VERY HELPFUL

PHONED UP THE PORTLAND BRANCH ENQUIRING ABOUT SOME WOODWORKING TOOLS AS I AM STARTING THE RENOVATION OF MY HOUSE AND WANTED TO START WITH THE REPLACING OF MY DOORS. THE CHAP ON THE PHONE WAS VERY HELPFUL AND SUGGESTED I CAME UP TO THE STORE AMND HAVE A LOOK AT THEIR RANGE OF TOOLS.
UPON VISTING THE STORE I EXPLAINED MY SITUATION AND THE GUY BEHIND THE COUNTER WAS VERY HELPFUL AND GAVE ME A FEW HINTS AND TIPS ON DOOR HANGING AS HE WAS AN EX CARPENTER. I LEFT WITH AN ARMFUL OF TOOLS AND THEIR DOOR CATALOGUE, I COULDNT HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER EXPERIENCE.

Dereham Branch are a good bunch

Having worked for several years at a large independent merchant, and a national heating and plumbing merchant for a long time also, the boot is now on the other foot with me being the customer (Refined Designs, Bathrooms and Kitchens) and the merchants serving me. I have to say that the Dereham branch of Travis Perkins is pretty good, the staff are all friendly, and the prices are reasonable provided you haggle a bit. (which is understandable). Having said that, as a new customer I was very pleasantly surprised to get a voucher worth £50 off my next purchase over £250 - that soon got spent! So yes, I would recommend TP based on my experiences at the Dereham branch.

overcharged

I recently replaced the main roof of the house and purchased most materials from TP's, did the work evenings and weekend and had to replace lead valleys around a dorma window which I wasn't expecting to have to do. Purchased a roll of 450mm/6m code 4 lead on a Saturday morning guess how much?......£244.72 inc vat. Knew I was being overcharged at the time but didn't realise how much by and needed the lead to get on with work, I have since priced up this size lead at prices of between £110-£145 inc vat.
also used their Spanish slate, shit quality and strangely the slate on the back of the house came out of a full sealed crate and looks ok until the sun shines directly onto it, then for some reason massive colour variation between the slate becomes apparent and looks bloody awful. I know they give different rates to different people because I have worked for different builders who have accounts with them but they really do take the piss

Product guarantees with no guarantee

Iflo is Travis Perkins own brand for showers etc. Take a look at their literature and you'll see plenty of wording about guarantees. But interestingly there is no phone number to call, no email address and no postal address.
So how do you make a claim for some faulty materials? Well you are supposed to go to the branch of purchase where it will all be sorted out for you - NOT. Branches are staffed by not very bright sale people who have absolutely no interest in helping you. Of course I've only visited the branch twice, called 4 times and having eventually found a head office address called them 3 times. Perhaps I'm not working hard enough! Oh, and my plumber thinks the products are rubbish anyway.

Failed to deliver promised product on time

I ordered and paid for an expensive tap to replace a broken one. The sales assistant assured me there were 'hundreds' available nearby and the tap would be delivered to the store the next day. So we arranged for a plumber to install the tap the following day. When I phoned two days later the tap still had not arrived. I suspect that the assistant only told us the tap would be available the next day in order to secure the sale. Now not only have we been without a kitchen tap for 3 days (and counting..) but we also have to cancel and rearrange the plumber. Not good. Will not shop at TP again.

postcript: I sent this review to the manager at my local Travis Perkins and had an immediate phone call back to apologise. Apparently all a big mistake and the tap is in the store after all.... Can't fault them for their response to my compaint :-)

Good service at Epping Branch

Have lived in the area for years' but have never used TP until last week. Staff were friendly, polite and efficient. Plus they had everything I needed!

Do not care about costumer at all!

I have visited twice Travis Perkins branch at 1 Bard road,W10 6TP and both of these times staff unhelpful help to find a product which they have in stock. Staff attitude is very rude towards customer.They must be loosing a lot of money in these hard economic times by being expensive and careless about customer

Poor all round.

