Trivago are still promoting scam companies such as Clever Hotels

I had an almost identical experience to Danny McDevitt and others below. Booked a hotel in Venice for three nights, through Clever hotels found on Trivago. Turned up at the hotel and presented my prepaid voucher only to be told that they had received my booking but it had been cancelled on the very same day the booking had been made, stating that a company in Spain (that i had no dealings with and did not make the payment to) had gone bankrupt.
Also, the hotel we were supposed to be staying at was fully booked so we had to find another hotel, which meant we lost the whole first day of our holiday as well as the money paid for the original booking.
I tried to call Clever Hotels/Nevelar at the time and a number of times since but they never answer and do not repy to my emails. I have also contacted Trivago through their info@trivago.co.uk email as suggested below but have yet to hear anything back from them.
I think it is incredibly irresponsible of Trivago to continue to promote Clever Hotels when it is clear from other peoples comments and feedback that they are a scam company that take your money and cancel your bookings, with no sign of a refund or any contact.
I would strongly advise people against using Trivago as it is clear that some of the companies they promote are not legitimate and Trivago don't seem to take any action to remove these companies from their site as you can still book through Clever hotels on the site.

Found a good hotel in Paris

I found trivago easy to use - we found a reasonable (but still expensive) hotel in Paris, on the Rue de Louvre. Made final booking with Booking.com. Will be using in future and happy to recommend.

Why do they still keep representing companies that rip people off so often

Booked through clever-hotels which we found on trivago website. We presented our prepaid voucher at the hotel in tenerife. We were told it wasnt booked or paid for, if we wanted a room we would have to pay again. Used our spending money for the week. My parents at home emailed trivago and got no reply. We have rang clever-hotels aka navelar who will not answer calls or emails. A company named smilo were also mentioned on documentation. They said it was not their reference it was navelar. I can still book and pay this company through trivargo even though its a scam company that will destroy peoples holidays and steal their money.

Dear Danny,

I am very sorry to hear about your experience and apologize for the stress it must have incurred.

I also apologize that you were not able to get an email through to us which is most odd-- we reply to every single customer inquiry we receive and take user issues seriously. If you send me your booking details along with the reference to info@trivago.co.uk we can chase this up with the agent to find out what went wrong.

TRIVAGO+CLEVER-HOTELS- NOT CLEVER AT ALL

I am writing in UTTER DESPAIR to you as I booked a holiday in January through a website on Trivago. I chose a hotel with CLEVER-HOTELS.COM and paid in full. For the last week I have been trying to change dates. The clever-hotels.com website advertises a 24 hour customer service helpline in Germanay, but nobody ever answers!! There is no way you can change dates without emailing them, and after 20 emails I have had one response but still...............no changed dates. How can Trivago advertise a company who are so unprofessional, are illegally selling services which dont exist,(reviews I've seen today on their facebook page, twitter and Trip Advisor validate my experiences.. I went online to trip advisor today and saw the reviews for Clever hotels....... All customes paid in full arrived at hotel and hotel not been paid. No replies to emails either. If i cancel today I incur a £120 fee cost. I dont want to cancel all i want to do is change my dates but yet I cant so in order not to lose everything I have to cancel. PLEASE SOMEBODY TELL TRIVAGO TO REMOVE THIS DISGUSTING TRAVEL AGENT from their website.. My credit card company ahve been amazing but cant do anything right now and advise i lose the £120 then they will get the money back for me. I will be using my contacts in the travel industry to write review after review after review about them and my experiences............starting with facebook where we have 30.000 followers between us and where clever-hotels.,com have a page.....................AM APPALLED. I have tried to reach Trivago for help in contacting the agent but after 6 times of not being to send a message which i read below is common I am giving up!! Over to you Trivago if you care enough...............I hope you redeem yourself and help. SEEMS IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN'T GET A MESSAGE THROUGH TO TRIVAGO......STOP SPENDING MONEY ON TV ADVERTS AND START TO REPLY TO YOUR CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!

Poor experience, rip off and many inaccuracies

Booked with trivago and ended up in wrong hotel. Excuse was the one I booked was full and they booked a different hotel Well if the one I booked was full surely I should have been told. Now further to this I was booked into a lower grade horrible hotel and no refund was either offered or given. Trivago and Hotwire.com seem to work on this ethic and I would not recommend them. There are far better booking engines out there, try www.roombookers.co or www.savings-at-hotel.com etc

Dear David,

I am sorry to hear about what happened.

We are not actually a booking site, we are a price comparison website. Your booking will be through a travel agents booking site. Do you know which booking site you used?

If you send me your booking details along with the reference and name of the booking site you used to info@trivago.co.uk we can chase this up with the agent to find out what went wrong. They should be booking you in somewhere at least as good as your original booking.

Kind regards,

Mike

Be careful - many inaccuracies!!

If you read Trivago's FAQs page it freely admits that it occasionally redirects you to a different hotel to the one you selected. What it doesn't say is that it (almost always) changes your requested dates! I learned the hard way, I booked my hotel in London about 6 weeks in advance for what I thought was 29th March and I didn't appreciate until two weeks after, that the date I'd actually booked was 17th February. It was only when I received an email from booking.com on 18th February, asking me to review the hotel, that I checked my reservation email and realised that the dates were wrong. Stupidly, I hadn't checked the dates, I just assumed that the ones that I'd input were the ones that I'd booked!!! Expensive lesson learned, the hotel charged me £113 for a non-arrival and I didn't have a leg to stand on. Since then I've looked at the Trivago website on several occasions and it almost invariably changes the dates that I've selected once I click on a link. It is a most useful price comparison tool but check carefully before making any bookings.

