I was treated at the Maidstone clinic in June 2013 and had the Lasik Wavefront surgery.
I had consultations with different companies but decided to go with Optimax as I felt they were the least pushy - all the staff were friendly, helpful and understanding.
I had gone back and forth with the idea of having the surgery for months but eventually decided to do it. Luckily, everything went well and I am so happy I did it - definitely worth the money.
The worst part was reading the disclaimer form with all of the eventualities of the surgery going wrong but you've got to remember these are in a tiny per cent of cases.
The actual surgery itself was actually pain free. I thought people just said that but it didn't hurt at all - at times it was a little uncomfortable but no actual pain.
My eyes were very watery after the surgery but after a good nights rest, I woke up being able to see without glasses for the first time - an amazing feeling.
During the first week, I did experience a glare from lights at night, but luckily that has gone down quite a lot now and I only get a slight glare when driving at night.
The only thing I found annoying at Optimax was the waiting times - my actual surgery was delayed by about 1 and a half hours.
Nearly 6 months on, I am very happy with the results - I have better than 20/20 vision and wish I'd have done it sooner.
I wouldn't recommend optimax as an option for Lasek. I wish that I had done more research because I did overpay because I had opted for Lasik and at the last moment they switched me to Lasek. I ended up paying a Lasik price for Lasek, which is really disappointing.
The recovery time is proving to be months not weeks, which was not adequately explained to me. The aftercare appointments are at consistently inconvenient times - so enjoy taking off work every 3 weeks in order to make the appt.
These are factory businesses and in hindsight, I would have looked around for another provider.
I would recommend this surgery and in particular the professional approach of Optimax. I felt they took care of me the whole way and kept me informed about the procedure I was undertaking. I can quite simply say that this is the best thing I have ever done and wish I had done it earlier, it has changed my life forever.
The whole process was done with professionalism and attention to detail. Just what you want when you are entrusting your eyesight to someone! The actual surgery was a bit scary, but with all the prep beforehand I was certain that they knew what they were doing. I would certainly recommend Optimax to anyone wanting the the surgery.
I decided to have laser eye 3 weeks before my wedding. Everyone thought I was mad but after wearing contacts for nearly 20 years I couldn't get a comfortable fit and I just didn't want to walk down the aisle in glasses. From the consultation to the final follow up, it was smooth and easy. I had 20/20 vision the next day. Truly amazing.
For years I had always said I would never have Laser Eye Surgery but it got to a stage where I couldn't function, glasses on, glasses off, contacts in, contacts out, contacts in and glasses on!! My bag was full of glass cases. So I took the plunge, went to a competitor first but wasn't impressed, it was clear they just wanted my money. Optimax were different, they cared about you. Had it done within weeks of my first appointment, nervous on the day but also excited. I did have a complication but I was about the second one that year and it was November! So I did have a 3 hour wait during the procedure before they could complete it but the staff were fabulous. The procedure is unpleasant, I would be telling lies if I said otherwise, however from start to finish (without the complication I had is about 20/30 minutes. The result was immediate, bit fuzzy to start with but instantly I knew I could see a whole lot better. The pain was more or less gone within 4 hours. I could read the time on my clock that was on the other side of the living room where as before I could only tell you there was a clock there because I had put it there!! Next morning I was at driving standards and now have 20/20 vision. Do need glasses for close up but I knew that would be my case, age related!! Just wished I had had it done when I was younger. Have found my eyes are a little delicate but I think that is a small price to pay for being able to see as I can now.
