The car was not sold through Pistonheads but it was advertised elsewhere and sold, I did have a few emails from people through Pistonheads asking for info that was in the advert so they obviously hadn't read it properly! Also one man sent me an email asking me the "real" price of the car as he had seen it advertised for half the price, which certainly isn't true it was only advertised at the price shown on Pistonheads or more!!. I didn't receive any phone calls at all, but I would probably use your website again to advertise cars for sale.
couldn’t be happier with the PistonHeads website, all enquiries were seemingly genuine and got the car sold within a week of putting it on the site, having had some 20+ enquiries. When it came to removing the advert, it then took equally as long with the customer service team not returning three phone calls and two emails!!! eventually called the trade line and they sorted it out. all very frustrating and sad to leave a bad taste in the mouth......
Once I had made the decision to sell my car which I have cherished for the last 16 years PistonHeads made the process really easy and reached the right buyers. I found it really easy to initially upload my advert and subsequently edit it. I had quite a lot of interest and the car sold within 2 weeks to someone who will enjoy it as much as I did.
I needed to sell my car - so I offered it for sale at a reasonable price - and sold it within 20 minutes of the ad' going live!! I had it valued by 'we buy any car' so I knew what the bottom line was - I got £60 more so I was very happy (the car was a 1998 model and needed quite a lot of tlc!. If I need to sell another car I know where I will be advertising it!!
didnt sell for 2 months on ebay but lots of time wasters. sold in a week on ur site for a more fair cost too. only comment is allow more photos and make a login and account link on your web page as relying on an email link is lame/poor design. other than that very happy
I had tried to sell my car for nearly 3 weeks, even resorting to the dreaded autotrader. with plenty of tyre-kickers offering to come and 'test drive' my car then offer silly amounts, I was directed to PistonHeads.. Put my advert up and within a week the car had been sold. Fantastic result and will definitely be recommending friends/family selling their cars to use PistonHeads first from now on. Paul..
Unfortunately, not to the PistonHeads advert. I sold privately through an advert in the local paper which also included an internet site and other media. However, through the PistonHeads site I had a few private buyers call, mainly too far away to "pop in". The biggest plus was the number of dealers that called. Their offers, obviously less than the asking price (they have to make a living) varied considerably. Only one was dismissed as "stupid", the majority being consistent, but one was only a few hundred pounds less than the eventual private selling price - this was on a 20k car. Apart from the one mentioned, the dealers were very polite, professional and a pleasure to chat with.
I found this site easy to use and understand . The advert price was very reasonable and the photo upload was a piece of cake. Very well run with advert going live very quickly. It would be nice to have a view counter on the advert so people could see what kind of interest their advert is receiving . Also for the benefit of the site it would be good if when a car was sold the advert remained on the list for a few days with a "SOLD" banner across the pic . This would advertise the success of the site. Overall a great experience and I am happy because I sold my car in a couple of days .
My car was sold in less than 18 hours of appearing on the site. I was very pleased with the quality of the display and the ease of uploading the photographs and text. My advice to private sellers is to describe the car in a conversational style, be honest and don't be tempted to overprice - those free valuations tend to be rather optimistic! So an excellent service at a good price.
Maybe not gone in 60 seconds but gone in less than 60 hours. 1st time I've used Pistonheads for selling a car. Although I did buy it from a garage advertising on here. Could have sold my car umpteen times over, with emails from all over the country. Pistonheads is also 4 times cheaper than Autotrader so it's a bit of a no brainer. Would most definitely use Pistonheads again for both buying and selling
I sold my car at the first attempt via Pistonheads, it was the appropriate place to advertise a performance car which would have been lost in a sea of ordinary vehicles elsewhere. The seller guide was also very useful and allowed me to spot a potential scammer a mile off.
I didn't sell my car through Piston Heads and only one call received. In hindsight I feel this is too specialist a site and gives insufficient exposure. I did also get an email enquiry, which I considered to be a scam. I emailed this to Piston Heads twice for their investigation but have never even received an acknowledgement, let alone a response. I won't use this site again to advertise and will convey my experience to as many of my network as possible.
The layout for the adverts is easy and making the advert is a piece of cake. Also the price is very competitve at nearly a 1/4 of the price of Autotrader for an advert lasting 30 days.
The only reason I can't give it a 5 star rating is due to the time it took to upload pictures. With a 5Mb image limit as well I found most of the pictures I took were too large, the 12 I did select took me over an hour to upload! Compared to Autotrader who have no file size limit I managed to upload the same pictures in 15 minutes. This would be the only thing I would like to see improved, other than that a happy customer!
I have used Pistonheads to try and sale 2 VW Transporters , I have had some good enquiries form the site and a few emails from people trying to scam my bank account details. You have got to be very careful with your details and my police is you only do the deal with the person face to face let them know you are genuine and make sure the money clears before you hand over the keys !!
Advertised on a Friday, sold by the Monday. That kind of says it all really when it comes to the classifieds service on Pistonheads. The whole process of uploading your ad is very straight forward and user friendly; and looks great when it’s gone live. The ability to manage / add or edit all or part of your ad at any time is also very handy. I had quite a few calls within the first day of my car being put up for sale and all were from genuine sounding potential purchasers. No agencies, canvassers or scammers. By the Friday evening I had taken a deposit and waved the car goodbye with cash in my pocket on the Monday. It was the most hassle free car sales experience I have ever had!
As for the rest of the website, the forum can only be described as a collective font of all knowledge combined with a serious dose of humour and the home page is updated daily with all the automotive news you need to know. Its the only website that I visit daily, without fail.
I have been using PH for over 10 years now, and use it as a reference site for anything motoring related; a source of entertainment; a diary filler; and have met so many like minded people who have become friends.
