The whole concept here is clever but very wrong.
They have a community persona, encouraging customers to be part of the 'Qype' experience - what they actually want is free reviews from customers, but this only works if those reviews are positive.
That's because the flip side of their business is to monetise those free reviews, by charging companies for their reviewers business.
This works for them and possibly some businesses, but not for the consumer.
I posted a negative review of 'The Albion Bath Company', whose service and products I found to be both shocking. The review was removed soon after being posted - after the Albion Bath Company complained falsely, that the products were outside warranty and the review was deleted, without informing me. I was able to prove they weren't and the review was reinstated, but had to be rewritten carefully several times - an attempt to put me off I felt.
To businesses who might read this, I avoid anyone displaying the Qype sign if possible.
I was sold a deal with a money back guarantee if certain targets were missed, they were and since then i have sent 7 emails and 10 voicemails with my so-called account manager and they have not replied, except to leave one message answering me back. ONe month i was charged an erroneous £288, another month i was charged 3 times. Last year it took 3 months trying to contact a different account manager before i got to speak to someone else who could help. Absolute rubbish, the premium listing service is worthless, don't waste your time or money
Do NOT buy their business listing or even list your business on Qype. I received a call from their Sales agents and listed my business on Qype. At that time my qype rating was 4 star with a mix bag of both positive and some negative reviews.
I refused to sign for paid membership (after reading everywhere that Qype is useless) and these scammers removed 7 five star reviews from my business listing within 24 hours bringing down my rating from 4 star to 2 star.
So far I have contacted them 4 times - no answer. I am taking this matter to Court as I cannot entertain this sort of defamation.
I tried to leave an accurate (negative) review of a business that had paid to be listed on Qype. The business complained to Qype and without even contacting me, Qype removed my review. Regardless of the fact I had documented paper evidence of the facts to back up my review, Qype would not listen to my argument. There are now several glowing 5 star reviews for the business which I assume are fake, yet Qype seem happy to leave these showing. As a consumer I would not rely on Qype to show an accurate representation in their reviews at all.

I Signed up for this site and my god what a hassle to be removed from their website, firstly no response to any of my emails, then this company removing good reviews from my clients, what a scam who set this company up in the first place. The worst company ever.If you value your business stay clear from qype review site only give you hassle.
I was one of the customers caught in the demise of this outfit. They give Internet shopping a bad name.Use their review site to make your views known. The sooner the whole company goes into liquidation the better.
LIED TO MAKE SALE
NEVER ANSWER CALLS
WILL NOT GIVE COOLING OFF PERIODS
CONMEN SHARP PRACTITIONERS

STOLE MY MONEY AS THEY NEVER GAVE WHAT THEY OFFERED
Qype is a scam!!!
I was a new business and i got a call from a qype employee Sam and she said that Qype will send 10000 visitors to my website or my money back. I signed up for it and i never got any traffic to my website, i then called qype and another employee Harvey told me that the 10000 visitors was to my qype profile alone and not to my website at all!!!!!!!!!!!
When i explained that i was mis sold the product he said i signed a contract and it does not matter what i was told over the phone and i must keep paying qype even though they were not sending anyone to my business as Sam told me in the beginning.
Their sales calls are not recorded so the person that signs you up can tell you anything to sign. Also i never signed the contract. When this fraud of a business called me i was on the train and the 'man' that took my card details sent me the contract and then said ' you do not need to sign it, just send me a reply and i will click the button for you'
I admit i was stupid to believe the lies. Please no business should sign up with this people, they are a fraud, and they will say anything to get you to enter and when you realize that it is a scam, it is too late, you can never get out!!
I will be filling legal claims against them and i hope that no one ever falls into the same scam.
I recently opened a paid business account with Qype for 6 months. I have never experienced such incompetence and jargon in my life - no jokes.
I never want to hear this company name again, they are time wasters. It's ever so easy to sign up, but try leaving and it's a string of problems. Just try phoning them or finding the company contact number, the problems start there. I could go on, but I will keep this short. I can't stand these people because they are not helping you, there just want your cash. They have very good sales staff - say NO and stay well away.
Keep AWAY at all costs! VERY Easy to sign you up for a free business listing, and then some days later harass you non - stop with phone calls, emails and messages to upgrade to so called PREMIUM package. Eventually when you say NO, they still harass you. Also if you do have a free business listing, and wish to close it for whatever reason - YOU MIGHT as well forget it Have been emailing QYPE FEEDBACK SUPPORT for months with no AVAIL. Seems like court action is the next step!

As a business owner who "claimed" their page several years ago, and setup a profile to inform customers of our presence, I am very disappointed with QYPE as they have not updated our address and area, despite my repeated attempts to change them (by logging in, and by emailing them directly).
We only moved about 10 miles away, but of course we now don't appear in any searches for the town we're in. :-(