I thought long & hard about having laser treatment...after all, you only have one pair of eyes. I researched a couple of companies & decided on Optimax. The fact that they were only a couple of miles down the road helped but I would have travelled further for the best treatment. From the receptionist to the surgeon, all the staff were professional and informative, answering even the smallest of questions. The surgery itself was slightly uncomfortable but painless. The after care was excellent with regular check ups. I even contacted them a year later & requested a general MOT which they were happy to do. Nearly two years down the line I am delighted with the treatment & my vision & would recommend Optimax to anybody
My consultation was detailed and informed me of everything, they quickly got me booked in staff were very helpful. Explained to me the difference between the two treatments an the recovery periods. Everything was just perfect an before I knew it I was having laser treatment. Iv heard from friends who have visited other places an wernt to happy with the information on treatment and after treatment. Once the surgery was complete I had to stay indoors for a few days it was a bit painfull the next couple of days. But after a week I was fully recovered and I could see clearly again it was amazing. The after treatment was regular to see how my eyes are improving and they showed me how my eyes have improved better then 20/20 vision. 10/10
I had this done two years ago and it was the best thing I have ever done. A few weeks after the surgery I developed a problem. I attended my local clinic who determined that I had scratched my eye in my sleep and did not charge for the exam or treatment. I was able to see the scratch for myself on the screen. I have since recommended to a patient who was given my number. As chance would have it I am about to ring the local clinic to book my husband in for an assessment.
From day one I was treated with care and felt fully satisfied with the service thar was going to happen. All questions were answered and procedures explained clearly and quickly, nothing was a problem. The aftercare was super and I was given different drops that I needed, two years on ,y eye sight is as good as it was when I was a child! Thank you Optimax.
I had surgery on my right eye 2 years ago now, and wish I had done it sooner as the results have been brilliant. Optimax (Croydon) were first class and the whole process was handled professionally, with excellent service, throughout. Surgery was painless and aftercare was superb as well - everything went as advised. Taking into consideration the money saved through not having to buy glasses, the treatment will pay for itself. Would thoroughly recommend Optimax for an honest and clear analysis of what treatment (or indeed if any treatment) is suitable for you.
Suffered quite a bit of pain afterwards and eyes took a while to adjust, but well worth it at the end. So glad I did it, truly recommend Optimax as they are very different then any other Eye Correction companies.
I decided to look into laser surgery after a number of my family had had it done over the last 10 years or so. Having contacted a few companies Optimax were the most helpful (and didn't spend the following weeks spamming me hourly by text, phone and email with pressure selling and discounts unlike Optical Express).
So let's start with areas Optimax could improve.... Initial eye test done be reception staff is a little unnerving, the amount of medication needed afterwards was never mentioned until 30 mins before the surgery, every time I'm at their office they are running out of Refresh drops and limit the amount you can purchase.
Now, the above aside they are friendly and professional and other than the gallons of eye drops needed they were very up front and honest about the experience I was to face.... Including the pain that I was likely to experience from having LasEk.
Another point I liked was a report they give you which uses data from patients of similar age and prescription...it gives results from patients and even contact details... I was able to see how many would recommend, how many thought it was worth having, how many would advise against (thankfully none out of 700 samples).
So, my actual experience.... On the day if surgery you turn up a few hours before you'll be lasered.... I was shown the medication I would need and filled out the t's and c's. There is also a questionnaire which aims to ensure all risks etc have been explained and understood.
I met the surgeon who answered the last few questions I had. An hour later I was on the table. The procedure, whilst mildly uncomfortable, was completely pain free and over in 20 minutes. You are quickly ushered out into a 'recovery room', basically a small dark room with a comfy chair.... 10 minutes later and you're free to go.
By the time I was driven home (30 mins) I was in utter agony and couldn't open my eyes. I took the strong pain killers which had been provided and peeled my eyes open to get some numbing drops in. If I'm honest they didn't help other than to make me sleepy - not a bad thing. By the next morning the pain had completely gone and I've had no issues since. I'm using refresh drops once an hour and gel at night just to stop the eyes drying out.
My vision is better than 20:20 in both eyes and although it wasn't great at night it is fast improving.
Ultimately no surgery is risk free but I had enough information to be able to make an informed decision, at no point did I feel under any pressure to go ahead. This is elective surgery, if you couldn't live with the risks don't have it done.... My experience, and that of my family is that it is well worth while.
