I paid for a parcel to be delivered, the sender wrote on the package where to leave it if there was no one in. we were in when the post van called, he did not ring the bell, he did not knock on the door, i know this because we were only f ew feet from the bell and the dogs bark if some one knocks at the door. it is a premium rate telephone number to call them and what chance that they would be any better on a redelivery?
i had to collect the parcel from their understaffed sorting office.
i asked for compensation and the response is "I cannot give compensation as this would be unfair to other customers who have not received such compensation" in other words our service is so bad we cannot afford to pay compensation.
What is the matter with them?I have receaved 5 packages 2-3 days late and one a week late.Their first class seems to take three or five days. They used to be by the following day.THE 24 HOUR service can take 3 days. Next Day.Track and Trace the firms can check on them as can we.They are taken money under false pretences for these services they provide..Tardy service is very mild thing to say. They have become totaly unreliable and if they don't buck their ideas up other carriers will take over.Perhaps that is what they want so their work is not as hard..I had a Hospital letter aweek late and that had to be answered and sorted out..Very Important! i WILL NOT SEND VIA THEM AS THEY ARE TOTALY URELIABLE.It is about time they did job properly in all respects.Including their managers, sorters and post people. To many Cheifs spring to mind and not enough Braves.Christmas is coming and they will have yet more exscuse'. Rubbish service all the way round..Run by IDIOTS!!!! Anyone who want shares in Royal Mail must need their heads testing as a bussiness can not be run as they are at the moment.
i had a Birthday Card sent from a family member and when it arrived their was a big sticker on the back saying that this envelope had been opened and they had sealed it with a sticker from preston depot. i had found out from my family member that a small keep sake card had been put into my birthday card and this was the item missing. just the size of a credit card. perhaps who ever the crook was thought it was a gift card or a credit card. i worked many years ago in a sorting office for royal mail its a disgrace behind the scenes. people who are not qualified sorting out peoples mail. mail falling on the floor just left. and useless managers just walking around and picking constantly on staff and putting them on one job after another. i hope other mail firms will take over and give these crooks some competition. i hope the Royal gets taken off this disgusting company. also ove the years many of my mail items have gone missing and bank statements just ripped open i constantly complain to the sorting office the manager and the staff are as much use as a chocolate teapot. hurry up and go bust.
Being a pretty placid person and only gaining opinion on companies from my own experiences i have to say Royal Mail have shocked me with how poor they have been on my recent visits.
When i trust a company to deliver expensive items with a Guranteed Signed for Special Delivery i do not expect a day of upset, stress and a customer that is threatening to sue me because the postman decided it was easier to deliver 5 doors away without even informing my customer they had done so.
The signature on the tracking page had no relevance at all to the address i paid for delivery to and the delivery address that was awaiting the parcel took a day off work to ensure they were in.
Surely its illegal for a delivery driver to give expensive personal items to a total stranger and not even have the courtesy to put a card through the door to state where it was left.
It was down to my customers own upset she knocked on every door in the street till she found Mr Norris with whom she has never met before.
I am a Uk business manager within the Apple realm, i am responsible for all the deliveries and booking courier companies for the volumes of orders that go out of our premises.
As of today Royal Mail have now been removed from the list and will never be used again.
I have now employed the services of Excel couriers in Central London because i need a company that employ trustworthy individuals that do the jobs intended and not individuals that do as they please.
If i could claim compensation for the time i took off work trying to sort this out i would!

Im fed up of sending Recorded Items to buyers on E Bay when they are clearly not getting signed for. Numerous people are getting my Parcel's shoved through their letter boxes or left in places in their gardens or sheds ..Im paying for a service that I'm clearly not getting!! To top it off all my recorded items I have been receiving lately have been the same put through my letter box or left in my garden!! It's appalling to say the least!!! This morning the postman shoved a recorded parcel through my letterbox and he could see i was home because my car was in the drive... I sent a parcel beginning of the month with Royal Mail and it was a largish parcel which was quite impossible to lose..it was sent 1st class recorded and my Buyer after nearly 3 weeks is saying she still has not received it...i have proof of postage and the tracking number and have looked online to check it and its saying still in the process of delivery...i mean 3 weeks and it should have well arrived by now...so where is this parcel????Im going to look into getting another parcel delivery Service like Hermes or somewhat similar as they seem to be really good and have been advised that a lot of people are now turning to them, lots of people I hear are not happy with Royal Mail lately!!!.. Royal Mail is not the same as it used to be and the postmen are getting lazy and lazier!!!! It won't be long before everyone else gets tired of their bad service and choses to use another company they can trust and rely on!!!
