Bought 2 dinner sets and money instantly taken off my credit card. No delivery on estimated date so contacted them by email. They replied that the goods were out of stock with no new deliveries expected and totally unsuitable alternatives offered.I asked for refund and was told it had been sorted. Several emails sent advising refund not received - no reply. I rang and was told a manual payment would be arranged and I asked for a call from a manager to explain why they had taken my money for goods that they didn't have but were being so difficult about the repayment. Payment received 3 days later but still no call from manager.
The short of the long is that we ordered a bed that was advertised as next day delivery and as it fell over the Christmas holidays we didn't mind if it only came at the start of January.
After countless e-mails and phone calls and delivery dates that we waited at the house with nothing to show, we received the bed on the 1st of February. This is after we directly contacted the supplier only to hear from him that he never had the bed in stock and that it was only arriving in the country on the 31st of January. They firstly didn't tell us the truth. And secondly they didn't offer us any compensation for the discomfort of being without a bed so long. They offered us a refund, but that would have been no help at all, since we couldn't go to another company and wait another few weeks for a bed. Very dissapointed and has made us wary of shopping from internet shops. We have never been let down like this before. P.S. The bed arrived with the wrong set of screws. So we had to go to Homebase to buy the right screws and ended up taking the whole day to set it up.
Very impressed with this company! I dont usually purchase large items online as i cant trust them! But i took a chance and ordered a console table from this company and it got delivered the very next day!! Fab service, had a few questions about the console table before i bought it and received answers straight away! Really happy with the item, arrived well packaged and will definately be using Variete again!

Telephoned the 0800 contact number, was informed by young lady "don't know what the problem is. will get someone to call or email you straight back"
I'll come back and let you all know how it ends, but so far NOT GOOD.
I made an order for what seemed to be good quality goods, at an acceptable price to be delivered for Christmas. I had a response from Variete thanking me for my order and stating that the goods would shortly be delivered. 2 days later I had another email stating that the order had been closed, without any further explanation. The goods never arrived, Christmas was somewhat empty and no charge was made.
We brought a set of table and chairs from this company at the start of August 2012 costing nearly £1000. Before they had even arrived we had a call from variete to change the chair style. When they did arrive the table was damaged and the chair colour and wood pattern did not even match. To complain and get items changed they have only got an email system that takes them ages to reply. Once they did reply all they wanted to do was replace the table (not acceptable). When they agreed to change them it took ages for new items to arrive, this involved me nearly every week having to try to contact them. You can call the sales department, but never got the same person and they always promised to look into the problem and call you back, but guess what? They never did. The email system to contact them is a joke as the never answered me back, when they did they kept promising estimated delivery date that came and went. When I finally decided that I wanted my money back, my new table and chairs just so happened to have came into stock that day. This whole process took 5 months to get my furniture; there has been no sign of an apology for all the trouble of any sort, either verbal, written or financial for all my time and trouble. I would never use them again and would advise people to shop else where.
I ordered a bedstead from this company on the 11 December, and emailed them to ask them if they could deliver on the 12 or 13 after 3.30pm or else anytime on the 14th. Got an email back to say time specific wasn't possible so they booked me in for the 14th. I sat at home all day, and called variete in the morning to be told that it would be delivered between 9am to 5pm. At 3pm still no sign so I decided to call and ask for the contact details of the company. Was given same, tracked it online to show that a delivery had been attempted, nobody was home and a card was left! I had been at home all day, no card was left and no phone call was made to me! The delivery company they use are dreadful, the guy who would not put me through to a manager, advised me that a manager would eventually call me back to tell me the same thing.
So I then called variete back, spoke with a guy who advised me that there wasn't anything more he could do and that i'd now have to wait to the Monday to have it delivered. Said it was not good enough as I needed it asap and took the day off work for it, then spoke with his Manager. The Manager advised me she would call to see if it was possible to have them deliver it in the evening. It was 4.50pm and no call from the Manager still, bearing in mind it's a Friday evening and variete closes at 5pm, therefore I called again and she answered the phone, so I have my doubts if she really is the Manager. She advised me she couldn't get them to deliver it so I would have to wait to Monday. I advised her I needed it before then, and therefore if I went out and bought one would she refund me. She said she would make a decision to refund the carrier fee when it was returned however I could have a refund for the bedstead. I explained to her she was a manager and why is she not capable of making a decision to refund it in it's entirety as there was no logic behind her behaviour but she would not budge on it. She also said she could not contact the courier and have them return it, that I would have to refuse delivery. Therefore I was left in the dark as to whether or not she would actually refund it. I asked to speak to her Manager only to be told that she only works Tuesday to Thursday so would have to wait to then! Also told it was not possible to have her email address!
Afterwards I went online to discover that the courier offer a saturday delivery service which has to be booked through the company who sent the goods, I don't know why the Manager did not offer this as an alternative, maybe because she did not want to spend the extra money. Also noticed that their warehouse was nearby and I could pick it up anytime up to 9pm, again this was not pointed out to me. In the end I drove to the warehouse and picked up the goods myself.
I will never do business with variete.co.uk ever again, i have just moved home and have quite a lot of furniture to buy, however I most definitely will not be choosing this company and courier service again.
I strongly dispute the comment which variete have added. I was present all day at my property, and the bell was never rung, nor was a delivery card left in my mailbox. Furthermore variete did not rearrange for the courier to go back out to me the same day, I picked this up from the courier depot at 7pm and fitted it in my car and the delivery record proves this!
Was sent an update email on my delivery date.Took a day off work. waited until afternoon and telephoned the delivery company and to my shock. they did not have the product. I phoned Variete and they told me it was still with them. I then ask when could it be delivered, they said Monday or tuesday. So I have taken Monday off from my work. So 1st thing I did this morning was Tel Variete on my delivery status. I had to tel them the consignment number and they said they don't know the status of my product.
I have been very patient up to now. 2 days holiday from my work could be more and this Company does not have a clue what there doing..
No reply from emails sent.
No telephone call back
Please avoid this company.

