I regret having booked my flight from San Francisco to Honolulu with United Airlines. I paid $3,247.43 for a 1st class seat, hoping I would have a comfortable flight. But I was so disappointed when our flight was delayed for 10hrs and all they can say was the aircraft hasn't arrived yet. No food or lounge was offered. The long queue to check in took us 1 1/2hrs. The flight was supposed to leave at 4:40pm on April 1, 2012, we left at 2:30am and arrived at our hotel 6:00am. The 1 night we paid at the hotel was wasted. The aircraft was so old, and the food, chicken with tomato paste tasted so bad. The seats are wide but can only be reclined not more than 45degrees. On the way back, the flight was once again delayed for an hour or so. Although they compensated us with 17,500 miles, the experience was traumatizing, they can never repay the time wasted.
For me, the best airline is Cathay Pacific. Always on time, very friendly staff. Their 1st class cabin is impressive, you will arrive very well rested, even if it is a long haul flight. You'll be able to sleep comfortably with their fully inclined spacious seats, with duvet blanket, pillows, free sleep wears and toiletries from Aesop inside a Trussardi pouch. Food is also great, have it anytime you want. Their steak is superb. I ordered it very well done, they gave it to me very well done and yet very soft. Their lounges are huge but sometimes congested. Some lounges like in Hong Kong have separate sections for business and 1st class, where 1st class section is more quiet and serene. Some lounges have shower rooms. The Wanton noodles in their Noodle bar is really good. Whether you're in business or 1st class, you should never miss their lounges. In Hong Kong, I highly recommend The Wing Lounge, especially when you're travelling 1st class
For me, Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort in Honolulu is the best. I love their location, it's along Kalakaua Ave, a street like the 5th Avenue of New York, where almost all the famous brand stores are there., like Hermes, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Bally, etc. And the other side of the hotel is just across the beach, where you can have surfing lessons, or just simply paddle and swim.
The Regency Club is very comfortable and clean, they serve breakfast and afternoon snacks. The balcony is facing the beach. And they have 2 computers with printer free for use.
The Japengo Japanese Restaurant is open only for dinner, and they serve really good food. The best for me is the Emperor's Steak.
Although the rooms are quite old, they are very spacious and clean.
The hotel staffs are 100% friendly and will go out of their way to help.