l have recently had a bad experience with the Royal Mail and l have heard other people complained about their inefficiency. My ordeal was that l ordered a product from the state, U.S.A l was able to track it online till it got to my local Mail delivery Office in London. l waited for my parcel to be delivered but it never got to me and l had to go to their delivery Office to inquire of my parcel. It was big surprise to me, they could not prove to me whether it been delivered to my address and without any apology they insisted that it has been delivered. There was no prove of signature and l was at home on that day they claimed it was delivered. l have still not received my parcel. l don't believe the staff at my Local mailing Office are telling me the truth. lts could be they have misplaced my parcel or delivered it to a wrong address. l don't expect my registered parcel to be handled this way. l have no confidence in the Royal Mail anymore.
I recently had to send my driving licence (both paper and photo card parts) to DVLA in Swansea to have my photo updated. As these are such important documents, I sent them by recorded & tracked delivery.
This was my first mistake! The licence has not yet (nearly 3 months later) arrived at DVLA...according to the tracking information on the Royal Mail's website, it is still at the post office branch I handed it into (not so, incidentally!).
I have complained about this numerous times and have been repeatedly fobbed off. No-one takes any ownership of complaints or problems, and no-one EVER admits that the Royal Mail is in the wrong, or offers an apology.
I eventually submitted a complaint, and a claim for compensation, nearly 6 weeks ago. I received a response to this...asking me to submit a claim for compensation! When I replied that I already had, and that their response was in relation to that, I heard no more. To date, I have not received any compensation, apology, or explanation. I do not have my driving licence, and will now have to pay £20 for a replacement (and God only knows who has my original licence - very worrying in the current climate of indentity fraud).
The only redeeming feature of the Royal Mail for me is my local postie, who is a gem. He's unfailingly helpful and cheerful...the Royal Mail could really do with employing a few thousand more like him!!
I sent some 1st Class Recorded Signed for post which had great value to a family member and was horrified to find that it hadn't been signed for despite having a big sticker saying recorded signed for post, it had just been left not fully posted in the letterbox. That is not the point, I had paid £8.80 as it was 4 separate cards for my nephews and niece. If i'd have just wanted normal 1st class post that is what i'd have paid for.
Royal Mail need to take on more competent posties and provide a more competent service.
PAID FOR A ROYAL MAIL INSURED SERVICE FOR A PIECE OF DELICATE PORCELAIN I SOLD ON EBAY. WRAPPED IT REALLY WELL, LAYER UPON LAYER OF BUBLLE WRAP PLACED IN BOX PROTECTED WITH POLYSTYRENE AND THEY STILL MANAGED TO BREAK IT. THEY THEN HOLD ME RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT WRAPPING IT SUFFICIENTLY IN ORDER TO AVOID PAYING ME COMPENSATION. WHAT A RIP OFF WHY PAY FOR AN INSURED SERVICE WHEN IT MEANS NOTHING.......................YOU DONT STAND A CHANCE WHEN YOU ARE UP AGAINST A BIG ORGANISATION.

To sum it up I make lots of online shopping orders and avoid a company is they are using royal mail. I live in a building with front desk concierge 9am till 6 pm. I have no problem getting my other items from alternative companies. However when its royal mail im never surprised to find a something for you card ! This company has really gone to pot its a real shame. The postmen are either not bothering to take the package and leaving a card and if they are not doing that they are stealing post. Don't bother making a complaint as it will be not taken seriously and no action is taken. Its a real shame and they should really be realizing other companies are way ahead of these guys. Most companies allow you to track your and offer a swift redelivery.

