Staff were friendly but when I came to sign contract the price I had agreed differed to paperwork. This was amended on the day which I signed, I was then called a week later saying I had not signed contract so had to go back into branch again and sign and as previously amount was different so I had to return an hour later to sign correct contract. Also my sister referred me and she still hasn't received her £100 chq. I hav chased this up several times and been told it is on route but nothing as yet.
Expensive operation but well worth the money for me so far. Makes so much difference to my working and home life as no longer shackled with spectacles any longer. Extremely nice, patient staff at the Edinburgh practice
I was originally going to have lens replacement surgery but the consultant said she could not guarantee that I would not suffer from halos at night especially when driving. I have to drive at high speed often at night so good night time vision is essential.
However she did point out that a new procedure was available and it would give me great vision beyond a meter and enhanced night vision.
This is exactly what has happened.
The surgeon told me that after the surgery it would be painful and awful but by the next morning I would have good vision which would settle over the next month or so. Right again!
Over the following 3 months I was checked several times and with another check up due after 5 months it shows they are willing to keep up the aftercare until everything is OK
Best thing I've done in years.
The operation seemed straight forward but I still have one eye that is particularly dry and I get headaches behind it.....they could not book the next appointment for me for October as the diary did not go that far ahead. When I dropped by the office to collect some eye drops as I still need these it was shut on a Wednesday so I had a wasted journey and they don't like posting out the eye drops. I then went the following week in to the office and I could not get an appointment until November, I also found out that they are changing the opening days again!!! My eye sight after 6 months has deteriorated and the optician back in July said I may need another operation on the one eye.... :0(
I highly recommended optical express for laser eye surgery as the service was fantastic and aftercare was just as good. Staff were friendly and helpful and looked after me through the whole process. I wish I had got it done years ago as I feel it had been worth it overall.
I had my eye surgery back in February and have had near perfect vision ever since.
After over 10 years of wearing glasses I decided to give contact lenses a shot. I loved the freedom they gave me but found them awkward to put in and uncomfortable when doing sports so I went for a consultation in Glasgow Optical Express for eye surgery.
The advice I was given in the store put to rest any worries I had about the procedure and the after care so I decided to go for it.
On the day of the surgery I was in and out within an hour, then spent the rest of the day recovering. Although it was painful and uncomfortable at first, the medication provided helped and by the next morning I was pain free and had almost perfect vision.
I experienced a few days of slightly blurry vision, especially when looking at bright lights but this soon receded.
All in all a great experience, well recommended!
The one thing I really enjoy is drawing back my curtains in the morning and being able to greet the day clearly.
And on my recent holiday to Hong Kong where I've never climbed so many flights of steps I felt secure because I could see where to put my feet. I even had the courage to visit Beijing and climb/walk the Great Wall.
2 years ago, before I had the procedure, when I visited the The Giant;s Causeway I had to be 'rescued' after getting myself marooned on a rock because I couldn't see where to step.
My experience at Optical Express was absolutely amazing. I was so nervous and worried, but they explained everything to me in detail and were so friendly and approachable. After the surgery I had worries and concerns, but these were soon rectified after speaking to their qualified staff.
Apart from the shops closing around me at the time still managed to get consultations and then get booked into Harley Street. Experience was swift, efficient and filled me with confidence when tests on the various machines had to be done again and again just to ensure its right. Consultant was great and brilliant at explaining everything and advising accordingly. First 5 hours are difficult and very uncomfortable but after a couple of sleep spells my eyes felt a great deal better.
Aftercare was great despite having to travel to my then nearest store in Shepherds Bush. They have been great and again really efficient, slight swelling in one eye meant a couple of extra appointments to make sure but it just added to the reassurance that they cared and were making sure everything was OK. No problems since and even when I had something aggrevate my eye 6 months later( nothing to do with the surgery just swollen and puffiness) they saw me within 35 minutes of phoning and sorted the eye straight away with some wash...
Sight has been brilliant since and would recommend it and them to anyone.
It's a life changing experience. Will recommend it to anyone.
My initial experience was very good. Had amazing vision in my right eye and my left eye was only ok, but my combined vision was good. My left eye never got any better or worse but my right eye started to deteriorate after about 4 months. I have had to go back to optical express for them to monitor my vision, monthly for 3 months and they want me to come back another time in another month to see if I need further corrective surgery. In my opinion I should be wearing glasses again and the time it is taking them to accept this is ridiculous. Having the freedom of not wearing glasses is great but I don't believe I should be waiting 5 months for them to do anything about sorting my vision when it is clearly getting worse month on month.
