I made the mistake of switching late last year. I just wish I had read these reviews first.
I only switched because First :Utility claim to be cheaper with the promise of a free smart meter.
But, after waiting for over 2 months, there was no sign of a smart meter. No contact, nothing. And the reason for their rates being cheaper is simple - unlike the Big Companies, First:Utility levy a large standing charge, which actually makes their rates much, much higher.
Having now switched back to BG, it has taken two formal complaints to even get them to acknowledge that I an no longer a customer.
Just now I am dreading their final bill, as their last one was grossly inaccurate.
As with many others, I really don't see why this awful company is still allowed to keep trading.