i sold a £19 pound textbook on amazon, im based in london and the buyer lives in outer east london. i figured it would be cheaper if i just took a train there. It costs £6 for a return trip but the journey time is 2 hours for a round trip so i thought ok why bother just send it by post. When i went to the PO and asked for the cheapest 2nd class option for the delivery. The guy smiled cunningly at me and said sir, the cheapest option is £12.99 cuz the book weighs 2kg or sth, i was like WTF, £13 TO SEND A TEXTBOOK WHICH COSTS £19. WOW WHY AM I EVEN PAYING TAX? I MEAN IF SOMETHING IS WORTH BELOW 13 QUID UR LOSING MONEY IF U DECIDE TO APPROACH THESE GUYS.
I think what did it for me was when they introduced their new size as well as weight restrictions. The cut off point for width for a small parcel is 8cm. I'm sure this has been carefully calculated so that the majority of ebay items have to be sent as medium parcels (even kids' shoes!) at a total rip off cost. Posties are great where I live but RM as a whole are greedy beyond belief.
N.B. where does this thing about size comes from that medium parcels have to be delivered whilst using a van, total b@!&!
OK, so when exactly did 1st class start taking a week to arrive (if it arrives at all, that is)? Their website stills says it's a next day service and that 93% is delivered in that time. Guess I'm in the 7% then.
How is it that two parcels from the same company, posted on the same day using the same service, do not arrive on the same day? (One was actually next day (shock!), the other? Well, I'm still waiting...)
Why does the postie think it's fine to dump stuff outside my door - even in the rain - and not even bother to ring the doorbell?
Why does the postie think it is acceptable to try to bend something labelled with the word 'FRAGILE' to force it to fit through the letterbox (and, of course, break).
Why are parcels for which the sender paid for a 'signed for' service being shoved through the door without any attempt to get my attention for a signature?
How does this company manage to lose so many parcels? I buy a lot from eBay, and I've had to report missing items so often that I'm surprised eBay aren't investigating me for fraud! (A while back I had 3 deliveries from different sellers turn up 6 weeks late - and yes, they had been posted 1st class!)
All of this and more, and yet they think it's acceptable to keeping hiking the prices up, then blaming things like email and courier companies for their drop in profits. I wonder if it's ever occurred to them that it might just be their pathetic "service" that causes their profits to drop?
Why aren't Royal Fail reading the reviews on sites such as this, and trying to improve? Could it be they don't care? Ladies and gentlemen, I think that may just be it: they don't care!
This is not the first time I have had cause to be very annoyed with Royal Mail. As a result of this most recent incident - I will NEVER EVER AGAIN use their Recorded Delivery Service. In October last year - having paid £1.55 for the service they failed to deliver an important letter to my mobile phone provider with reference to a disputed phone bill. Despite being told at the counter the letter would be delivered in two working days - having been posted on October 31st, 2012 the letter was still "progessing through Royal Mails network for delivery" on November 20th!!! By this time I had resolved the dispute already mentioned but I complained to the customer services team at RM and was told that I could claim a refund if the letter hadn't been delivered in 15 days from it's due delivery date (21/11/12 according to the RM - what!!!!).........er sorry - I was TOLD at the service till two working days for 1st class recorded delivery so that is clearly NOT five weeks later!! I am fairly busy so forgot to check any further on the service I paid for and didn't at that point, claim my refund - how I wish I had!!
Anyway, I suppose more fool me but on the 12th September this year, I chose to have another go with this service - sending a recorded delivery letter to a manufacturer re a faulty product. Maybe they've sorted their apalling service out now I thought - over optimistic or what! No - Royal Mail are still as bad as ever! After a week I thought it odd that I hadn't heard from the company concerned and then though to check via the RM "Track & Trace Service and guess what! As of today (21/09/13), my letter is still "being progressed through our network for delivery" So, so - that's not two working days it's now 9 days in total and the letter is still not delivered!!
