We used Thomsons to go on holiday to the Reef Oasis Blue Bay resort in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, as they are the only British company you can book with.
They state the resort is one of their "Platinum" resorts and it is - problem is, they dumped us onto Thomas Cook flights, no doubt to save a few quid.Subsequently, we travelled 6 hours each way on a Boeing 757-200, which was designed to transport battery chickens with no in-flight entertainment.
Pah - some Platinum holiday that turned out to be.
Never, ever again Thomsons
Difficult to avoid add-ons on their website. If you pay to book a seat they do not guarantee it and try their hardest not to refund you as we found out on both legs of our flight.
Our return flight from Florida was replaced with a local plane with appalling legroom. It took off over 6 hours late, we were lied to about this at check-in and went via Newfoundland. Derisory compensation in the form of a voucher was offered. I certainly won't be using them again.
I have traveled with Thomson three times now, usually prefering to travel with Kuoni. Their staff at the shop and resorts are extremely professional and very helpful and even ......... pleasant!
On the aircraft though they fall back into the ignorant misserable look.....
I recently used Thomson to fly to Corfu and discovered that they had reduced theirt handbaggage allowance to 5 kg. This is absolutely riduculous as my ultra-light small computer case when empy weighs 3 kg and add to this my travel/insurance documents etc and a book and, bingo, I'm stuffed and can't take my notebook computer. I expect this of Ryanair but in the past I have had good experiences with Thomson but it's time to say goodbye to them.
Only with Thomson can you sit on a plane for 11 hours and be given only a small sandwich and a biscuit. Worse still, the air staff continuously said we should drink water, then after asking for it they demanded €4 from me! The worst flight I've ever been on.
Lucky for us the safari holiday was top notch which made up for it.
We've had many holidays with Crystal & on the whole they have been pretty good with their overall service. When we have had need to complain, they have listened & usually rectified any issues - even paying out refunds where they are due, unlike other companies. They certainly can't be faulted on Ski holiday pricing against other much more expensive companies, and to be fair they do a pretty good job in trying to make the package experience work.
However, beware when adding extras to your online booking or making a complicated booking. Sometimes the details/prices haven't been loaded correctly on their web-site. In which case you'll need to give them a call. But they will honour the online discount if you explain.
