Wix.com is great. I love their website builder, it has to be the most easiest website builder I have ever used. To actually drag an object to the exact location you want it on your page is what I call absolute freedom! The only thing I don't like about Wix is their prices, I find $15.95 per month for their unlimited plan a bit pricey. But it's OK though cause I get my Wix websites hosted somewhere else and I get the unlimited plan for $4.48 per month. I've been using Wix for 3 years and never had a single problem. So I have no complaints :)
I've read a lot of awful reviews here. I've had a webiste with Wix.com for about 6 months and it has been working quite well. I was with webs.com before and believe, Wix.com are MUCH better and MUCH more reliable!
I haven't noticed that my website was down during those 6 months, the apps/widgets are working fine but there's 1 thing that kills me:
YOU CAN'T USE YOUR HOSTED SPACE AS YOU WISH!!!!! Which means that when you upload an image, you can't get the direct link of it, that means that you can't upload any files you want (which is really stupid) etc... So the space allocated to you for your uploads is pretty much useless! That drives me CRAZY! It is such a stupid approach for a website builder, I can't believe this.
I have decided to pay monthly for now, even though it's more expensive than paying yearly, because I want to make sure that this is worth my money. It's not quite yet, but it's much better than my past experiences.
I never ever leave reviews anywhere, as a matter of fact this is my first review. This company went far beyond my patience level. They do not seem to understand how painful it is to loose all the hours and hours of work you do to make your website look nice to find it at the end to change to versions that were made on 1st day of you editing the site and their support do not seem to care, all you get is a standard apology and "please make sure you save your work". I do save my work, I save it ten thousand times. They do not seem to want to find problems with their tools, they do not even try to understand what happened. This is the worst customer service and the most unstable platform I've seen and I've used. You cannot build a reliable website with this platform, my content keep changed whenever it wants to whatever it wants. I probably would not write this review if customer support was helpful and tried to resolve it, but this is not the case, which drives me mad. Save yourself your nerves, do not go with them.
They entice you in by offering beautiful, free templates for personal or business use after which you can publish if you purchase a domain. Once you gain trust in the company they do a 180. After a few laboring hours you finish your lovely site and pay for your own domain to publish your site, they DO NOT let you publish it. Instead, you have to update to premium (additional $$$)!
They add fees for everything after this once you realize you have paid for the domain already, playing with you like you are a puppet on a string!!! I paid two payments and somehow I still have no site up. Of course there are no refunds once you make the first payment, so yeah, you're screwed. Read below how one Wix employee replied to a frustrated customer saying "Did you think the shopping cart was free? We didn't say it was." Unbelievable.
I jumped through their hoops to shut my account down. I guess I didn't shut it down correctly or something?...2 months later and they're still charging my credit card! Had to dispute the charges with my CC company. Just beware that they make it extremely difficult to quit the service and "hide" the cancelation process in your account...at least that's my experience.
I've read quite a few damning reviews here, but I love the drag and drop editor so much, I took the risk and built a site with Wix. I've been guilty too of being negative when things didn't work as I expected, but perseverance has paid off. Most often I found it was a fault at my end that I couldn't see straight away. The support is a bit distant, unfriendly even, and it sometimes feels like staff are copying and pasting from FAQs. All in all, I'm very impressed with the ease of use and outstanding features. Remember that people are more likely to write a negative response than positive because if they're happy, they're less likely to take the time to post a review. However, if you're good and mad, you're on the keyboard pronto. Well done Wix, keep this thing going. It's the future of web design.