Once again, I suspect it won't get delivered, but even so, why was I expected to pay £1.70 this time for a service that falls right off the edge as far as reasonable expectations are concerned. This company is a very very bad joke and needs competition. I think because they are the only one delivering letters that they just don't give a damn, I can only hope that when they are privatized that some healthy competition is allowed to appear to kick this shower of incompetents into the far reaches of cyberspace where they belong and QEII really should ban them from prefixing their name with Royal - unless she is aware that really Royal Mail is really, a right Royal scandal!!
Whenever I've gone in to my local post office they're really friendly and helpful. They offer excellent customer service and process all of my transactions quickly and efficiently. Deliveries are accurate and are 90% of the time accurate, which is excellent compared to other parcel services and couriers. Unfortunately, due to recent price rises other companies have proven cheaper at times for me to use however I can see myself using the Royal Mail to the distant future for the good speed and convenience.
Had money expertly sliced out of an envelope containing a birthday card to my niece , it had been so carefully done that the only way that my sister in law. Even knew that any money had been taken was due to the note that luckily was still with the card telling my niece to get yourself something with the money .
Apparently this problem is now very common inside Royal Mail so much so that one person a day is sacked inside this outfit . DO NOT trust these people with you're hard earned even if you do try to complain these clowns will try you're patience to the extreme and fob you off with another internal investigation
They stated that my parcel was delivered to my work address on the 04/09/2013.. but nothing arrived and now i have to wait 10 days for them to file the report into the complaints department for an investigation!! absolutely shocking, going to have waited about 16 days since i ordered my item!!
Never using ever ever again!
That dreaded time came for me to renew my passport. I loathe paperwork. The only thing I hate more is praying that Royal Mail doesn't screw things up as per usual. Well, at least they're consistent. I'll give them that much. Anyway, review time...
I had to send off my passport application, so I decided to send it Signed For. After having a think about it in the Post Office, I forked out for Special Delivery at a cost of £6.22 (yes, you heard that right. £6.22 for an envelope with a passport application and my old passport in it. I couldn't believe it either - I thought it might cost about £3 at the most). At least this way, I knew my application would get there by 1pm next day, right? WRONG!
So, I had apparently missed the last delivery on the Friday because 5:30pm had been (it hadn't. Even the clock on the post office wall said 5:27pm so it couldn't just be my watch). Besides, the post office shuts at 5:30pm and everyone knows that they won't let you through the door after 5:29pm.
Over the weekend, I couldn't track the item because the tracking number kept giving me "Error - couldn't find item". Come 1:25pm today (Monday), the website says it hasn't been delivered yet. I called Royal Mail to be told that "this is normal" and that the item wouldn't be marked as delivered until 1:30pm. Guess what - it's 2:13pm and the item still says "It's on its way". I called again only to be told that "it's probably there. We won't know until the end of the week but it's probably there". I paid £6.22 for this? A big part of me laughs because this is so tragic that I can hardly believe what I'm being told.
What happened to Royal Mail? I no longer get my post until after lunch and I've lost track of how many items have gone missing in the post this year. They seem to be putting up prices based on Iranian inflation rates.
Give me just one reason why I should even consider using Royal Mail again. Turns out there are dozens of cheaper companies offering a service one million times better than this. I can't wait until the day rival postboxes are allowed to stand next to those owned by the Royal Mail. I wonder which boxes would get used more?
I prefer royal mail purely and simply due to the fact that they always deliver in the morning, the mailmen usually know where to deliver my items if I'm not in which saves the hastle of having to run to the depot the next day to get it.
Even if they do fail to deliver the depot is only a mile away.. I strugle to see why couriers are needed as royal mail is the most reliable company out there for delivering, and as far as im aware, one of the cheapest also.
Very bad – unacceptable experience, unreasonable and rude conduct and poor customer service.......
What's happening to the Royal Mail?
In the face of new and upcoming competition they aren't working to be more efficient and a better service, they are just putting up prices and closing branches???
I had to pay £8 for a small light parcel today, a year or two ago that kind of thing would have cost only £4.50. How the hell has the cost doubled in that time? I had to ask the counter lady the cost twice because I was genuinely astounded. I'm angry that I went ahead with it anyway but I was in a rush, held to ransom by time and these now crooks.
