Date of incident: 08/07/13 Location: Chadderton area of Oldham.
The other day a united utilities van came steaming up behind me in a 20 mph zone, dipping his clutch and revving his engine. From the rear view mirror all I could see was a pair of headlights flashing at me and the van swerving to see if he could get past me. I stopped and asked the "driver what's the rush?" His reply was " your doing 20 mph you dic**ead" I shouted " it's a 20 zone you Pratt" after 2 mini roundabouts he decides he's overtaking me and the car on the other side of the road had a near miss with the speeding van.
Now luckily my partner took a picture of the van as it overtook us in the most dangerous way possible and after zooming in we had all of the registration number. Sorry mate but I'm gunna have to report you! You are a danger to others and your self! By the way there was a school in that 20 mph zone.
I called united utilities and told them what happened and gave all the relevant information. In the morning I got a call back from a member of his management to let me know they has located the driver and that he will be delt with by the full force of the companies disciplinary procedure. He is in breach of company policy and they take this matter very seriously as its dangerous and not good PR for the company.
At the end of the conversation he asked if there was anything that united utilities could do for me to make the problem go away? Hmmmm let me think.
Every year, for the past eleven years, I have paid my water bill over a few months. Every year United Utilities have sent me dozens of threatening letters and made dozens of threatening phone calls. I have written to them and phoned them, but I get nowhere. This year will be no different. Why can they not communicate? Why have they no email address? Why do they waste so much money?
