Very disappointing attitude

I had some windscreen wipers fitted by the store staff. I was very happy with this service which was done straight away.

A few weeks later the wiper started to fall apart. Unfortunately I had lost the receipt and hoped the store staff culd help me by finding a copy of the receipt as I had paid by card.

I make a point of being as friendly and polite as possible as i used to work in a shop and now what some customers can be like but this was rewarded with 'don't care' and unhelpful attitude. When I asked to speak to the manager I was told there was no point as he would say the same thing, I insisted I would still like to speak with him.

After being kept waiting for half an hour I was told the manager would see me now and he is on the counter at the back of the store. I think it wouldve been more professional for him to come to me and listen to my concerns. As I approached the manager before I said a word these are the words that came out of his mouth "I aint doing it".
This instantly got my back up and at that point I wasn't leaving the shop without a new wiper blade.

I tried to be so polite but firm but he was so rude to me, saying that he gets thousands of requests like this without receipts and I could've bought it from anywhere even though it was an own brand wiper blade. I kept saying that I know I have a responsibility to provide a proof of purchase but surely out of goodwill he could help me as it is one of their own parts.

When I threatened to contact head office the manager seemed so offended and 'couldn't believe I threatened him with that'.

In the end I had to get my wife to fax a bank statement through before he would even look for the receipt, all the while i'm wrestling with a 1 year old and a 4 year old trying to occupy them. The manager to his credit did change the wiper blade eventually but rather annoyingly didn't even check the fax that was sent and went ahead and did t anyway.

Overall very disappointing and a really unproffesional attitude at all levels. I definitely will actively avoid this place in future.
