City Link

Very prompt and courteous

This was a delivery (from Reading area) ordered on Saturday and promised for Monday. Even so, delivery by 9am was pretty darn fast and almost caught me out - I'd told the sender that I could be out until 10am but this info didn't reach City Link. Very courteous driver, would recommend City Link as a delivery service.

Official Gatwick Parking

Worked fine for us

This was our first experience of using Gatwick's North Terminal Long Stay car park. Living near Guildford we usually use the train, but not for a check-in at 05.30. We had investigated off-site parking options, which were certainly cheaper, but we didn't like having to leave the car keys with them. Booking on-line was fairly straightforward; check around for discount vouchers from the Gatwick website.
Yes, it's a lengthy drive to the North car park but it is well signposted. Drove into zone Z at 04.30 and then had to drive around a bit to find a space, but managed it; quite close spacing, but no worse than the average supermarket. Bus arrived within a few minutes, a bit Spartan but empty, no problems.
Return trip (mid-afternoon) also hassle-free, bus arrived within 10 minutes, back to zone Z and away we went. Yes, we would do this again and yes we would recommend.

UK Tool Centre

First and last time

This hasn't been a good experience, and I don't plan to use UK Tool Centre again. I ordered a Hitachi drill with two 4Ah batteries on Tuesday 4 February, and was advised by email that it had been despatched on the 5th with 3-4 day delivery time. The company is based in Jersey (not apparent from the website), and OK the weather was bad then so there were problems with the freight boat, but I got conflicting info (by phone, 0845...) from Customer Services on the drill's whereabouts, no tracking information at all. Package was finally delivered on 12th, but case was labelled 'with 2 x 5Ah batteries'. Inside - no batteries at all, just the drill. I phoned again, and they agreed that the low weight of the package should have warned them that no batteries were inside. I asked them to simply send me two batteries (the actual drill was the right model) but no, I had to send back what I'd received while they sent out a replacement kit, so identical drills, chargers etc. have swapped in the post between Surrey and Jersey.
Today (17th) the correct drill set arrived (Royal Mail) and the return package was picked up (Interlink Express). So nearly two weeks, not 3-4 days. The chap in Customer Services was courteous throughout, but no compensation for delay and hassle forthcoming from the company. I'll stay with mainland suppliers from now on(like ToolStop where 'next day delivery' means just that).

We are extremely sorry for both the picking error that occurred on your order and the delay caused by the freight boats not sailing on the week of your order.

The picking error was entirely my fault, and I can but only apologise, the 5ah machine had been placed on top of the 4ah and I picked it in error. The weight would not have raised alarm in the dispatch team, this was something I noticed through investigation after your phone call with my colleague.

As the kits are sent direct from the manufacturer we do not currently keep any spare 5ah batteries, and the remaining stock of the kits also did not have batteries in, therefore I was unable to replace the batteries for you, I am sorry if this was not explained or made clear to you at the time.

The most appropriate action for us to take was to send the correct kit out to you, and arrange collection, so we may deal in house with the battery situation.

It is extremely rare for the freight boat not to leave the Island on a daily basis, we were experiencing F8 & F9 winds the majority of the week and any window of calm was not sufficient to sail. Unfortunately the weather is beyond our control and we advised any affected customers of the delay as soon as we were advised of this which was not until the Monday of the next week.

Our location would in normal circumstances not be an issue for delivery.

Lawson HIS

No need to chuck that drill...

Full marks to Lawson HIS for stocking a Makita keyless chuck to fit my mains-powered drill, after my chuck had jammed in the fully-open position. Their price was the best around, and delivery (Parcelforce) was very quick. Slightly lower marks for not warning me on their website that Makita had made a change in spec, such that the one supplied (correctly) by Lawson was a different part number. I was about to send it back but thankfully did a bit of research on the Makita website first. End result - I don't have to buy a new drill, and I'm happy to recommend this supplier.

Excellent service

On-line shopping can't get much better than this. We ordered a Meinl Bass Pedal Ebony Cajon on Monday evening and it was delivered by Parcel Force on Wednesday morning. The price was the best around, too. Very happy to recommend this company. Brilliant service.
