I have to travel far to find my nearest Waitrose as I live near Pickering, North Yorkshire. There is one in York, and one at Willerby near Beverley. I have also been to the branch in Harrogate. I love the system where you pick up a hand scanner and scan each item as you place it in your shopping bag. Then before leaving the store you can pay without queueing. A lot of people think that Waitrose is prohibitively expensive, but I totally disagree. Yes, there is a lot of quality food and with this comes a higher price, but a lot of everyday items are the same price or less compared to the 'big three' supermarkets. As long as you stay in control and don't let too many luxury items seduce you then you will not be shocked when you pay. In York, which I have now adopted as my local store, the staff are so cheerful and helpful. It comes across that they actually want to be there and like helping people, which is not true of some of the other supermarkets. I have to negotiate a lot of traffic to get to Waitrose in York (Foss Islands Road) but it is well worth it. I highly recommend Waitrose, I just wish there was one nearer.
