Had some real issues with Scan, i have ordered in the past and not had a problem aside from their very long login procedure, however last Saturday i ordered £1400 worth of HDD's for a raid upgrade, i filled in the billing address and the delivery address and then took advantage of their 9 months interest free credit option.
They then insisted that it was impossible to send the items to the delivery address (work) but would have to send it to arrive on Tuesday morning at the invoice address (home) I explained that i would have to take a day off for this to happen but they said there was no alternative. so i took the day off and stayed at home but no hdds arrived their explaination was that there was a technical issue and that they would be delivered tomorrow, i said that there definately would not be anyone at the address so they are now refusing to send them until i can guarantee that there is someone in at the billing address.
This is so laughably backward but it makes me pretty angry too. so now i'm going to have to get my deposit back and get the Hdds from elsewhere. why would there be a delivery address option if they can't deliver to anywhere except the invoice address?
AVOID this company is my advice.
i have purchased a lot from scan and there an amazing company much much better than overclockers!!!. there customer service is great and helpful there deals are the best out there and the delivery times are spot on. i can't fault anything i don't know why people are giving them the 1 star. i had a psu fail on me recently sent it back to them it was tested within the day of them receiving it now i'm getting a new one sent back to me free of charge i also sent a graphics card back a while ago and got refunded with no problems. personally i think the people sending stuff back and not getting refunded for damage is either the courier or themselves!. the company is top notch! i would seriously not go with overclockers!! first time customer with them and it will be the last the company is very bad. scan all the way
I use scan for nearly everything I need computer related, unless I need something urgently. Prices are generally cheaper than anywhere else. I am lucky enough to live a 20 min drive from scan, and the Q-Collect service is excellent, although waiting in the shop for your order to be collected is hardly a painful experience, plenty of things on display to look at. The only thing I have had an issue with is a graphics card I bought last year, The box itself seemed fine, but upon opening the box, the plastic packaging inside had shattered, asif the box had been dropped or crushed at some point. No problem though, as the card worked and still does.
I can't comment on scan's RMA policy's as I have never had to return a product.
Keep up the great work scan.
About a year ago I ordered a Nvidia graphics card. I did not use it immediately intending to update several other items at the same time. Plugged in the card and nothing much happened - very distorted images. Plugged in old one and it worked. Definitely the Graphics Card. Returned it to Scan. After about two weeks got fed up waiting and bought another card from elsewhere. Eventually Scan confirmed the card was faulty. They could not replace it so offered me a refund some £20 less than I had paid for it. That was last August. I written to them around 5 times and not had any replies. No refund or credit has been forthcoming. Guess that I will have to sue them in the small claims court. Beware fellow buyers. They may know about their products but it the fails, they lose interest and do not answer Emails etc.BE WARNED
Been a shopper at Scan for many years. Never had a problem with any product. Staff have always been helpful and knowledgeable. Its no coincidence that Scan has got bigger and better while other places have struggled. Hope to be a happy customer for years tome come!
It is many years now since I placed my first order with Scan. As I live only about 5 miles away I am able to use their Q collection service, I can normally place an order and pick it up within the hour. Their delivery is second to none and reasonable, considering it is next day service.
For quality goods, great prices and good service, I seldom need to look elsewhere to feed my PC habit.
I only use Scan because the products are great just what I need the service is excellent, I can count on one hand the number of items that I have had a problem with over the last 10 years, I can call in and collect the goods that I have pre-ordered has the Q-Collect service is excellent.
Great to Scan keep up the good work.
John
I'm lucky enough to live a few miles away from Scan, so I can order from home using their "Q Collect" process and by then time I've driven there my order is usually ready for collection.
I've been shopping at Scan since they first opened their shop at Middlebrook. I like the fact that they stock a large range of high quality components and on the rare occasions I've had to return items, this has been a painless process.
I've built several PCs from scratch and have always found their website invaluable for choosing the right components. I also find Scan to be the best place to buy most of my peripherals: flash drives, memory cards, network media players, solid state drives and high quality memory upgrades for my PCs and Macbooks.
Don't even bother looking elsewhere, great products, good advice, great service and good prices.