This was the best decision I ever made. I had monovision so can see ta distance and still read at 46 years. I can now get up in the night with the kids and don't have to put on my glasses to see where I'm going. Swimming is great, no need for contacts (couldn't see to get in the pool without them) or for goggles to stop the water getting into my eyes. No sweaty nose/face in the hot weather. After 2 years, I've finally forgotten how it was to wear glasses, but still look at people with glasses and want to tell everyone to get it done. Optimax where great, check ups after for about a year made me feel confident that all was well. Just had my first external eye exam since surgery and no changes and eyes all healthy, great result.
The first thing i thought was omg they're going to cut my eyes open, but when it was all explained i felt more comfortable. There was no pain just a little discomfort. The whole process took minutes. Instant clearer vision and perfect days after healing. I would recommend this to anyone. No more white lines in the sun. 2 years since the operation and still as good. If anyone is worried about the cost, it's worth it, just spread the payments. Good luck
The nurses and receptionists I had contact with at the Newcastle branch were all very friendly and professional and conducted the business and routine eye checks with a practiced hand.
The Optician I saw was friendly and approachable and again did his job thoroughly and professionally. Looking back I feel at this stage I could have been more informed about the actual procedure itself as I knew very little of what would happen. During the surgery I was quite alarmed on 2 occasions when my vision went black and at the same time I was asked to look at a light. If I can't see anything - how can I look at a light?!? If I had known this would happen prior to the surgery It would've probably made me way less stressed about the whole thing.
I had very little contact with the surgeon but he has seemed to have done his job very well. My vision is excellent during the day, a little star-bursty at night but still better than it was before. I'm continuing to use refresh drops first thing in the morning for dryness.
Would definitely recommend Optimax to a friend, but would also tell them to ask for a thorough brief of the surgery itself.
love the vision i have. but i have had alot of trouble with dry eyes, even though i use the drops, and this i think is giving me headaches. would love to not have to wear reading glasses too. but stil glad i had it done
From beginning to end I was made to feel, safe, confident, welcome and I have no regrets. Feel much more confident now I don't need to wear glasses anymore.
after 2 years from my eyes surgery I am so happy and I only regret that I didn't do it earlier! I had thick glasses for 27 years and now I am free! I would recommend it to anyone! no pain and success guarantee! THANKS
Before I had my eyes lasered I had been wearing glasses since the age of 4, I had very bad vision and couldnt see anything before i put my glasses on in the morning now being able to wake up and see every morning is a miracle. I wont lie and say it was a painfree procedure the day I had it done I did wonder why I had decided to do it but the rate in which the pain subsided and my eyes healed was amazing and after waking up the next day the pain had gone my eyes just felt a little gritty and puffy. It took a few more days untill I could do a lot as my eyes got watery and very tired but I feel this was a small price to pay for the benefits i've had of being able to see clearly ever since.
I was very nervous before the procedure and the staff at optimax where brilliant and really put me at ease and made me feel confortable, I would definately recommend them to anyone!
The information and treatment I received was all great, with fantastic results. the only problem I had was when I turned up for my treatment they told me it had been re-scheduled and obviously no one had bothered to let me know!
From start to finish, I have been thoroughly impressed with the service at Optimax. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and weren't pushy during the initial consultation. The operation itself was over within minutes, you spend longer in the waiting room. I had my surgery done two years ago and have 20/20 vision, with no issues with dry eyes/night vision/etc. Highly recommended - just stay away from Youtube before the Op!
I had my Lasik Intralase Wavefront surgery in May 2013 having had glasses or contacts since a young age - in the end -6.5 on both eyes. Luckily i didnt have astigmatism or any other incorrections.
My consultation was on the day prior to the surgery and I got a good feeling about the professionalism of the place (London Finchley Road). At times I felt it was a "patient in patient out procedure" but that was fine ... that is what they do.