The optician, that did both my pre & post op care, was both personable and professional so I always felt that I was in safe hands. Also, due to location and work commitments I was unable to attend week day appointments (that were the preference) & Optical Express always worked round this to accommodate me. The day of the operation was calm & organised and the actual operation was painless and over in a few minutes. I had my treatment, on one eye (my other is close to 20-20 vision) nearly 2 years ago and wish now I had done this a long time ago ... My distance vision is now way better than I can ever recall wearing glasses. Can't recommend it enough.
been wearing glasses since I was four years old. all that wiping the rain off, playing football, cricket. Now as I reached retirement The only glasses I need are sunglasses.
Well pleased with op and the people involved
was very sceptical about the pprocedure but it was a breeze. a few problems after with infections but was seen and treated quickly . Having problems driving at night because of glare but only from headlights and white colour street lights oddly . im told this is because I stopped using the drops so im vack to using at least 6 times aday .hHopefully this will improve things.
I had a very pleasant and painless experience with Optical Express.
I had implanted lenses and it is great not having to rely on glasses.
(Kept losing them)
I would not hesitate to recommend Optical Express.
In fact I did and my daughter-in-law opted for the same treatment.
She is happy too !!!!
I had worn glasses since the age of 5 and contact lenses since the age of 16, both of which were fine and I had no problems with them. But when I decided to apply for the Police, I quickly found out my eyesight wasn't good enough. If it wasn't for that, I dont think I would have ever thought about laser eye surgery. But I am so glad I did, as it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Optical express were brilliant, from the consultations right through to the aftercare. I was so nervous for the operation, as the procedure sounds horrendous. I felt no pain during the operation at all, it was just very strange being able to see somebody working on your eyes but not being able to feel it, so it is definitely best to zone out! The operation took a couple of minutes per eye, and the results were almost instant. I went home and lay down in a dark room. When the numbness wore off, it was painful and it felt like somebody cutting onions right beside you. That lasted for an hour or two but in the grand scheme of things, its a small price to pay for 20/20 vision! The rest of that day I stayed in a pitch black room but I was using my phone, laptop etc that night - the results really are that quick! My checkup the next day and my checkups after that were all great, the staff were very helpful! I had slightly swollen eyes for about a week after and small blood bruises for around a month after, but everyone's healing time is different. I had a -4.5 and -6.5 prescription with astigmatism in one eye, and now I have 20/20 vision. It is definitely the best decision I could have made to get laser eye surgery done, and I am glad I did it with optical express as they are very flexible and help you in any way they can!
First, the good bits - better than 20:20 sight now and couldn't be happier with the overall result.
Where it goes wrong is the customer service doesn't feel quite as polished as the sales side. For example, sending me a very large amount of information about the procedure a week or so before and expecting me to both read and digest all of if without a summary page? Not great. Also the actual procedure feels a bit conveyor belt-ish with a lot of people being seen in a short space of time; either you can be done on time first thing (and write off the rest of the day) or later in the day and be waiting for a long time.
That said, the aftercare is great, they're really keen to see you often to make sure that it's worked properly and you are healing well, fairly generous with the healing drops etc. And the people you deal with are really friendly and a number have had this done themselves which really helps!
Would definitely do it again, but have a consultation and then wait for them to send you all the offers - I got £1500 (about 40%) by waiting for the right voucher.
(PS: Your name must be at least 4 characters. But it's not...?)
I was very happy with the service provided, from the first consultation throught to the operations and subsequent aftercare. The improvement in my eyesight was dramatic immediately after the first operation and has been excellent ever since.
The consultations prior to the surgery were good although very pushy, however from the moment i had signed up and the direct debits arranged it was quite different. Appointments weren't properly booked and i would turn up and no one expected me, i had to chase to get seen for follow up. In hindsight i would've possibly taken more notice of all the reviews, which stated most of what i found in terms of customer service, and paid more to go with a different company with a better reputation.
I am happy with my eyesight and the service given throughout the course of my operation. I am now 11 months post-op and despite longer than expected healing time, everything was handled professionally.
This has been so fantastic, I love not having to put my glasses on or mess around with contacts. I did have an issue with dry eyes that lasted for a lot longer than most people (months), but they have been great about helping solve this issue. Everyone is going to react differently. But overall, I would highly recommend this as now I can see better than ever!
As I had no response to my email to Customer Services dated 10 October I thought I would air my thoughts here......
