I'm a piano teacher in Cornwall whose Old Style Clavinova needed upgrading. I found Graham's advice extremely clear and after carefully considering his reviews and my personal budget, I have been delighted with my new purchase: a Clavinova CLP 440.
I'm very grateful for this free advice that he has so thoughtfully put on the web.
I have to say I have liked playing it. The feel of the key, the stereo system, the build, the look (red wood, it looks damn fine), it's the finest model you can get at a price of 750 pounds. In particular, if you apply for a rent-to-buy program, where you basically buy the piano on installment, your burden will get just eased a bit more! For any beginner or intermediate pianist, this is the one for you. Also, before you make the decision, you may want to consult with Graham. He knows piano.
Oh by the way, the model is Classenti CDP1.
Graham's advice was essential reading for me after a year of mulling over what to buy for my first piano. I went for an electric yamaha in the end. Having spoken to several retailers all with different recommendations, after reading this I felt like I could finally make my own decision based on some knowledge! Thank you UK pianos!
Graham has outstanding knowledge about all things piano and gave me, a complete dunce in all things musical, all the relevant advice and guidance I needed.
I appreciated reading on the web-site about the different types of keyboard. It was very helpful to learn the difference between an electric / electronic piano and an electric / electronic keyboard. I also found it helpful to learn in particular about the differences in length (number of octaves), range of sounds (voices), possibility to add a backing rhythm or layer of sound, memory and replay feature, and the resistance or ease of key motion.
This piano is a beautiful black rosewood finish. It sadly is discontinued. I bought it one year ago in a good music store in Dublin Ireland new for 1000euro(slight discount it was a demo model).Anwyay its introduced as a starter or introductory model but I must say I am very happy with it.The keys have a lovely weighting and my son is doing grade five in his exams and he finds playing this digital piano is not so different from playing his piano teachers acoustic one. We both agree it has a lovely tone. Also for me I like that it is simple to use you can use headphones, turn it down and it has a few demo tracks but that is it. It also is a lovely looking piece of furntiture. So I am happy with it overall.Carmel in Dublin
i had no experience of pianos whatsoever, i looked on the internet for piano reviews,
and found graham howards website, uk pianos, i never expected to find so much
information on one site, the information provided made my mind up on which piano
to buy, i could have bought a piano without this advice, but i wouldn't have felt i was
getting perhaps the right piano for my needs, for me personally, this information has proved invaluable, and i couldn't be happier, although i did buy my piano from
gear 4 music, which was also recommended from uk pianos website. all in all.
i thoroughly recommend this website for information and advice,
I asked questions by e-mail and received very prompt and helpful replies from Graham Howard. Having a comparison of a large number of instruments whose specifications read the same, based on how they actually feel & sound, saved a lot of legwork. We were able to go to the shop and try out several instruments. There was no pressure, no 'only today' offers and a definite feeling that Graham did not want you to buy unless it really matched what was needed.
I've had the Kawai CN34 for about a month. So many different ways to enjoy the different instruments included! I am not, by any stretch, a real down the line pianist. I play mostly by ear and experience, which can sometimes have really interesting results when combining sounds. Having the ability to quickly record little 'ideas' is a big plus. I want to get into the USB to computer capabilities of using the keyboard as a controller for my computer-based DAW software, Reaper. Haven't done that yet, but will in the near future. I do wish that the split keyboard function would also allow for transposing the two keyboard sections differently, but maybe in a future firmware update they'll think about adding that. All-in-all a really purchase decision!
I found the personal and not corporate feel of the UK PIanos site a refreshing change, it made my assessment of what piano was suitable to my needs and budget very easy indeed. It really bridged the gap in technical understanding that a lot of people may lack when choosing a piano for themselves or their family. The rent to buy scheme particularly appealed to me which gave me the chance to try a piano and decide if it was for me or not - and as it turned out the piano was suited to me and I could count the payments I'd already made toward the final purchase price. I found Graham and the staff let me have time in the shop to myself with all the models and were on hand if I had any questions but also left me to myself to get to know the piano I was interested in. I can also say that their aftersales service is excellent too as they responded quickly and thoroughly to a couple of minor problems I encountered.
All in all the whole experience was very positive and i'd recommend UK Pianos to anyone who already plays or who is thinking of playing piano as their service is first class.
Your sincerely. Sean Jackson (St Albans)
Uk Piano's is a great store with a wide range of piano's, catering for all levels and abilities. It's reasonable in price. My piano came in a variety of colours which fitted in as part of my furniture, beautifully. Staff were very helpful, especially Graham.
