We had renovated our cellar and needed a new sofa bed to fit into an awkward space. It was the getting-it-in part that was proving difficult as we have a "dog leg" hallway and nothing solid was getting through so I knew I had to search for self-assembly sofas. I was looking for around 4 months and was beginning to feel a bit Goldilocks and the three bears about it all....Ikea Karlstad.....just too big and expensive...Ikea Beddinge...too plain and uncomfortable....intosofa (another self-assembly sofa company)....too old fashioned, designs just didn’t suit us. When I found Nabru it was a Hallelujah moment. Firstly I was very impressed with their website and free fabric samples they sent after my enquiry. I loved the concept of tweaking the designs to suit our needs. I really felt like we got fantastic value for money, not just for the product which is amazing but for the entire experience. Communication was great too. After much deliberation over the correct size sofa, arm width and height, then the fabric….I placed our order Wednesday evening around 8/9pm and arrived Friday morning before 10am, and it only cost us £20 for delivery! Also the driver was nice and polite.
Ok so I did my homework on this one and read what felt like hundreds of warts and all reviews of this company on Google reviews, forums and anywhere else in-between to get a good idea of what they are like to deal with, what the sofas are like after a few months/years wear and how easy it is to solve a problem when something goes wrong. I went into this experience with my eyes wide open. The vast majority of the views were positive, very much so, but I also found the not so positive views interesting and it allowed me to read between the lines a bit.
The delivery and assembly bit-
We live in the North West so did not make it to the show room – great if you’re local. Also great if you’re local – the assembly service offered where your sofa is delivered, unpacked and put together stress free in 30mins in some cases –fantastic…but we don’t live in London. I was worried about all the people who had reported it took hours to put together, that drivers just dumped their sofa on the road outside their house in the rain etc. etc….delivery is either free for over a week, £10 within a week or £20 in less than a week, so you can’t really argue with that. So because we were prepared and knew what to expect we were not perturbed when the driver dropped our sofa off on a pallet wrapped in plastic for protection, in our front garden bright and early Friday morning. This was 20mins earlier than expected which is a bonus when you don’t have to wait around all day and you have a big puzzle to play with! Then my partner put the sofa together in about 1hr 30mins and he’s not the best when it comes to flat packed furniture but he actually enjoyed it. He agrees with the reviews that the arms were the most difficult bit to get on and that he kept putting the seat covers on the wrong way round but he got there in the end. Also good tip if you are self-assembling- you know how it’s put together so if you ever move you know what you’re doing taking it down and putting back up! Another good tip, YouTube has some good video tutorials on assembly.
We chose the Holland Pewter fabric. It has a nice, thick, irregular weave texture and looks great in a big piece (you don’t get the full effect in the small sample). We also ordered 2mtrs of the same fabric to cover a window seat pad to match the sofa. We went for the standard comfort option and it’s really comfy. It’s a bit memory foam like. It’s not the kind of sofa you sink into and can’t get out of…but I don’t like those style sofas, it’s a different kind of comfort. Its firm in one way and that makes the whole sofa feel strong and sturdy but it’s also spongy and soft in the kind of way you can curl up on it as it moulds to you. It’s the most comfortable sofa I’ve ever owned.