My most recent transaction was for a pair of 3TB disks. I looked around just to check, but the Scan price was top of the list again. They are always very close.
Order online, chose next day postage at a sensible price or pop in and pick up. Good comms every step of the way.
Not everything goes this smoothly. I have had to return a disc drive and 2 motherboards during their warranty periods. In each case the RMA process is pretty smooth. You need to demonstrate the problem, but that's what you would expect isn't it. There seems to be a bit of bad press here for poor service, but I can confirm that the experience has been good for me.
People are really complaining about ordering mistakes and not getting stuff for free? Come on, get serious...
i have been using scan since it was in little lever and you could never fault them
on the 2 occasions that i have had something wrong i have found that the rma procedure is quick and painless
i worked in 2 computer shops and rather than buy from the shops i worked at even with staff discount scan was still cheeper and the staff are friendly and they sure know there stuff
i would recomend scan over anyone else
I have ordered a full system from scan, the delivery was very fast and everything seemed fine, until I got to the case, the paint was chipped and the case rusted, they said they would replace it for me but I would have to wait for them to pick it up then I have to wait for a replacement, I had been waiting for a week before I contacted them just to find out it was it of stock! Even though, on their website it says that it is in stock and that it can be delivered tomorrow!
I have contacted them several times with extremely slow replies, sometimes it takes a day for them to reply. I have asked for the same case in a different colour, I am still waiting for a reply. Definitely won't be purchasing from them again, i have £1,000 worth of parts that are useless because I don't have a case they're dragging their feet with. Two weeks since I contacted them about the damaged case, and still, nothing has been sent out.
Edit:
Just got a reply, they now say that it would be fine to get the same case in a different colour, but I would have to pay the difference because the price has gone up after all of this ordeal! This just gets worse and worse!
"What a joke! After waiting over one month for my card back thay offered me 3 option for my MSIGTX570 OC-
100+VAT or one of two cards with much lower performance!
After ignoring my queries many times and cheated my 2 years ago on my DFI motherboard do you think I will go for it? NO WAY!!!""
I requested a quote from Scan, basically it was a custom high end system with 16Gb RAM (2x8Gb) . They sent a detailed quote which I accepted and paid by credit card.
The item was shipped and we received it but it only had 2x4Gb Ram.
I called and they said they had made a mistake on the quote and that it would cost me close to another £50 to correct....!
I told them the contract was formed and accepted by them and they need to rectify it, they have refused. So, when you order from them, do NOT expect to get what you ordered and do not expect them to resolve it....
I have all email correspondence if required for verification.
I will also retract this negative review (if possible) if they resolve the problem. Unbelievable that you need to resort to negative press to resolve problems!
As an ex employee of Scan I know for a fact how good the service and products are, Scan has always been my first choice when looking for anything computer related and have rarely had any problems with purchases and when I have had a fault it has been sorted out very quickly
I have always received excellent service from Scan. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. I would recommend them to any body.
I now always drive 30 miles to Scan instead of shopping local or staying in all day fro mail order. Their shop is a pleasure to visit, with loads of exciting top-range 'bling' stock on display, but they also have a great stock of products to suit every budget. Their prices are usually unbeatable, and their returns/test desk are very helpful and approachable. I have taken a couple of items back, which they refunded without any fuss. I also love their Quick Collect system: Browse online, make your purchases, pay by PayPal if preferred, then drive to the shop for immediate collection. To top it all off, they have lovely coffee etc from a machine for just 30p!!! I highly recommend Scan for all your computer needs.
Great to deal with until things go wrong under warranty.
Bought a DGM TV from Scan, died after 30 days. Scan said I had to deal with Dgm direct . Set picked up for repair by DGM
Set returned after 4 MONTHS and numerous phone calls to DGM and SCAN, set still faulty so back to DGM.
After another 2 MONTHS with no set SCAN gave me a refund minus delivery charge. I know not SCAN's fault BUT?!?!
Had another set from SCAN, different manufacturer. Went wrong during manufacturers warranty. Manufacturer gone out of business SCAN refused to do anything. Once again not SCAN's fault BUT?!?!