IT HAS BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE SO FAR. THANK YOU WIX, ITS NOW SO EASY TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL WEBSITE WITHIN DAYS. UNLIKE OTHER USERS' BAD EXPERIENCE, I DIDNT EXPERIENCE LAG IN THE EDITOR. IT SAVES PROMPTLY AND I LOVE THE FLEXIBILITY! WHAT I THINK CAN BE IMPROVED ON: 1. ENABLE THIRD PARTY PAYMENT CHECK OUT OPTION - INTERNET BANKING/CASH ON DELIVERY. 2. ENABLE CLIPPER ON POLYVORE TO WORK ON WIX 3. FASTER REFRESH TIME (IT TAKES LIKE 2-5 SECS TO LOAD ONE PAGE) 4. ALLOW HTML/LINKS ON PRODUCT DESCRIPTION. 5. ALLOW 'COMPLETE THE LOOK" MATCH WITH OTHER PRODUCTS ON EACH PRODUCT PAGE. 6. ZOOM IN OF THE PRODUCT IMAGES.
OTHER THAN THAT, I AM BY FAR A HAPPY CUSTOMER OF WIX. THANK YOU WIX!
In the beginning (Dec 2012)...I complained about access and page refresh speeds on both the Editor and actual built website sides and as always, the Reps at Wix.com had their 3x5 card replies that it HAD to be in the individual user's internet "hops" to the Wix server and that in no way could it be on their side...
Well, for the last 6-7 months, I have just sat back and watched the numerous complaints on in through my subscribed email notifications, which on a daily basis is in the order of 5-20 email (complaints)...
So, today 17 Nov 2013, I decided to check and logged into my account and just doing a SIMPLE task like moving ONE sub-folder up ONE place in the PAGES TREE, is an impossibility...get the swirling little wheel and the constant, do yo want to stop the script or continue...
Nothing has changed in 11 months...
I can see the benefit on a business level for Wix Co....get 1 million paid subscribers...keep replying to the numerous complaints by reading off of the 3x5 card, as instructed by Wix management, refund the little that needs to be...which I would assume to be far less than 1%...and laugh all the way to the bank...
If it were not for the FACT, that it is NOT my internet connection or hops speed since I can access any and ALL sites all over the world with no problems and at lightning speeds, EXCEPT for the Wix system...YEAH...you're right...the problem MUST be on my side...
For anyone contemplating starting a website...check around first...and by all means, set up a free account with Wix also, so that you can compare...BUT....do NOT go for the PAID Wix system until you have tested, reviewed and verified all of your options...
I have dabbled with wordpress trying to build a website for months without ever really getting what I wanted. Finally decided to try an online builder, and chose wix because of the incredible amount of options and flexibility they offer. Plus the html 5 looks awesome and highly professional. I upgraded to the premium to use my own domain name, and cant say enough about how pleased I am with the results! I found them helpful when I needed assistance, and the site performs flawlessly. Plus, I was able to incorporate various apps like forms and html blocks that give me the ability to put just about anything into my site. I am incredibly happy with the results, and now I have a site that I operate and no longer have to try to get some webmaster to make changes every time I want to update, change, or add a picture. I see a lot of negative reviews but my experience has been nothing but excellent. Keep up the good work, wix!
I made one website with random problems I dismissed it because it was free. That was a test my next site was the one I was going to upgrade with. I did about 10 hours of work half way done than suddenly the program just shut off. It turn my computer off and on. So immediately you must guess I scan my computer for virus. The program became unresponsive when trying to edit. I like to give people chance scan my computer went on netflix, any video player I had, all my other site gave noooo problem playing at all so I went back on WIX and lo and behold crashed my system. Luckily my computer can block ridiculous viruses and bugs.(I assume that is the problem) WIX should do better you have beautiful templates. I was resistant to going else where because made it easy for a person like me who needed something ASAP but what's the use if there is nothing to present when the site is not allowing me to edit. I'm sure I'll get an apology for customer's service like all the others but it still a problem and i must go elsewhere. Sorry. I really wish the project could have been completed in one swoop. And shout out to the employees that are posting good reviews... it's obvious you're doing this because the sentence content is pretty much the same as the support service that is responding to these negative reviews. Which is worrying me the more on the ethics of WIX. (Really suspicious). Hmmm sounds like damage control to me. Anyway, I am forgiving so if the problems are fixed my go back because you guys did make it easy for something I needed ASAP but too bad I couldn't use it or even finish editing. It just simply froze. :(((
Aaaah the most frustrating program I have ever had the misfortune to work with. I have been working with Wix for over 3 months now and so much time has been wasted re correcting elements which suddenly changed overnight - text, boxes etc. That was annoying BUT NOW over 50 lists I spent a long time creating + researching the information to put in the lists - have disappeared with Wix not being able to offer any kind of explanation. This happened at a time that we were showing the site to potential advertisers, you can imagine how bad it looks showing someone to pay to advertise on a site with obvious mistakes/ empty spaces.
