably one of the smoothest pens I have every experienced. The fact that Mr Pen tests the pen and smooths the nib for you is a definite plus. Another is the price, well below comparable models from other manufacturers. The wide range choice of nib available is another great plus. Thank you Mr Pen.
Why is it that so many fountain pen manufacturers don't supply broad nibs? There are some mighty fine pens out there, with some mighty price tags, but it appears that everyone wants a fine line. Well go get yourself a fibre tip.
Having almost given up my search, I happened upon Mr Pen (on line) and there was exactly what I was looking for, but suspiciously inexpensive. So I ordered, and received by return of post my Parson's Essential.
Broad stub cursive, is the complex discription of the nib, but to me it's Italic, and writes and draws (I'm a designer) like a dream. Thankyou.
Tip....Use brown ink it looks cool and retro!
This is my second order of the churchman's perscriptor. Of all of my fountain pens, I carry and use my churchman's perscriptor the most. It is so smooth, and easy to use. IT is the pen among pens. I did a side by side with my new Pelkan M800 tortoise, and the perscriptor is as smooth and enjoyable to use for a fraction of the price. The nib is the smoothest on the market. I have both the Med 'non' italic nib and the broad italic nib. They both are excellent. I cannot find one bad thing to say about them. You'll be satisfied with one of your own!
If you need someone who can engrave or fix a pen just like you want it, plus same day dispatch, plus fast and secure shipping plus the best ever support, then MrPen is what you are looking for. Having so far 5 pens and one of them needed a check, the support was excellent and really fast! Totally recommended!!!
I phoned and spoke to Peter Ford who seems to answer the phone very promptly. It is nice to get talking to the boss and to a very nice pen enthusiast with all his experience waiting to be shared to whoever listens. It is obvious he is enthusiastic about his products. It is a joy to talk to someone who actually knows the game and doesn't just want to just move onto the next customer. I ordered this pen and it arrived overseas the following morning, very impressed, just like he said it would. More still the pen lived up to everything he told me it would and the engraving is nice and discreet. I have since ordered another and again it arrived promptly as did a relatives after my recommendation to them. Mind you they used to favour Mont Bs - but not now! We are very pleased with the products and especialy Peters caring customer attitude. Many thanks and good luck from Ireland!
This is a really good pen for those serious about handwriting; reasonably priced it performs much better than my very expensive Mont Blanc - it also has that solid feel to inspire writing confidence. What I really like is the terrific ink flow and the fact that the nib does not skip or cut into the writing surface when dragged sideways. This makes it ideal for me as an artist too, the pen is a great tool for drawing. Treat yourself and get one. You won't be disappointed.
