Excellent buy !!!

Graham provided me with the anwsers to my queries, which were very helpful in deciding which ones of the short listed pianos I would buy. The choice was particularly tough, as I wanted to buy a piano for my daughter who is a beginner, but at the same time, would last her upto grade 8.

Thanks to the advise from Graham, I am very happy with my Roland HP504, and am looking forward to using the piano.

An honest Piano salesman, who'd have thought it.

I found UK piano's by accident after researching digital pianos; I'm so glad I did! I've spent the afternoon reading through Graham's free e-book, at 75 pages long it gave me in depth advice on what to look for when buying a digital piano. I would most certainly recommend it to any one who is due to buy a digital piano or keyboard; I'm definitely going to purchase a digital Piano from UK Pianos, when I've made up my mind. It's Graham's fault; he gives you so much information. Also, they have a rent to buy scheme, which gives you chance to try the piano before you buy.

Howard Score is Incredibly Comprehensive Research on Digital Pianos on Market

Mr Howard has been doing very well job researching digital pianos on market and scoring them based on touch and sound. Even better, he combined his score with each digital piano price. It makes my job easier to find the best value of digital piano. My previously hour of searching particular digital pianos seems redundant. His research save a lot of time.

Efficient helpful service - can't fault them!

I'd already decided which piano to buy, noticed online that UK pianos offered it for a competitiive price, and called them to talk about delivery options. They were incredibly helpful and efficient, order duly placed and arrived on the day arranged. We bought the YDP162B and are delighted with it - it looks good, sounds good, and is perfect for my daughter and I who are both learning to play.

How Web Sales & Service Should Be Done

Coming back to pianos of a 20 year gap proved daunting. My initial thought was to shop locally and support Somerset business. Unfortunately my email enquiries went unanswered!

I then came across Graham Howard and UK Pianos. I did have some initial concerns from comments dating back a good few years but these were allayed by Graham's quick responses, very helpful guidance and his no pressure sales approach.

The website may not be the slickest around but for me that gave some comfort that I was dealing with people and not a system.

I confirmed my order at about 1430 and my new Yamaha CLP 480PE arrived the very next day complete with a very helpful courier!

I can confidently highly recommend UK Pianos and I will not hesitate to go back when I look for an acoustic.

Quality Piano

I discovered UK pianos whilst searching the net confused as to which digital piano I should purchase. The guide was extremely helpful, informative and objective. Initially, I opted for the Classenti CDP3 as I wanted to create the look of an upright piano. However, after reading the reviews elsewhere I was a little worried about the potential sound quality.

I bought the Yamaha Clavinova CLP430. The customer service I received after placing the order on line was poor. I received no contact from the shop regarding delivery . The amount was swiftly taken out of my account and didn't hear anything for a while. Upon raising the concern I spoke to Graham who then put things in motion and I received the piano in a few days as promised. The website states fast delivery but when I questioned this I was told I had to wait for a delivery van to be in my area.

The piano quality is fantastic, it was delivered as stated and was easy to assembly. It was definitely the right choice and am delighted with it. Overall, the piano guide was an excellent source to decide upon the correct digital piano and would recommend it as a way to discover the correct piano for you. Just the lack of communication spoilt my overall experience.

Excellent service

I wanted to change my acoustic piano, which I've had for 36 years, for a digital one because it would let me play at any time of day or night without disturbing my flatmates of the neighbours. I tried out a few in various shops and found the Yamaha CLP 480 to be the one I liked the most. I found UK Pianos to be the most approachable, friendly and helpful shop, so that's where I bought it. After ordering it on the Monday, it was delivered to me on Thursday of the same week. Excellent service.

A pleasant purchasing experience !

I recently bought Yamaha YDP-162 Digital Piano for my son from UK Pianos.
The purchase was straightforward, we had a quick decision having studied the range of pianos and market in advance. UK Pianos offered a rate at par with internet and other stores in London but also included 5 Years warranty and a decent stool in the package.
The delivery was included in the package and the goods arrived timely as promised.
Thank you UK Pianos !

Good service, comprehensive choice of pianos

Good service - lots of useful information available to help with choosing a piano.
Shop a little over-crowded due to the large range of pianos on display.
Would recommend to anyone looking to buy a piano.

howard score best tool I have seen in evaluating digital pianos

So many brands/models digital pianos out there, and as with all technology, even the best ones are obsolete in a year or two. As Graham Howard says, each store will be selling only a couple of brands, so it is impossible to do any kind of one-stop comparison. So, a scoring system such as GH's, offered for free, from a disinterested but knowledgeable and conscientious party, is a real gift. Since I look at the Howard Score because I myself am NOT an expert, I am in no position to say whether it is accurate or not. However, if you look at how he chooses and details the criteria, and just the general intelligence of the whole thing, it seems to be of a superior quality. It is great that he is also providing prices so that one can see what brands may tend to be overprice across all models, ... a real eye opener. I have yet to find the ideal piano "solution". As one who plays mostly classical music, but wants the ability to practice freely, never mind the people on the other side of the wall (ie., headphones) and also all the fantastic digital recording and multi-tracking capabilities for my pop forays, my way of dealing with the mess is to have two pianos... one digital, one analog, the analog (a 1923 Mason Hamlin baby grand) falling far short of the kinds of concert grands that are sampled for the grand piano modes on the digital piano, and the digital being the kind that has the supposed grand piano action, with the weighted wooden mechanism and all that. Is not perfect, but is the best I can afford. Classical piano teacher always says, "will you PULLLEEEEASE lose that digital piano... THAT's not a PIANO ... and shell out for a serious grand piano..." But I am too broke to ever do that, not least because that would require another big impossible shell-out for a properly conditioned room in which to keep it. So the digital piano... a godsend, assuming that the action/responsiveness is close enough to that of a "real" piano. And the Howard Score gives its detailed attention to that very thing (in contrast to all the bla bla you will get about the samplings etc. that you will get from any other query on digital piano comparisons), so is very helpful.

