ACHICA

You need to have patience

I saw the television advertising and I was impressed by the professionalism of their website but I didn't read a single review. I ordered an Anglepoise lamp on 04/07/2012 and I knew that I was in for a long wait. The delivery window was estimated to be 25 - 30 July. John Lewis would have delivered within three days but then it would have cost me another £32 so I was prepared to wait for Achica to deliver. When there had been no delivery (or e mail to suggest an impending delivery) by 30/07/2012 I immediately e mailed the company. I received a reply by 31/07/2012 promising me a delivery 2 - 3 days later. This did happen and the goods are fine. So, I conclude that Achica don't fully deserve the reputation they seem to be getting. Their customer service was friendly and professional and so I award them 4 stars for service, removing one star from the possible five because I had to prompt them into action. Achica are victims of their own success and they need to carefully analyse the infrastructure of the company and totally overhaul their systems. Thank you for reading this and thank you Angela at Achica for dealing with my enquiry with sincerity.

Waitrose

A friendly and useful shopping experience

I have to travel far to find my nearest Waitrose as I live near Pickering, North Yorkshire. There is one in York, and one at Willerby near Beverley. I have also been to the branch in Harrogate. I love the system where you pick up a hand scanner and scan each item as you place it in your shopping bag. Then before leaving the store you can pay without queueing.
A lot of people think that Waitrose is prohibitively expensive, but I totally disagree. Yes, there is a lot of quality food and with this comes a higher price, but a lot of everyday items are the same price or less compared to the 'big three' supermarkets. As long as you stay in control and don't let too many luxury items seduce you then you will not be shocked when you pay. In York, which I have now adopted as my local store, the staff are so cheerful and helpful. It comes across that they actually want to be there and like helping people, which is not true of some of the other supermarkets. I have to negotiate a lot of traffic to get to Waitrose in York (Foss Islands Road) but it is well worth it. I highly recommend Waitrose, I just wish there was one nearer.

Simply Hike

Very caring organisation with excellent communications

Simply Hike have proved themselves to be a very reliable organisation with an excellent level of communication. They use e mail and 'chat' and the 'phone if necessary. I am reluctant to deal with any company over the web who do not allow you any direct contact. My first order was for Trangia spares and I had to wait for one of the items to be sent by the manufacturer. I was contacted through e mail on several occasions and kept fully informed as to the progress of my order. I would rather wait for a complete order than receive it all in bits. I have now placed two orders with Simply Hike and I am about to place a third. I like the videos where one of the staff explains the product. Good one Simply.
