Citalia

Ineffectual and Unhelpful

Just returned from Hotel Vesuvio after a 10 night stay on an all-inclusive basis with Citalia.

This was certainly not what we expected or paid for. Advised the Citalia representative the next day that we were not satisfied with the standard/quality of food amongst other concerns and requested that we be moved to another Hotel. The representative did nothing at all.
Do not use Citalia - try and find a reputable travel company. This was certainly not what we expected or paid for. Whilst this was shown as 4 star hotel in the Citalia brochure it was not as nice as some 4 stars we have previously stayed at. It is not modern and quite dated in certain areas.
We have never experienced such an awful reception at check- in – they seemed totally disinterested.
The room was clean and average sized. The bathroom was clean but dated and there was no window or extractor fan. Shampoo and shower gel were provided but no conditioner. The hair dryer was not very powerful. We paid extra for a sea view which was worth it as we had a stunning view of the bay of Sorrento and across to Mount Vesuvius.

The hotel is set in an wonderful, elevated location, set in pleasant gardens and is about 8 mins drive from the town of Sorrento. The hotel provide a free shuttle bus and while you could walk to the town the road is not very safe as there are no pavements for most of the way and buses and cars pass very close to the edge.

There is a nice pool with plenty of complimentary sun loungers and towels there are views across the bay at the far end of the pool.

We have stayed in many 4/5 hotels several times all around the world including some excellent all inclusive hotels. This is the first year that this hotel is offering all inclusive and it is not what we were expecting. It feels as if they are worried about costs so a limited and restricted all inclusive basis is offered. We were given identity wrist bands to signify the AI basis which must be worn at all times (!) but despite this we had to sign for everything. Breakfast was average and not particularly appetising. If you wanted toast you had to ask for it (cheap, basic bread) also the same with eggs (no bacon, sausage, pancakes etc). There was tinned fruit (some fresh) a few cereals, cheese, ham, yoghurt and pastries. Juice and coffee was from a machine. Lunch was buffet with a very limited selection and very poor limp salad. Snacks during the day from 10am to 6pm consisted of a sandwich made from horrible dry white bread – don’t expect chiabbata or panini for example. There was also some homemade ice cream. Evening meal was waiter service but you had choice from a menu, you had a choice of 4 starters and 4 main meals. On the whole the starters and sweets were good, we had a very good Tiramisu one night, however there was only 1 or maybe 2 choices of sweet and some fruit. The portions were fairly small, and hot food was usually luke warm. The main courses were awful. Don’t expect Italian food – the fare is dreadful.

Drink with your meal was a bottle of wine, no single glass, or a small beer, or a bottle of water. You can’t get a G+T or rum and coke with your lunch or evening meal for example. These types of drinks are available from the bar only from 1pm to 11pm. The all inclusive drinks menu is limited, no cocktails.

All meals are inside the air conditioned restaurant and whilst there are wonderful views across the bay and surrounding countryside we prefer to eat outside when it is warm and this wasn’t an option unless you paid for a la carte lunch (no evening meal outside dining option was available).

There is a definite demarcation between all inclusive and pay as you go. An a la carte lunch option was available and we observed that the choice and variety of meals and drinks was better.

At times we were very confused about what was available on the A/I as one afternoon we went to get an ice cream from the freezer and was told we could not have that one as it was not part of the all inclusive. They also have lots of crisps (loads of choice) at the pool side bar which are not part of the All Inclusive, there is a charge for these, so be aware. You may get an extra bill when you checkout at the end of the week.

The bar and waiting staff were very friendly and bar/meal waiting service was very good. The reception staff were not very friendly or particularly helpful.
The area is fantastic and we had a lovely holiday. We went to Pompeii, Castellemare (via cable car), Capri, Positano and Amalfi. We also did The Almalfi Drive and Amalfi coastal boat trip both of which were great and highly recommended.

In summary average hotel, below average food (A/I), limited drinks (A/I) lovely views, wonderful area with plenty to see and do, friendly and attentive waiting staff.

Fineflora

Disgraceful Company - Avoid

Ordered flowers on 30 May for delivery on 5 June for my sister's birthday.
Received confirmation of order and payment taken 30 May.
Flowers not delivered.
Company ignoring request for refund in view of breach of contract so am now taking appropriate action.
Avoid this company - they are not reputable.

Peter Tyson Audio/Visual

Excellent in all respects

This company is on a par with John Lewis for providing excellent all round service. The pricing is very competitive, the staff knowledgeable and customer service brilliant. Delivery service is second to none.
Thoroughly recommended - when I next purchase any audio visual products, I would buy from them and not even try John Lewis.