My first issue was with delveries. I have had 5 deliveries from Travis Perkins in Farnham. Only once have I not had an issue. Three times they did not turn up on the agreed date. No courtesy call to apologise. One other time they sent the wrong item. So in total TP get it right 20% of the time.

My second issue is with the pricing. We had an account and were told we were getting a discount accordingly. The problem was the prices were inflated 50% between 20 and 70% more than everyone else. Even with the so called discount they were nore expensive. I ordered 100M of 2" by 1" roofing batten. I was told it was £160 and free delivery. I was able to obtain the same for £70 including a charge for delivery.

Finally my recent expereince was the last straw. I popped in to hire something. Was given a card and told to call back in a weeks time for the hire. Dont they want my business? Really do I have to ask twice to spend money with these guys?

Terrible all round. How this company remains in business is beyond me.

They must lose so much money through poor customer services

We ordered lots of wood and other building materials. When TP delivered the materials the wood was missing. When I queried it they said that they had been waiting a week or so for a delivery of wood? yet failed to mention this when they took my money. On another order from them they missed off vital materials which meant that I had to travel to TP to pick up. No sorry, no apology nothing. Terrible service. I have just returned my last TP order with them and they have refunded me. I will be buying my materials from a local supplier now, that is a little more expensive but offer a much better value and service.

If things don't change I wouldn't be at all surprised to see TP fold. There doesn't seem to be any cohesion with management and staff. From a third party point of view it looks like they kind of wing it and hope nobody notices.

I DO NOT recommend!

Had a deadline on a patio for this weekend, ordered a bulk buy of sand on Tuesday scheduled to arrive on the Wednesday, it never came. Phoned the Poole, Dorset branch and it will apparently arrive today. their excuse" a mix up with paper work" and "sometimes mistakes happen and it just so happened it was with you're order" UNPROFESSIONAL and I have now been put 2 days behind scheduled and last a day and a half of wages when my order only cost £30 in the first place.. £30 turned into £150 unacceptable. will NOT be buying from this company again and will NOT be recommending

what a waste of time.

what a waste of time, i tried to get a quote for some building materials online but it wanted my business name (i am a cash customer) so i rang my local branch (Leyland) gave the list of stuff and was told he would come back to me. guess what you have got it in one still waiting. my order was only for approx £200 but i am giving it to C & W Berry who seem to want my money and are very organised and do ring you back. i only gave one star because that was the least you could give.

Typical builders merchants, some good and some bad.

TP are the Tesco of builders merchants. Their plan, especially in London seems to be to buy up all the other builders merchants, and then they are free to charge what they want as there is no competition. If you are outside the capital the prices can be quite a lot cheaper. A few years ago we did some work in London and it was cheaper to get a mixed load delivered from Cambridge than buy in London.
I find my local branches helpful enough, but even as a trade customer with an account I find that anything we buy that we are not on specific terms for they just charge top dollar for. I have to query between 1/3rd and half of my account invoices every month so as not to be losing quite a bit of money to their overcharging.
Stock levels are usually pretty good and quality is fine.
Best to get prices before you buy.

Fishguard branch is Great!!

I've been finishing building a house recently and found the staff in the office and in the yard extremely helpful and friendly, and they have really made the whole experience (It's been quite a Job) much easier because they have all been so helpful!! I live nearer to another builders yard but drive the extra little bit to use them because of this!! So thanks and top marks Travis Perkins Fishguard!!!

Wadebridge

After waiting 20 mins at the hire desk of the Wadebridge branch while the assistant manager who admitted he didn't know what he was doing tried to hire out 2 de-humidifiers for a customer, I walked out as no one else was interested in helping me. I wanted to hire a carpet cleaner but I will now go to Homebase instead. Could do better, must try harder. Shame 1 star is the lowest rating, it is far too high

excellent service

person in the Sale branch was great, really helpful to what we should need. Only problem is when delivered couldn't put the stuff in exactly the right position, but we got around that
