I was very wary of buying from blindsuk.net initially as a few things seemed to shout 'beware' - a low-prices company that doesn't use the phone, and insists on being contacted only by email over the website? Sounds extremely dodgy to me. I wasn't sure if I would ever hear from them again if I ordered, let alone if I had any problems. The website is very messy and confusing. However, I was seduced by the cheap prices so took the plunge.
I had quite a few blinds to order, of different types, but decided to test them out by ordering just one small roller blind for the bathroom. It arrived very quickly, all the parts were there, and it was easy to fit. I've since ordered twice more since then. All blinds have been great, including a roman blind in their more expensive range which doesn't look cheap at all and runs smoothly - it has been used twice a day for a year, including by my kids who are sometimes not exactly gentle with it. With one of the blinds I asked, through the website, for a different safety mechanism after it had arrived, and I got a very fast reply, then the item arrived a couple of days later in the post.
Very pleasantly surprised and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
I ordered a mattress and a bed frame from Childrensbedworld.co.uk. They arrived quickly, just as I was going out in a hurry, so I didn't have time to check them over straight away. When I did, sadly they looked like they had been packed in about 10 seconds by a not very well-trained chimp.
The mattress was the wrong one - supposed to be a proper pocket sprung deep mattress, but what turned up was 10cm thick, rolled up, only half covered in torn plastic and sellotape with a piece of thin cardboard wrapped around it. The wooden bed frame had clearly suffered on its journey to us as it was wrapped in the same thin cardboard with no other protection, and was badly chipped.
I couldn't get through on the customer services line, despite trying several times a day for two days. So I rang the sales line, which was picked up immediately. I was put on hold for a long time and then told I had to take photographs of the damage before they would believe me. I pointed out that they could come and collect it and see for themselves, but that wasn't 'procedure' apparently. So I uploaded photos, and they arranged to collect. They didn't turn up. So I rearranged it. That time they did come and take the items, but it was quite some time before my refund arrived, after several phone calls. Won't be using this company or any of their subsidiaries - looks like they have a large number.
Over the past couple of years we have bought a chest of drawers, a child's chair, a TV unit, a hall seat/storage unit and a shelf with coat hooks from Myakka. All arrived in perfect condition except for the shelf/coat hooks which had a chip, but which they promptly replaced. The delivery people were great and took all the packaging away, no hurrying us while we checked things over. The furniture is beautiful and solid (we always get compliments on it, especially the child's giraffe chair and the hall seat) and I think good value for money. We have our share of flat-pack stuff but this is in a different league and you can see it will last forever.
I ordered several appliances for my new kitchen from Redhill Appliances after using a price comparison website. Because I wanted to buy a double oven, dishwasher, and cooker hood I asked if they could do a bulk discount and was then told to ring Lee, manager at the Croydon showroom. He was efficient, businesslike but friendly, gave me some good discounts so I ordered. A day or so before they arrived I rang the main number in Redhill to ask something and spoke to a bored-sounding man who put me on hold for an age, but finally gave me the information I wanted.
They all arrived exactly when specified. I didn't install or use them for a couple of months as I'd not yet moved in to the house.
When I came to use the oven I discovered to my horror that it got incredibly hot on the outside - not something I have ever had before with any oven I've used. It was a big problem as far as I was concerned as I have young children, an open-plan kitchen/living room and it was hot enough to cause injury. Apparently this is completely within safety standards, as externally ovens are allowed to reach a temperature that can burn you! I had picked it out seeing that the spec said 'double glazed' oven doors and went on about safety.
So having read more on the internet and rung Bosch customer services (they sent a man out who took the temperature of the glass, agreed it was too hot to be touched and then said that was fine), I realized I didn't have a leg to stand on and was probably stuck with an oven I didn't feel I could safely use.
I rang Redhill Appliances anyway. After my conversation with Lee when ordering I knew I wanted to talk to him instead of the bored sales rep. Lee immediately agreed to replace the oven with a different one of equal value that I picked out (triple-glazed this time). He then rang back shortly afterwards to say that one wasn't going to be in stock for a couple of weeks so he would upgrade me to one of two more expensive ones (£50 more) at no cost to me, and would deliver it the next morning himself on his way into work. I checked out the specs, which were indeed better, and chose the Neff one.
True to his word Lee turned up, removed the Bosch one and helped us install the new oven, which has worked perfectly ever since (9 months later). I nearly kissed him but instead promised at the time I would write a glowing review, so here it is, albeit very late. Thanks - you are fab!