I received laser eye surgery at Cardiff on 1 June this year. The procedure, carried out by Luka, was a great success and the staff at Cheltenham, Bristol and Cardiff have all been extremely pleasant and accommodating where possible.
My initial assessment at Cheltenham took nearly three hours due to too many patients and not enough staff. Unrealistic targets?
My surgery was booked at Bristol for Friday 31 May. The technology at Bristol was more modern than the system at Cheltenham so they were unable to obtain a reading from my eyes. Four hours later they decided that they needed to put in some drops and therefore surgery could not take place until the following day - at Cardiff. It was never made clear to me why the machine would not work for me - I was just advised that my pupil would not react correctly. I found this day very stressful and was obviously upset that I could not have the procedure as planned.
Cardiff was great. All went according to plan.
However as Cheltenham did not open on a Sunday I then had to go back to Bristol for my checkup. My one month was carried out at Cheltenham, on a Saturday, and all was grand (just dry eye which is fine).
I then struggled to get an appointment at Cheltenham so decided to attend an appointment at Belfast. The optometrist was quite fascinated by my left eye and was surprised that I did not have more headaches. He explained that the machine does not work due to my stigmatism and it is likely that I had a slightly lazy eye when I was younger. He therefore suggested that I attend a further appointment in one month to check all was still ok. I was a little anxious at this but he told me not to worry.
I then called the main telephone line and was told that Cheltenham no longer carried out Saturday appointments! How ridiculous. Surely Optical Express must realise that the majority of patients work Monday to Friday and therefore would struggle to attend appointments during the week. I therefore took a morning off work and went to Optical Express on Tuesday 8 October for a 1050 appointment. They were surprised to see me as they only offer appointments on a Friday! After checking it appears that my appointment was booked in at Chelmsford! Apparently this is not the first time this has happened.
I am extremely dissappointed. The above instances of waiting 3 hours and then 4 hours did not really bother me as the staff were so good and I knew they were doing their best but the fact that I took a half day off work and drove to Cheltenham especially (20 mile round trip) for this appointment was the icing on the cake.
I have now booked an appointment in Belfast - as I will certainly not be taking any more time off to attend the Cheltenham branch.
I had recommended Optical Express Cheltenham to colleauges and family however I have now withdrawn this recommendation as Optical Express are obviously not prepared to provide this branch with up to date equipment and continue to lessen their hours to make it inconvenient for any future patients. Such a pity as the staff are extremely pleasant and helpful!
CUSTOMER SERVICE NEEDS IMPROVEMENT: Found Optical Express to be quite hard sell wanting a £500 deposit and make a decision there and then. Didn't like the fact that I had to go through a call centre to ask questions pre and post operation as the telephone number originally given to me was NEVER answered even though I tried 6 times, this doesn't inspire much confidence. Also on a few occasions I was told someone would contact me but no-one did so I had to chase them. Feels like its all about money and a bit like being on a conveyor belt.
BE AWARE OF PRICE EXPLOITATION: I was unaware that the original prices given to me were negotiable and later found that several people I spoke with were able to get the procedure done more than £1000 cheaper. I had to pay £4700 for my lens replacement but a friend who was originally quoted £4500 was able to bring the price down to £3500. Why do you do this Optical Express, it's a very unfair and exploitive policy.
AFTER CARE: Had my surgery in February 2013 and since the surgery I have had problems with blurred and night vision problems. I was told four weeks ago that I have a build-up on my lenses that requires some laser treatment and that someone would contact me for with an appointment at Harley St - so far I am still waiting for the appointment. On the plus side the procedure was carried out painlessly and efficiently without any problems.

I 'got my eyes lasered' a year ago and my only regret is that i didn't go and see a few other suppliers. The procedure was fine, the surgeons and opticians were the best, but i found the attitude of the people in the actual store pretty poor. Not nasty or really rude, just a bit apathetic and lacking warmth. Otherwise I recommend the experience, wish i had done it sooner.

I can honestly say that laser eye surgery has changed my life! Being able to wake up in the morning and not reach for my classes is just perfect. I teach so being able to see right across the classroom without glasses or lenses is just amazing! It's the small things that matter..... Being able to read if you are lifting the shampoo or the conditioner when you are in the shower! Would recommend to anyone, a great service too!
I gave four stars as the whole procedure was incredible. I would recommend it to anyone. My eyesight is now better than 20/20, the procedure was not painful at all just a bit weird that you could see all that was going on, I was very conscious of that but some people don't really notice. It was uncomfortable afterwards for a few hours, which was to be expected! Nothing unbearable, took some pain killers before and a sleep afterwards and job done! On the day everyone there was so lovely especially as I was really nervous, the surgeon was so professional and answered all my questions.