I could go on but bottom line Wix might be just about adequate if you want to put some family photos on a website.... FOR ANY BUSINESSES FORGET IT!! Each time I log on and look at the site, I m wondering what else might have disappeared. What's the point of having a website where your content is not secure because the program is so unstable.
Scrolling down and looking at other reviews (seeing alot of 1 stars!!) and Wix's semi automated responses (similar to their technical support) - I ll be interested to see what excuse Wix come up with for losing so much content from my site!
Also most of the positive reviews below seem to come from designers using Wix (more than likely with no coding/HTML skills) with an obvious vested interest in giving Wix good reviews or people who have just used the program for a couple of weeks!!
Don't waste your time with Wix!! It's not a scam persay (hence the 2 stars instead of 1), but let's just say you get what you pay for - a waste of time. [External reference] or [External reference] are much better options for small business. I wasted 6 months on Wix and can't really think of a week that I was satisfied (beyond my first two weeks of excitement). This was bad for business considering I run a crane company. While I won't list every problem, the final straw when I went to save hours worth of updates and the 'system crashed... hours of work right down the drain. When I finally canceled after 6 months, they tried billing me again on my one year anniversary!! That was just insult to injury. There are much better options - [External reference], [External reference], [External reference], etc. Wix was a waste of time. The tools were junk, the picture albums were disorganized - it was a mess. Not worth the couple bucks a month. (Almost forgot to mention... if you're looking to sync your Pinterest account with Wix so you can let web surfers see your work... just forget it. Wix has a problem with that too. So frustrating!!!!)
I have had it up to here with this service! I have never in all my business career worked with such a misleading entrapment enticing company! You get people to attach apps etc do HOURS UPON HOURS of work and then at the end say oh by the way to finalise this you must upgrade to such and such.. I am paying a lot of money already and am a PREMIUM member and still i must pay more for a 'cart', i checked before hand and it is free to premium members but upon completion of my store after yet more hours of catalogueing, product reviews and store design and creation i must buy the Ecommerse package. IF I AM UNABLE TO USE THE FEATURE ON MY ALREADY EXPENSIVE LEVEL OF MEMBERSHIP, PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW ME TO ATTACH THE APP AND DO THE WORK IN THE FIRST PLACE, I AM RUNNING A BUSINESS HERE. I think we all know why you do it this way and frankly it is very unethical.
Just started using wix to build a site focused on the photogenic side of women with questionable morals, and I love it. I have no background in coding, but found wix easy to use and helpful in building my site through a step by step guide. I found the content easy to upload and display, something I had trouble with before when I tried to build through a 1&1 / wordpress offering.
I have had a premium account with Wix for over a year. When it came to renew my account they asked for updated banking details which were supplied. The money was then taken out of my account, but the site drpaulroos.com now goes to the wix site.
I have been using Wix free for two weeks now. The selection of starter templates was excellent, and very extensive. (It took me about 45 minutes to look them over and decide on one.) The HTML 5 editor has a very short learning curve, and it allowed me to quickly adapt and modify the template in any way I desired. Really. There is no rigid structure to a template. You can delete, add, move, and customize every element in it, and modify the underlying design to your heart's content. IMO, it truly is a drag-and-drop WYSIWYG editor that has a fantastic selection of tools that covers every aspect of page design I needed. I had my web site up and running in about five hours. Since then, I've found it very easy to update and maintain.
Regarding the negative reviews about Wix support: I found the answers to all my questions in their beginner's guide and FAQ. I did not have to use customer support.