Useful and comprehensive advice with no pressure to buy!

I had initially decided that, based on reviews from UK Pianos, Graham's advice and other reviews it was likely I would go for a Yamaha and with a potential budget up to £1000 maximum, felt I could get a reasonable one. I eventually chose a Kawai. - I work in Leeds every day so went to a music shop local to my workplace (Production Room http://www.production-room.com/categories/358/Digital-Pianos/ ) that advertised they sold Yamahas and specifically the YDP162 that I was interested in. While the lady who attended to me was very helpful, making me a cup of tea, playing the pianos for me so I could hear them from a distance etc., I was disappointed to find out, however, that in their showroom they only had a more expensive model (sorry, can't remember which one) so I tried that. I compared it to a Casio which was the only other comparable model they had in. I wasn't impressed with either. The Yamaha's keys didn't 'feel' right to my touch and the Casio had a 'hollow' sound, but a better key touch. So I left without a purchase.
- I visited a second Leeds store that day in the town centre (Dawsons http://www.dawsons.co.uk/keyboards-pianos/digital-pianos ). The sales person here was helpful at first and they had a YDP162 in that I could try. He also suggested I tried a Kawai which, helpfully, was set up right next to the Yamaha in a bit of a Rick Wakeman keyboard stylie! That meant I could try them both in quick succession to compare the keyboards, sound etc. I used your checklist on them both which was really helpful. I tried the Yamaha first and it actually felt better than the previous more expensive one. Then I tried the Kawai, not expecting much to be fair, and was astounded at how full the sound was, particularly as you went down the keyboard into the bass stave. I spent a good half hour going backwards and forwards between the two trying to find a way that the Yamaha would be better, but I just couldn't. In the end I was decided, at £100 cheaper than the Yamaha, the Kawai was a clear winner. This is where things then got a bit disappointing. I asked the sales person who by now was starting to look and sound a bit frazzled (though the shop wasn't that busy) what came with the piano. He said nothing - just the piano. I asked him about delivery. They charged for delivery - he thought about £20 but couldn't give me any indication if they had any in or when delivery might be. At this point I said thanks and left - I was not going to give them my business.

I went home and started to research the Kawai - just in case. I found (as already stated) OK reviews of the KDP80, but glowing ones for the KDP90 - backing up everything I had found from playing it. I then researched prices and found that everywhere (including ukpianos) charged £799 but there were variations on what else you could get. Most offered a 'bundle' of a stool and headphones; a couple of other offered interest free credit; there was a little variety on warranty, but nothing too much.

In the end I chose Bonners for a couple of reasons:

- I rang them and they were incredibly courteous and helpful, even though I indicated there was no guarantee I would buy from them but I was just enquiring.
- Their website is well built and easy to navigate and gives the information you need.
- Their bundle included free delivery, the stool, headphones and 3 year warranty, but also interest free credit over 12 months with a small 10% deposit and quick delivery. This meant I could have a brand new digital piano in my home before Christmas at around £60 a month. Their on-line credit application was simple and very quick (turned round completely from start to finish in 48 hours as they advertise) and they confirmed, by phone, acceptance of my ID documents on Saturday morning and delivery date of Friday 20th December. They also kept in contact with me via email while the process was going through. The piano was ordered and delivered within a week, just in time for Christmas, and has so far lived up (if not exceeded) all my expectations. I'm incredibly impressed with Bonners as a supplier.

I appreciate this is supposed to be a review of UK Pianos - which it sort of is as it was through their unbiased and no pressure advice I was able to thoroughly compare pianos and find the deal that best suited me. I certainly found their guide helpful and used all the tests they recommended. But I do have a couple of suggestions for UK Pianos:

- Website: it looks a bit old fashioned and not very professional; they may want to consider a revamp
- Reviews: keep them up to date, particularly on new models when they come out; the reviews of the KDP80 could put people off the KDP90 which would be a shame as I think it's a great piano

Flawless

UK Pianos are very easy to approach, their advice was really helpful, they do not want to rip you off (they recommended a cheaper product which would suit my needs better than the more expensive one), the delivery was on time, the price was good . The only thing I cannot comment on is their 5year warranty as I haven't used it yet. Overal I am really pleased with the purchase and I wish every company was like them.

Yamaha YDP162 Piano

Ordering over the phone was very easy. The lady who took the order was very efficient and pleasant. That's quite a change these days with some companies! Delivery was effected on the correct day and the rather large box placed in the back of my estate car for convenience. Assembling the piano was quite easy, just a screwdriver and another pair of hands to lift the keyboard safely onto the base. My 8 year old grand-daughter couldn't wait to try it. She has played it every day since! Some Christmas Present eh? As to the piano itself, I regret that I don't play, but I know the sound of a good piano, and this together with Graham Howard's e-book (you must read it!) made the choice easy. It is covered by the 5 year guarantee, which I hope we'll never need. My only downside to this, you do need to switch it off at the wall-socket, as the little power supply is in the mains lead. Not a problem, just needs to be remembered!