I'm fortunate enough to work very close to the Horwich Sales Counter. Scan's Q-Collect system is superb and means I get the stuff I need at good prices, same day and with minimal hanging around when go to collect.
On the rare occasion that I've had some issue with an order (and I use Scan very frequently), it has been resolved quickly, politely and with the minimum of fuss.
Basically, for IT gear, I only ever go elsewhere if I need something which Scan don't stock.
Have used Scan for years and still do because of good prices and products. The product pages make it easy to see all the information about the item, and I like how all products are sorted by price low to high automatically.
When I have used support to change an item for example, they have always replied extremely fast. A perfect company especially if you build your own PC's, it has everything you need.
I've used Scan for years and basically like them; their range and pricing is very good and they usually have what you need in stock. On the other hand they make it very hard to actually BUY anything from them these days.
You need an account to buy from them.
You need password + personal info + security question to log in.
The cardholder needs to show up in person with multiple IDs to collect goods.
The last purchase I made very nearly didn't happen because of the number of hurdles they put in the way.
I've used Scan now for bits and bobs as well as off the shelf laptops and custom built PCs through their 3XS service, and I've got no complaints at all...
There was an issue with one of the 3XS systems, it didn't work, I returned it, they sorted it, and never had any problems with that or any future ones since...
It's handy living about 20 mins down the motorway from them, so I'd always choose to collect when I can rather than pay the shipping costs (which are a bit too high really), but that's my only complaint.
Bought a laptop from Scan, it had problems. Normally would return under Distance Selling act, but they have a new trick wherein they will tell you they ordered a product specifically for you and also bring into play their 3XS promise which reads thus:
"What is 3XS? - specification, service, satisfaction
In a nutshell , we want to offer you the right Specification of goods and the right Service levels, for you to feel Satisfied with your shopping experience at Scan so you will have no hesitation to buy from us again."
All very reassuring but don't be fooled, THIS IS MEANINGLESS. Don't be afraid to pull the distance selling act on these people because they will otherwise do their best to screw you.
I ran tests on the laptop, built up strong case for replacement, they requested it be sent back to them for diagnosis, they ran their own tests which OF COURSE showed NO PROBLEM and attempted to place blame on the customer for installing software. Who doesn't install software on a computer!?!?
Bottom line: have a laptop which performs badly despite being a 2nd gen i7, unable to return it due to the 7 days distance selling period elapsing, and had to pay shipping costs both ways and problem diagnosis costs. Out of pocket and frustrated beyond belief. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.
Will now have to seek legal advice.

This company will do anything to get out of RMA of products, They would not give me refund on my mobo claiming it had bent pins which I know for a fact is untrue as I inspected it before sending, Now not only do I have a broken mobo and shipping charges i will also have to buy a new motherboard,
DO NOT TRUST THESE THIEVES GO WITH A MORE TRUSTED COMPANY WITH YOUR MONEY!

I have been a Scan customer since they were in Radcliffe decades ago and have had very few problems. However, recently I purchased a 3XS value business system from them and (without my instruction) they installed (and registered!) the 64-bit version of Microsoft Office Pro, which apparently has many compatibility issues with other software and was therefore unusable. Also an internal SATA cable and DVD drive were missing (I'm still waiting for the cable).
Meanwhile I was under pressure to get the system up and running for a new employee. Scan failed to express any regret, refused to admit any responsibility for causing the PC to be unusable by installing the wrong version of Office, refused to go out of their way to do anything to cooperate which would help me speedily get the PC into productive use, also insisting that anything they did to put the situation right would have to be paid for, including buying a new product key for 32-bit MS Office Pro. (This was bad advice as the product key was good for both which I discovered after contacting Microsoft and downloading the correct software myself.)
What dismayed me most of all, though, was the complete lack of empathy and the ignorance, arrogance and stubborn self-righteous unhelpfulness of the customer support guy allegedly responsible for the 3XS systems output. In future I will think very seriously before buying anything other than accessories and cables from Scan, even though they are very convenient to where I live. When you read the other reviews, note the negative ones for a common theme. Scan do a lot of bragging about how good they are, but on the occasions when things go wrong there's a very different picture emerging. Scan need to root out staff with a bad attitude if they don't want to see customer loyalty evaporating.