The next day, armed with sun glasses, i went there. After a little wait the time has come and the preperations started. They talked me through the time after the procedure and I met the surgeon for a final check. Then on the table. I do have to say that the experience is not pleasant at all (but who would think so, it is a surgery). I was quite worried to do something wrong and influence the result but I couldnt really, all was done well. And there was no pain. The worst I can remember was the smell ... it smelled like I would burn my hair at the bbq :) . After the lasering I could already see better than before although all was blurry. They took me into a darkened room for 10 Minutes. Then it was time to go home. On the way the anesthethic drops started to wear off and the pain (better: burning) started. I took a paracetamol (and all the drops as recommended of course) and went to sleep - only waking up for the drops.
And then the next morning ... boy was i excited. And I can say WOW!!! the trees and everything else was so clear, right after waking up!!! Amazing. I went back for the first aftercare appointment and had 20/20 on the left eye. The right one was a bit behind but they waid it would catch up. I was driving that same day with confidence.
If I would find any negative aspect it would be that the eyes are quite bruised for 4-6 weeks ... but hey, I just had my eyes lasered. This is due to the suction ring the put on. The pressure is needed to keep the ring and laser in place.
I kept the schedule of the drops and aftercare appointments. Now, after 3 months, I can say it was the best thing I have ever done. I have no pain, no complications, no halos, no problems at night - nothing. Just awesome sight! And I got a good deal too ... 2for1 (a bit like in Tesco) is good - all in all around 2k for both eyes.
Thanks Optimax, you did well!
Gone are the glasses and contact lenses; the feeling of absolute freedom is amazing.I had Lasik mono vision treatment which was not 100% successful but had further treatment on one eye, ten months later, to correct the problem. I am now delighted with the result.
After about 3 years of research and deliberation. I had my eyes lasered 2 years ago and it's still great. I didn't take any chances and decided to pay for the top level treatment included the lazer cutting to reduce any risk of your night vision being affected. As I could spread the payments at 0% it meant this was achievable. Yes, the surgery is uncomfortable and not something you want to endure very often but you just try and switch off for 15 minutes and then it's over. I could see instantly and by the next day had 20/20 vision. I was warned that due to my age that i would still need reading glasses eventually but it has been delayed and i am just starting to use them occasionally. i chose to have one eye corrected to make reading better; this was no problem for me as I had contact lenses like this before.
I love not having to juggle between glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses any more.
You must do your research and talk to people, it's surprising how many people have had laser eye surgery but I have also met the odd person where it didn't work for them the 1st time!
On the recommendation of mu younger sister, Amy.
Friday 14th July 2011 I signed up for Wavefront lasek
From having the first consultation to having the treatment I waited a week, any longer and I might have backed out.
On the day of having the treatment i arrived with my husband with sun glasses in hand.
To do both eyes took about 3 minutes.
I can see as soon as I left the room but needed my sun glasses even though it was raining.
I had to have the bandage lenses in for a bit longer than some, they checked after 3 days how my eyes where healing, But i was in a lot of pain when they took them out. so I keep them in for another 5 days or so. Second time of removing then, no pain.
I slept for 2 days only waking up to eat and drink.
My husband was great, waking me up to make sure I did the drops.
After about a month I felt confident even to drive, as my left eye was healing slower then the right, which is why I had the problems when they removed bandage lenses first time.
I took 3 days off work, more because of light and having to wear sunglasses inside especially with the office lighting.
When I returned to work i still needed sunglasses inside but only when the sun was right in the window.
Would I do it again. YES
I recommend it to any one, don't wait like I did for 5 years, from when my sister had hers done, to getting my done.
My Twin got her done within 2 weeks of me having mine done.
Sign up and get it done its worth it.
I first enquired about having my eyes done a few years ago but found it a little expensive but then 3 months After having my son optimax called me with an offer I just couldn't refuse. Half the price of my original quote so I jumped at the chance. I had to wait another month before having the procedure due to having my baby. The staff were so friendly and the procedure was so quick and pain free I was amazed and the next day I could see my son for the first time without looking through glasses. Iv never looked back its the best thing I ever did. People think it will be painful but I can honestly say I didn't feel a thing.