I sent a small letter special delivery the other day, that was £6, up from just £3.50 a year or two ago, again.
Basically, I won't be using Royal Mail anymore for any parcels and I won't send something Special except in the most dire of circumstances.
With the ongoing branch closures and spiralling prices this once great and highly reasonable mail service is drawing it's last breaths.

Can you believe it. We just posted off a very light weight shoe box size package. £8 for second class - Hermes is half the price. Makes posting things a waste of time via royal mail.
I had to send the original of my degree certificate and some other documents to complete the application process for a MA abroad I got offered a place at. I sent them by International Signed for, but Royal Mail managed to lose it anyway. They claimed that the letter never 'left' the post office I sent it from, but the staff at the post office said that according to their records it did, and it was the postman who did not scan the parcel. Frankly, I don't really care what happened, I want my documents back. It is appaling, that the Royal Mail won't even look for the lost parcel, all they did was register my complaint, apologise and say they will try harder next time. Great! So thank's to their wonderful service I don't think I'll get on the programme this year! Thank you Royal Mail for taking at least a year out of my life.
Would put zero stars if it was possible. Completely unreliable. Next day delivery NOT guaranteed i would say! Waiting for my parcel for a week already, while according to the tracking info it has been staying at one of the sort offices for most of the time. When the sender phones them, they pretend that the address is wrong despite the fact that you can find it on their 'address finder' page and that i've been using it for a year for all my mail!
Royal Mail sucks, I send a few parcels a week for a considerable amount. Of money to be honest, the amount of items which get lost are ridiculous and half of the time you won't get compensation for their mistake. I recently went in with a small package with 3 large first class stamps and they have yet again changed the pricing, it was now going to be sent second class. How can they do that, I bought 1st class stamps which are now treated as second class. Pathetic company, it'll be a good day when they are privatised!!!
Royal Mail's excellent service, fast delivery, and reasonable rates make them my all time favorite courier. Thanks to Royal Mail, I have been able to open my E-Commerce business to international trading, due to excellent overseas prices.
It will be a sad day should the privatization of Royal Mail go through, I will surely revise my review should the level of service decline (which I believe it will).

So much of my post simply doesn't arrive. I have tried to complain several times but they simply don't care. Half of the time you cannot get through to customer services (especially as the automated service refers you to the royal mail website!). When you do manage to speak to them, the operative staff are friendly but are quite clearly unable to help. It feels like they are stuck behind a system they know doesn't work and they know it wont make a slight bit of difference if you do complain!
Despite my concerns, I wasn't even asked for my name or postal address. I was instead instructed to contact the people who are posting my mail to ask them to submit a complaint for each item.
Like I should have to chase up every single letter / item ( it is as if the service is a charity and nobody pays for postage).
Just stick the post with my address on it through the slot in my door. Not rocket science for staff, especially given that most of the work is automated.
Unfortunately, for most items we do not have a choice but to put up with a dreadful service (and the Royal Mail know it! They simply don't need to care about the average customer)
Shame I can't rate the service to be lower than 1 star!
We were in London last month for a quick Holiday. We sent postcards to our friends and families in Denmark on May 17, the day before we came back home. Our friends got the postcards TODAY, JUNE 18!!!
Shame on you Royal Mail, you make us sick!
Next time we'll send the postcards with a pigeon, they will surely arrive faster!
Shame on you!!

Will never use them again! I sent my item and paid for insurance.
The parcel (violin) was wrapped to the guidelines accept for one thing apparently. A violin case is not deemed sufficient for the protection of a violin although the definition states "a violin case is designed to hold and protect".
Although a violin case contains sponge to protect the violin from movement and bangs. They expect you to also squash newspaper shreds in where possible. So if you send your item in a protective container which is as good as a steel box it's not deemed as good as a cardboard box that has newspaper in it. Or look at it like this. If you have an instrument, throw away the case and buy a cardboard box and fill it out with newspaper shreds as it's more protective ESPECIALLY for shipping!!.