Now the reason why this whole experience didn't get five stars was due to the poor admin of Optical Express!! There was drama booking my 24 hour after appointment as I had surgery on a saturday and they were only open for a few hours sunday! The week after appointment I had to be double booked in (which took a call to the head office) and also had issues booking my month post op appointment, as I work during the week! Nearly two months later, my appointment is sorted. Not much flexibility on the aftercare side of it.
I ordered glasses and contact lenses from the store in westfields. The glasses that I got were twice as thick as my current pair, this was despite a very slight increase in prescription. I complained and they told me they would remake them with "knife edge and rounding" and that they should have done that the first time round. I was told that it would take one week for them to be remade. After two weeks I called to chase them up, two hours later they called me back, told me the glasses were in and that I shouldn't expect much. They assured me that the contact lenses were there too and made an appointment for the next day. I went the following day, waited 20 minutes beyond my appointment time in the waiting room, when I was called in I was rudely told that they had thrown out the contact lenses. I was then handed a pair of glasses that looked exactly the same as the pair the claim were remade.
I complained to customer service and requested a refund - after several emails I they sent me this.
Thank you for your response.
We do require you to attend the store with your spectacles if you wish to have a refund. Your contact lenses have been reordered and we do apologise for the inconvenience caused. When you go into the store to hand in your spectacles please ask for Smita the general manager as she knows about the full situation and is happy to resolve this matter for you.
I went and handed in the glasses and was given a receipt for them. They told me that I would be refunded with a cheque within 28 working days. I asked them if it could be quicker as I live abroad most of the year. they sent this
Thank you for your email.
I can certainly mark your cheque as urgent but our process can take up to 28 working days. I intend to get the cheque sent out to you as urgently as possible.
Today I got the following email from them
I have discussed the below with Smita and also the regional manager , Tom who have advised a refund has not been agreed as there is no fault with your spectacles. The regional manager Tom has advised for you to go back along to store and to discuss further with Smita.
If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.
I have paid two weeks gross wage and have no lenses or glasses, this is the worst service ever, I will never use this company again and I don't recommend them to anyone

Having arranged an appointment for Monday the 26th at the friargate Preston branch at 10.30 I was informed upon arrival that there was to be a delay of some 15mins before I would be seen . I explained that Bank holidays are precious particularly when you have two small children you want to spend time with, but was still prepared to wait . After waiting this time I was again told that there was to be a further delay ( no reason given) and that it would be at least 11.15am before I would be seen. To me this is unacceptable especially as I was making a round trip of 50 miles at considerable expense . Do optical express expect you to wait almost an hour on a Bank Holiday Monday without any reasons given ? I walked out and refused another appointment and will speak to Ultralase tomorrow. If I had turned up almost an hour late I can imagine it would have been "sorry" you have missed your appointment.
It dose not hurt . I did not like the persieger but i would do it again if i had to to gain my sight back . i am pleased with my long vision . not so pleased with my short vision as i still have trouble in reading some times . but if your only have trouble with your long vision then get them lasered . if you want to read small print get inplants. use optical express . and dont go abroad if you have any problems you got to get there again . optical express have good after care, so it give you peice of mind if in the unlikely event that you have any problems.
Don,t want to get to caught up with my sight is,nt as good as it was because it has only been two months since i had both lenes replaced. How ever the main reason i had the surgery was to be able to read without glasses and that has been achieved with bells on. The down side unfortunately is the ghosting and the halos around lights especially at night and when driving its particularly bad. But i was warned that it could take between three to six months for my eyes to settle down so will just have to be patient....Friends and family have asked me would i do it again. To not have to wear reading glasses yes i would absolutely.

I have been left with large black/white dots/spots in my vision constantly. They float around as I move my eyes and as I can not see through them they effect what I can see. This affects my sight always. They drift over peoples faces as I am talking to them.
I am not happy with the results and would never recommend this to a friend. I complained to my optician and was told that they were floaters and that they will get worse as I get older. This obstruction makes my eyes tired and I find it hard to read, watch TV or concentrate in meeting. I find myself squinting a lot and this gives me headaches. I am in the process of making a formal complaint.

If you pay the deposit then change our mind in the agreed timeframe you will have to wait 28 working days for you deposit to be returned - not good - think carefully before your part with your money. I cancelled my treatment in the agreed time zone on the 3rd July and was told today I will not get my deposit back until 12th August. This is a terrible service and I have now lost faith in this company and will not be dealing with them in the future. They do not tell you this when they take your deposit and I think they should, why do they need to keep my money for nearly six weeks.