I had laser eye surgery around 18 months ago in Southampton. The results have been amazing; better than 20:20 vision in both eyes. No more worries about my glasses breaking, or not being able to see in the rain!
The staff were very competent and professional. There was no hard sell, and I was able to speak to people in my age range and with a similar prescription who had previously had the treatment so as to get the full picture.
No complaints regarding the treatment - it was very quick and painless (slight tingling sensations at the time, and some dry/gritty feelings after). I did suffer from dry eye in one eye for some months afterwards, but I belive this was because that eyelid does not close fully at night.
The only reasons I gave 4, rather than 5, stars is that one of my appointment times was changed without telling me, and I was not provided with enough eye drops to last me from the next day check-up to the following check up. It was easy enough to find alternative drops to buy, but I found this stressful as I didn't want to use the wrong thing! There is a great helpline for advice tho.
I have been wearing glasses from age 10 years so I used to wear contact lenses and glasses I hated all my life so I can say finally when I hear u can have u eyes laser and no need to wear glasses or contact lens I could not believe but when I came to optimax the staff and dr where very helpful. I got very happy and got my eyes laser I am so happy with the results every thing went well and plus they finance offer which is great so u can afford it easily. I have already recommended to many of my friends and my husband is planning to get it done
No malicious intent.
They said in a tiny percentage, they don't get it right. I can't see any better now than before the operation. They are doing their best to try to help, but I don't really want them to try again and have it go even more wrong. It's a bad place to be; 2 grand down and worse eyes than before. Think about it, kids. That 1% is a bad place to be.
Optimax in Leeds were brilliant. Very friendly and proffessional. The treatment was quick and exactly what i expected. After care was explained well. After surgery appointments were prompt and any questions answered. I would definitely recommend them to any of my friends and family.
After having my consultation to find out if my eyes were compatible I booked in for the laser surgery the following weekend, the staff were very friendly and made me feel totally at ease. Although I was at the treatment centre all day having the pre treatment check with the surgeon then having to wait around for my turn which made it a long day the results have been totally worth it. After leaving the centre my eyes were very watery but when I got home I did as instructed and laid down in a dark room for a few hours and had a nap. When I woke up I walked into the living room and instantly noticed a massive difference and as the days pasted and the eyes settled it got better still, I'd highly recommend anyone to have the treatment for the small discomfort the benefits are outstanding I now have 20:20 vision and having the wavefront treatment means I don't even get the halo effect driving at night also the 0% finance deals make it easy to spread the cost 10 out of 10
I couldn't believe the difference, within 4 hours I was sat watching TV and driving the next day (after my checkup!) The staff at the Hove clinic were amazing, really friendly and put me at ease. The procedure itself was pretty much pain free, just some pressure from a machine on your eye, and then it stung for a couple of hours (like I had got soap or something in my eye) and my eyes watered a bit. I went to bed when I got home, slept for about three hours and then, as I said, was watching TV.
I have gone from not being able to get out of bed in the morning without putting my glasses on to just having some over the counter minimum correction (+1) reading glassses for when I'm doing a lot of computer work. Going on holiday is amazing, no worries about swimming, refreshing lenses between daytime and evening, lenses drying out on the plane, the list is endless.
I could not recommend Optimax more. My son-in-law is an optician who works with a Harley Street laser clinic (which I couldn't afford) but he was happy to hear I was going to Optimax and said that if I had been going to a more 'high street' chain of clinics (whose name I won't mention) he would have been very worried!!
Staff in the Glasgow branch were excellent, from the initial consultation to the operation itself and indeed the aftercare.
Very reassuring throughout, and if you have any worries they encourage you to come back to get peace of mind.
One bit of advice, 100% have someone to pick you up afterwards!