I have paid twice for the same hotel on the same night

I am disappointed at having to resort to this level in order to retrieve what is rightfully mine. I booked a hotel through the Trivago website and notice that on my statement I have been billed twice for the same transaction. The booking Company - ACCORD - have not had the manners to reply to the emails I sent yesterday or this morning and all I am getting from Trivago Support Helpdesk is a number but when asked for my password, which I cannot remember, it refuses to send me a new one. I wold appreciate a prompt reply. Thank you.

Reply from Trivago

Dear Theresa,

I am very sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds like the issue here is either with the Accord website or the booking site you have used (we are just a price search engine).

If you check your credit card statement and booking confirmation e-mail you will be able to see if the booking is direct with Accord, or if it is with an agent. If you need any more help please feel free me to e-mail me at info@trivago.co.uk or uk_support@trivago.zendesk.com.

Alternatively you can contact us via our contact page.

Trivago booked the wrong hotel, then failed to provide refund or any customer support.

I selected and booked 3 nights in a Hotel via Trivago. I then received the booking confirmation for the wrong hotel- in a different part of the city.

I contacted Trivago and the Hotel to inform them of the mistake and the booking was cancelled yet i did not receive a refund or any customer support.

Trivago admitted the mistake but i have not heard from them since.

This was 14 days ago.

Do not use Trivago. I am still trying to get my £250 refunded.

Bad marketing

Somehow annoying robots are posting links to trivago on our website! Pls stop using that form of spam marketing!

Trivago

Prices misleading and incorrect

Booking a room in London for my boss. I was quoted differing prices for Jumeirah Lowndes to stay on Thursday 6 September. The lowest price was £265 through easytobook.com. I proceeded to their information where I entered all my bank details etc. I then noticed it was 265+ taxes taking it to £330.00. This was certainly unclear and and makes me not trust Trivago.

I tried to contact Trivago via their contact form to let them know and it would not let me submit my message.

Reply from Trivago

Dear Lauren,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

All of our quoted booking prices should include all taxes and fees that you would incur on each booking site, and we are sorry to learn this was not the case.

I have forwarded this issue to our technicians for immediate attention; however, please leave some time for the server to refresh with the new link before checking again. You can speed up this process by clearing your cache and refreshing the page/price in question.

Thank you for your feedback and please contact trivago should you have any further issues.

Shocking website

This is the worst case scenario for any website, once you are on it you can't go back!!! Just try pressing the "go back one page" button and they won't let you.....I beg all users to stop using this site until it changes its attitude

Useful website

I had heard about trivago and used it to find hotel offers for my holidays. It was easy and quick to find the ideal hotel with a cheaper price. I was happy to use it!

Smooth Experience

This was the first time I had used trivago.co.uk and certainly I will use them again. It was such a smooth experience both in finding great cheap hotel deals and booking that at once! Great easy and smooth way to proceed on.

It's worth saving the money!

As a previous user of kayak.com I now switched to the - in my opinion - much more developed hotel search engine trivago.co.uk. Unfortunately trivago does not provide a flight comparison, yet (again! as they already had a beta out for that I believe), but I can still use other platforms for that.

So then, why trivago? As a matter of fact, I’m quite a travelling expert and have visited umpteen of countries, cities and of course hotels – or at least buildings that labeled themselves as such. Due to my bad as well as good experience I’m always looking for hotels with good reviews and an overall user satisfaction. I think I can get that from trivago, as they have a strong community behind their site. If I made a bad experience with a “hotel” I always try – of course time is the issue here – to let other users know to just make the site even more useful for other users like me. Of course there are a few areas that are not as well developed yet, I saw that on the other platforms outside UK – there is still a lot of development going on from their side – but I believe it’s going somewhere.

Besides the reviews / ratings I very much like the clean and simple design, the colors of the logo look appealing to me, in general the whole look and feel (also of the TV spot! Have you seen the last one with the bearded guy? Mhhh… sorry ;-)). I also think it’s very intuitive to use.

It’s just great to be able to compare so many different platform just on one site and generally saves a lot time and money– it’s like Google for hotels ;-) Without advertisement, though! Very nice! This makes me feel like the results are independent and not sponsored by certain partners, and that I really get the best price there is and not depending on how much a partner paid for his result to be on top. With the money to save I always give myself a treat – some exceptional dinner or an extra jet-ski ride, more souvenirs…I think you get the point. Why wasting money for getting exactly the same hotel? Try trivago!!!

Thank you trivago for many, many successful hotel findings…and more to come!

very very wide range of hotels!

ok so I have to tell you this: trivago makes my life so much easier! I am very bad in booking the hotel in advance. I know it is bad but know I stopped worrying about this because I have already experienced this a few times when I had to book hotels just a day before going to the other country. It would take ages for me to go through all hotels in booking.com or hotels.com, etc. so I figured out that trivago has all these websites and more, and private hotels on their website!

so now I am not worried to search for the best (last minute) offer in this and that website. I always go to trivago.com and know that all offers will be displayed on their website.! this is awesome!