I think royal mail should have a word with the manufacturers of a musical instrument company and put their idea across of a new improved MORE SOLID option of transporting your instruments. A box which contains paper rather than a MANUFACTURED case that contains sponge!!
I sent it as follows. The violin was in it's original manufactured transport protective solid case. I then put bubble wrap around the case to protect the case from any scratches. I then put cardboard over the bubble wrap that then had fragile notes all over it.
The violin was worth £160 and now it's worth nothing. One of there staff must have jumped on it really hard. When i got the item back from royal mail declining a reimbursement i tested the packaging myself. I put all my 15 stone on it and it never broke. I even jumped up and down slightly. The guy/women from royal mail must have drove over it with the van then chucked it off a bridge. They must have budget cuts or something.
Is this the end of my claim? No it's just the start. I will follow this all the way to court and will try to publish the story in my local newspaper.
FOR ANYONE READING THIS CHECK OUT THE COLLECT + POSTAGE PRICES. THERE LITERALLY HALF THE PRICE WITH NO CUEING IN THE STUPID POST OFFICE.
ITS SO MUCH EASIER TOO!! YOU JUST DROP THE PARCEL AT YOUR LOCAL SHOP WHERE IT IS TRACKED ALL THE WAY!!
I'LL SAY IT AGAIN... FOR HALF THE PRICE.
Parcel ordered from the hut - freebie 2/3 day service selected - arrived day 4, so not great from that perspective. Unlike another carrier which the hut group use, Royal Mail comms with parcel tracking info were jargon-ridden and confusing. Not recommended
They deliver at the most inconvenient times, offices are closed when you would expect them to be open. They obviously don't care about the customer experience since there is little effort or desire to be flexible and provide a 'service'.
I have many deliveries from other companies and occasionally suffer problems. With RM it is more often than not. They are a PITA.

Few weeks ago I sent a parcel through royal mail with insurance the person I sent the item got ripped item and broken when I contact royal mail customer service they didnt convinced me well I lost everything in my parcel with a careless staff's who doesnt care the other people's stuff I hope they do better in the future
Best service around... If I drop the parcel off with an overnight service, it really is overnight. When it snows it's still overnight! The guys who deliver to me are always positive too and the items NEVER arrive damaged. Only complaint is prices are rising pretty fast. Still worth using over other services though :)
I have spoken to customer services as neither of my parcels sent to Russia arrived. I paid for International Sign for, at an extra cost for peace of mind but after 7 weeks still nothing! The website says it takes 11 days to Moscow and Customer Services have told me that once it leaves the UK there is nothing they can do to find my parcel and I have to contact the Russian Postal Service myself.
What a joke, I paid for International sign for, and they cannot find my parcel, You have to sign to collect it and I have a Tracking number but Customer Services said there is no way of finding out where my parcels are!!
What's the point in buying International sign for if you can not find out where my parcels are and can not find out who has signed for it , if anyone!!
The Post Office Counter even told me to pay extra for peace of mind as it needs to be signed for otherwise it's returned to myself! hmm still waiting!
UPDATE: Parcel turned up 2 months later! better late than never I guess!
I say 8 out of 10 times, because for every 10 parcels I order, I usually find that only 8 turn up out of the bunch in good condition, without ill treatment. Now compare this with my hermes and it speaks.
However when Royal Mail do get it right everything is good. When they don't get it right you'd enjoy running into a brick-wall. For valuable items, always send special delivery, signed for is pretty useless.
For me it does the job, is generally reliable, but sometimes has its issues which can be frustrating.
BUT PRICES have gone SOOOO HIGH!!
What can I say, but my local posties are brilliant cannot fault them , they go beyond
To get my parcels to me as they know I work and life close by so I never miss a parcel which is many lol
Unlike some couriers, Royal Mail go beyond what they get paid for
Keep up the good work very impressed
And wish my posties could deliver larger parcels I have been terribly let down with
Received a parcel today already opened and 3 miniature bottles of whiskey missing, rang customer services to complain, they contacted the driver who said the package was intact when delivered. I have complained but expect nothing to happen. will not use the again
