Took out car hire excess insurance for first time for long trip down-under, involving about 6 weeks of car hire in different places. The premium for annual cover was less than a tenth of the charges the car hire companies would have levied.
Must admit I thought there had to be a catch but was hoping to avoid making a claim.
After an argument with a concrete plinth outside a petrol station, where the car came off worst, I ended up having to pay the excess of approx. £2000 to hire company, Hertz.
They sent an informative final bill which came to about £900 and promptly refunded the balance - 5 stars to them! They also sent copies of all paperwork, which I forwarded to the claims section as noted on my insurance details. I very promptly, and without argument, received full payment of the £900 - 5 stars for service to White Horse who underwrite the Questor Insurance.
I have every intention of using the company again and can unreservedly recommend them based on my experience.
TOP TIP: It makes your claim easier to settle if you make sure you keep EVERY piece of paper to do with your car rental, and the same should you have an accident. Take your own photos of any damage, to the rental car and anything/anyone else involved.
I have used the company to buy skis. boots and servicing gear. Both online and in-store, the service has been prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. On the one occasion there was a delay with an order, an email elicited an immediate response and the goods arrived next day. Customer service that many larger retailers could do well to learn from.