Graham's Guide is a great tool when contemplating buying a digital piano and Graham was able to answer my many questions on live chat, which was really useful and preferable to waiting for replies to emails.
So happy with my Kawai piano, bought through UK Pianos, the touch and sound are perfect and I can play to my hearts content without disturbing neighbours and family!
I wanted to buy a piano for my wife.
I have no idea about pianos or playing them.
I do know how to research.
I found UK Pianos break down of the key elements of pianos simple to understand and I found the rating system a useful tool to comprehend what I was potentially buying and how to get value for money.
Naturally I researched UK Pianos and Graham Howard as well.
Naturally I found many different attitudes towards UK Pianos and Graham; it is a competitive market place!
Living in Australia, buying a piano from UK Pianos was never going to be an option and yet Graham gave me his time and the benefit of his experience.
A man and a business that shares ideas and promotes the things he loves is surely worth considering if you are looking to buy a piano.
The website with guidance by Graham Howard was invaluable in researching for my daughters piano. It was very helpful and honest on the various brands. When we came to buying from UK Pianos the service was excellent. Highly recommended.
Wanting to buy a first but good piano for both myself and son to learn on took quite a lot of investigating. This site has the clearest and most relevant information you will need to make the right choice based on your budget and requirements. Very pleased with piano purchased and excellent service. Myself and both my children are enjoying learning this new skill with an excellent instrument.

We needed an electric piano for the family to learn on. Choose the Broadway B1 from UK Pianos after a bit of searching,. Service was great and includes on site warranty work if required for 3 years which gives me piece of mind but the piano appears a solid piece of technology. Recommend both shop and manufacturer.

From beginning to end, this was the most unusual and rewarding purchasing experience. First there was Graham's brilliant, free guide to choosing and buying a digital piano (something that few of us have done before). Then there was lots of individual advice on technical queries. Finally, after comparing the market, there was help to secure a good deal with UK Pianos. There was no pressure at all to buy from UKP - it simply happened to be the best option. The icing on the cake was when, having put in an order, a sale was announced. I then realized I could have had a more expensive model at the sale price for not a great deal more than the lesser model I had ordered. A telephone call later, with no hassle at all, the friendly person in the call centre had switched my order to a more advantageous deal. What more can a buyer ask for?
This provides a source of copious amounts of information - helpful if you are just interested in pianos and useful if you are trying to make a decision
Luckily, I live just a few minutes drive from the UK Piano store in Enfield. People are often suspicious when they see a shop with bargains that seem too good to be true so I didn't want to buy until I had visited myself. The showroom is small and cramped - no money is being wasted there. There is an active piano school with classes going on. I also had the opportunity to visit the workshop where it seems Graham and the other staff really know what they are doing. In short, this is a real place with great work ethic. There is no hard sell. The bargains are good because prices are kept to a minimum with no wastage. I am very happy with the Classenti electric piano I bought. The sound is very good and the keyboard has a great feel. I strongly recommend UK Pianos.
I thoroughly studied Graham Howardˇs guide, scores and reviews at ukpianos.co.uk website about digital pianos and these really helped me to choose a suitable piano for my family. Thanks for all the information I was able to find about digital pianos on your website.
Graham's Guide to Digital Pianos was a huge help when looking for a piano for my daughter. It's the most easy to use and informative guide - we took Graham's advice and avoided making a costly mistake. Even though we ended up buying a digital piano privately we wouldn't have had the confidence in knowing the market without Graham's most useful guide.
I found UK Pianos a very useful source to determine what I should be thinking about when considering buying a digital piano. Questions were answered promply although a little bit brief and direct to a particular piano which, given the number of pianos out there, was a bit surprising. Overall a very useful resource.
UKPianos has an extensive list of ratings and recommendations. After reading reviews and responses, I finally decided on a digital piano and am currently very satisfied by it. I would recommend Graham's honest advice on piano selection to anyone interested in purchasing a DP.
Well, you can see for them is not only their job, it's their passion as well ! They know their stuff, they give you good advice, even their little guide for free, and they are always willing to try helping out. And in some cases, they can even arrange for you to pay by monthly instalments, so it's more affordable, and if you are in UK, a rent-to-buy scheme - basically, they can cover any kind of need. And if they give you advice, it's not about trying to sell you always the most expensive solution - if they think it's better for you, they will propose you a cheaper solution, even if it's not in their financial interest.
I was attracted to Graham's website because of the fantastic buying guide that enabled me as a non piano playing parent make the right buying decision. Once I knew the specification it was easy to select the right piano from a very extensive selection at the right price.
Once we had decided to buy the piano, it arrived in perfect condition and was very easy to assemble. Many happy playing hours later....