Delivery is not very soon but still it was quite a smooth deal. I am happy about the purchase. Only shame is the quality. It's called Sol dressing table for about 75 pounds. Variete has very good price but when I installed them, I found the bottom of the draws are only very thin flimsy board and it is not solid pine to me, more like veneer wood, unstable and very light too. but maybe other companies are selling the same quality. it is the shortcoming of online shopping.

I ordered a pair of smoked glass and marble tables from the variete.co.uk website. When they arrived they were damaged, the packaging was very poor and the delivery driver just dumped them in the outer cupboard without a signature.
I telephoned the freephone number which is just an office, and was told to email the CS department (address on website). Well I have emailed them and they replied to the first email saying they would look into it. After a further 3 emails I have yet to have my problem resolved. I am now going to put the matter into the hands of my credit card company.
This is the first time I have had a problem with online shopping and I have bought hundreds of items over the years. It is going to be interesting to hear their reply.

I ordered an item which had a 10-15 working days estimated delivery on it. Checked repeatedly with their customer service it would be delivered within that timeframe as it was child's birthday present. It didn't arrive in time & I had to chase the company, being told different information about the status of my order until it eventually arrived. Courier was supposed to call to arrange a date for delivery. No arrangement was made and the large item was just left outside our house on the pavement. I wrote a letter of complaint to their MD 14 days ago, which the company has confirmed they have received, but I've had no response. The worst customer service I've experienced from a online shopping company.
I ordered an item. Only part of it arrived. It took months before the remainder of the order arrived. It was a wardrobe so we had two-thirds of a triple wardrobe clogging up my kids bedroom for over 2 months. We were offered a 30% discount for the inconvenience but 4 months on they still won't actually pay out the refund. This company has been removed from [link] for poor service. Check out their reviews there. There is a similar story to my own. Do yourself a favour and give Variete a miss, they really aren't worth the hassle.

The lies and excuses are endless.