I booked an appointment for an eye test as I was suspecting that I needed glasses. On the day it turned out that I was the last appointment for the optician who, so it felt, just wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible. When I asked her questions about the results of the different automated tests she performed, she said in a dismissive and patronising tone that I didn't need that information because she was the one who needed to know that.
Then, when trying to determine my prescription, I wasn't even satisfied yet with what I could see with the trial lenses as the letters on the board in front of me were still somewhat blurred, but she just declared that she now knew what I needed and I was done and could go to the reception and pay. At this point I started to feel very annoyed. I don't wear glasses and was not familiar with the whole process and I just felt that staff were not accommodating at all.
At the reception desk they straight away asked for my money and told me to choose a frame. I mean, no one actually pointed out the frames or offered any assistance or explained any deals. Frankly, I got the impression that no one actually cared, but they were just after my money. Even more so, when the man at the reception desk was visibly disappointed (no exaggeration!) when I presented a voucher for a free eye test and requested a printout of my prescription to take home which he was reluctant to issue.
Being suspicious about the whole thing, I wanted a second opinion before investing in glasses and contact lenses and what not, so I went to Specsavers (also for a free eye test!) who were incredibly friendly, patient and thorough, and the result of the second examination was a completely different prescription!!! (I am convinced that the second examination is the one to trust, as I could actually see the board in front of me perfectly with the trial glasses.) It seems that in Optical Express the optician simply did not test properly for the axis and the sphere!
One thing is sure, I will never ever even go anywhere near this horrible, unfriendly and sloppy bunch again! Utterly disappointed...

I went along to the consultation and OE were very reassuring and professional. I pretty much made the decision there and then as I was so impressed with their advice.
The procedure booking was quick and easy. I showed up on the day and although the whole waiting time took about 1.5 hours or so (not really sure why you have to wait so long) the procedure itself was done in less than 10 mins.
The surgeon I had was a little 'abrupt' and 'hostile' sounding at time but I think this was mostly due to the way he spoke. They were a little too 'process them in and out quick' on the day, particularly given that this is a very scary procedure.
Anyway after the initial discomfort wore off and after a couple of weeks of dryness in my eyes my eyesight is great (and continues to get even better).
Pros - Great customer service up front. Quick (though thoroughly freaky) procedure. Great results.
Cons - No guarantees it will last. You need to be quite strong willed as they don't spend a lot of time putting you at ease. A friend of mine came out in quite extreme shock and went back the next day to complain. Also it costs a fortune. Ignore ANY ads you see talking about laser surgery deals. It is likely to be 2,3 or 4 grand!

Everyone who dealt with me was friendly and gave me a feeling of confidence. The examinations were thorough and repeated several times by different people on subsequent visits. The results were consistent and explained to me, as was the prognosis.
On the day, I did feel a little as though I was on a conveyor belt as there would be half a dozen of you sitting around waiting to be called in for your preparation. But in a funny sort of way this actually made me feel more comfortable and eased my feelings of apprehension because it was apparent that, what to me was a one off, somewhat scary experience, to them was just routine and so no big deal.
That said, and though the operation on my first eye was a walk in the park, the second was not so much fun. This was because there was no anaesthetist available for the second visit. The surgeon assured everyone that this would not be an issue as he could administer the anaesthetic, but not the sedative. This was not such a walk in the park as watching the syringe approaching your eye knowing that the needle was about to enter your eyeball was pretty horrific. Every muscle in my body was tense and my blood pressure must have rocketed. Speaking with several of the others afterwards, it was generally agreed that had that been the first eye we may not have come back for the second.
However, from a results point of view it has made no difference and I am happy with the outcome, although I believe I will need a bit of a tweek with laser treatment to optimise the benefits.
It has to be said that you do need to be patient to allow your eyes time to adjust to their new found strength. The poor brain is working overtime to get to grips with the new lenses and this can be uncomfortable in the form of watering and tired eyes and even some eye strain if you don't rest them when you feel the need. It took a full three months for me to feel generally comfortable but I suppose that is quite person specific and also down to your age to some extent.
All in all I have not regretted my decision to proceed with IOL replacement surgery for a single moment and all things being equal, look forward to at least twenty five years of not having to wear glasses. This also actually justifies the cost, given the number of pairs of glasses I would have needed between now and then.