You want a what for your PC!!...
Scan will have it and possibly at the best price in the local Galaxy :)
Let me check for you
I always use scan for my harddrives, etc. and I find the service superb. You can usually pick up the item ordered online within an hour. I just wish it was right on my doorstep.
I have multiple pc builds off scan both mid range and high end components over the years I would not order pc components from any one else.
Why ?
Outstanding customer service
Best delivery system in the industry
Outstanding choice
Pricing
Customer support
Excellent and easy website to use
I have bought multiple components including motherboards, cases, hard drives, graphics cards, ssd, memory, power supplies, DVD drives every component you can think off.
Never had a problem with them or any components bought from them. Excellent service just login to your account to check your order status any problems with stock they let you know on your log screen give them a ring and it's sorted out.
Delivery through DPD is outstanding you get test messages through each step of delivery including them letting you know the exact date normally with in 24hrs and the with a delivery time slot with in 2 hrs of drop time.
I wish every other company could offer a delivery service as professional and speedy as this.
By from scan with complete confidence they are an outstanding company to do business with.
Kind regards
Digital Dennis
Long story short, their customer service is appalling to say the least.
First i ordered a complete system costing over £1400, only to find that my brand spanking new monitor had this annoying dead pixel right at the middle of the screen. RMA says suck it up, they won't replace it. So i expect a new monitor to have a dead pixel from Scan. Great. Then my graphics card developed this cracking noise, presumably from the fans. I took them out, and i couldn't figure out whats wrong, so i sent to RMA. They say they used an air gun to fix the blades and now they make no noise. They charged me freaking £20 for that. Hey, I'm not an expert, i tried the best i can to see what's wrong. Thats what your freaking technical department are for! Guess what, the noise is still there, just not as loud as before. I really can't be bothered with scan anymore. I strongly advice all potential customers to think twice. there are plenty of better company, more worth to spend your hard earned cash on.

Still waiting for my order, what makes this worse is that i only live 13 Miles away from the distribution center.
Even if they had to order parts it still shouldn't take this long!
After hearing great reviews from friends and web reviews, I am extremely disappointed.

Got to be the worst company for customer service, orders, deliveries.
They have completely messed up my orders on multiple occasions, I received my PSU that was faulty on arrival, I sent back for an RMA, still waiting for it to be delivered, I was told that it had been tested faulty and a replacement was in stock and ready to be shipped out. This was 5 days ago, I was then told that it was out of stock and they have no clue when it will be back in stock, Offered me a replacement which was a lot cheaper and worse than the original. I declined, they then offered me a cheaper and worse product again but an improvement over the first offer, i accepted as I am in desperation of this item. I have emailed them multiple times requesting a Saturday delivery on my item and they are yet to get back to me. The customer service of this company is appalling, their website is terrible they constantly list items as in stock, when your purchase them the money is taken from your account but then conveniently goes out of stock (this has happened over 4 times). Items that I have received have been of poor quality (I purchased a CPU (i7), I had to return it 4 times as they originally sent me the wrong model, then another wrong model, then a broken cpu (Which had clearly been used due to the thermal paste on the chip) then an i5. Then they finally sent me the correct one over 3 weeks later) I purchased a CPU cooler last week which was in stock, i then received an email stating that it was out of stock and was due in stock 2 weeks later (this was after they had taken my money) and now this.
So even if the price looks good on Scan.co.uk - Avoid at all costs and use eBuyer
edit: They have now put through my order for my RMA but all my above points still stand.

Over 21 years in the computer engineer roll and in these hard times Scan have proved to me not only they have a great service but they also go beyond what if expected. and a personal note to Mark in Technical support great work mate.
It's not too often we are totally satified with a companies services. I've just had a bit of a tiz with another computer shop (faulty goods/long return service etc) so I was hesitant to use another computer company so close to this business. SCAN Computers have been the total opposite. Good quality item, really well packaged, sent out quickly and numerous e-mail and texts to inform me of arrival.
