Our beloved 15 year-old AEG washing machine packed in and was irreparable, so we shopped around for a new one. ElectricShop offered the best deal, online. Being machine-less, of course, we needed to know how quickly they could deliver to the DD9 post code, which is between the cities of Dundee and Aberdeen. So I called their office on a Sunday. I was told that the best they could promise was that it would be with us a week on Tuesday, at the latest, i.e. up to 9 days; probably before then. And they said someone would call when it was scheduled, so we could make sure one of us was at home. Well, in fact it took twice as long: 18 days. And they blamed us for not being near the home phone or being out of cellphone coverage at work. Apparently, if you don't answer the phone and accept the date offered there and then, the van can be full and you have to wait another whole week! They even said we could have had it delivered just two days after ordering, which they hadn't previously offered as an option! In the end we had to get a neighbour to take it in, as we were both away on business that week. Then I had to get help to move the very heavy machine to our house. At least, now, the backlog of washing is under control and we are thrilled with our new AEG machine.
I discovered CPC over 3 years ago and I use them a lot, both for home and work. They bombard you with endless paper catalogues, but the offers inside them are usually very good. Unfortunately, their website is a bit clunky and their standard prices not so competitive, so I often end up at Amazon instead. My main concern about CPC is that I have had a good few dud products from them: products that either don't work at all or which break down soon after installation. Therefore I am not convinced their QA people try out products or new suppliers before unleashing them on their customers. Fortunately, I have always found their customer service department to be excellent and they take products back without quibbling. Watch out for being put on hold, however, because it is a premium rate line and you can jack up a bill larger than the value of the small item you are sending back!