I can't find fault with this service and I will definitely use SCAN when ordering new computer parts; plus, their prices are good too. Excellent all around.
S.P.L.Pepper
I ordered the parts for a new PC last week (at great prices) and accidentally ordered the wrong graphics card. Later that day, after I had been charged, I noticed the mistake. I rang them and explained my situation, they understood immediately and changed my order on the spot.
I scheduled the delivery for before 12pm so I didn't have to be off work all day and it came at 10.30. Packaging was good and all was in working order.
I will be using scan from now on for all my computer needs! Great company!
I've so far placed orders for parts from scan that has a total cost of in the thousands and I have yet to have a problem with their service.
I'll be honest and say that their email contact for customer service is a little confusing at times but if you ring them up then any problems that I've had have always been resolved quickly.
The first order I ever had from them had a faulty fan and scan paid for the postage for it to be sent back and two days later a new one turned up in the post. I really can't complain.
I've seen a few bad reviews on here but they always seem to be about returns. As I've yet to return anything then I can't comment on that side of the service. All I would say is read the reviews and make your own opinion as from what I've read I don't think It's always scan's fault. If at all their fault. Just bad customers.
I would Highly Recommend using scan.
order a motherboard, faulty on arrival asus say its still in warranty, scan claim that it isn't in warranty, the phone operator then preceded to verbally abuse me for half an hour, will be removing all future use of this company and use overclockers instead since they actually have good staff and good prices.
Ordered an item for Xmas 2012 for a friend. Price seemed good and had been in stock (allegedly) for quite some time. The item was even advertised on their main Page. They took payment for the item and I paid for next day delivery.
At 21:50pm I receive an email telling me that the item is discontinued and that in order to get a refund I would have to contact them. There seems very few options within account to actually do anything manually yourself :( so now a call was involved and a wait for a refund.
My main gripe is, I understand stock at times gets low or discontinued but payment should be taken when stock has been confirmed not before, now I must wait several days for the refund... And you guessed it no Sorry!!!!!
Just disappointed
Ive been shopping with Scan since 2004 and have had close to 150 purchases with Zero issues or complaints.
Fantastic staff, extensice product lines and an obvious desire to exceed expectations.
All this and unbelievably competitive pricing !
Scan always have an amazing range of items in stock for instant delivery or collection - their Q-collect system is great if you live near enough to call and collect. I've been a customer for around 20 years, when they had a small warehouse in Little Lever, and they are always my first choice for PC components and accessories. Highly recommended.
I live nearby and always choose to use the Q-collect service. I typically order the evening before and collect in person the next day. Items are invariably ready for collection by 1pm which suites me fine.
I have occasionally ordered on behalf of others despatching to their address and these have gone ahead without problem.
I quite often look at the 'Today only' section to check whether an item I might be thinking of buying is being offered more cheaply. I have found the discount offered over the normal price is quite variable, sometimes barely more than 1% so watch out, but some are more worthwhile. Three days ago I took advantage of an offer on WD Red 3TB HDDs which I'd been thinking about for a while. Checking out half a dozen price comparison sites Scan matched the cheapest for UK sourced items - added to that was a 5% discount and, for me no carriage charges, just a 5 mile drive combined with a shop at nearby Asda. (Pity the items will be at half today’s prices in 12 months). I was in, collected and out of the store within 5 minutes.
I can only recall having to return items twice. On one occasion a failed motherboard had destroyed a graphics card and a known good one which failed too when used as a replacement. Scan checked out both for me, confirming my fears, although only one was purchased there. On the other occasion a 'wall wart' PSU for a modem/router had failed just within warranty. New stock had been showing on the website as unavailable for a few weeks but, on visiting in person, found Scan had a working PSU from another unit which was going back to the manufacturer from an unrelated warranty claim. This was swapped over to my complete satisfaction.
I value the convenience and personal service I have received at Scan. Several years ago I tended to use Dabs for local collection, a couple of miles further away than Scan, until they closed their customer counter. But they had already become less competitive once they’d been taken over by BT. I've used Scan for maybe 10 years but would judge 80% of my PC hardware has been purchased there over the most recent 3 years. I conclude that makes for a recommendation.
