Toshiba

Toshiba will say anything to get out of their warranty!

A three month old Toshiba Laptop developed a line down one side of the screen. The line turned into a bar that continued to grow, getting wider each time it was booted up. Called Toshiba, and got an RMA number along with directions to ship it back. I even had to pay for the shipping. When they received it, their reply was "physical damage - not covered".

They offered to fix it for $350.00. I elected to have to returned to me. Now that they had refused to repair it, I took the screen out, where it was clear that they had not bothered to remove it. My guess is all they did was power it up and see that the screen was bad and claim physical damage. There was NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE, no crack, no mark, no nothing on the screen, plus the changing size and type of the bar on the screen is symptomatic of electronic failure (this is an LED screen), not physical damage. But that didn't matter to Toshiba. I followed all this up with one of their "Case Managers", who made it clear that they had an excuse not to meet their obligation under the warranty.

Luckily, I found a replacement screen at ScreenCountry.com for $67.00. Replaced it while sitting in my Lazy-boy, drinking a cold one, and watching TV. Laptop works great now, I just hope nothing else goes wrong because it is clear to me that the warranty is worthless! I was told that Toshiba Customer Support was terrible before I purchase this laptop, I should have listened.

ScreenCountry Inc

Great assistance, Low price, and Saved a New Laptop

Toshiba refused to stand behind a three month old laptop. I was ready to throw it in the trash. On a whim, I searched for a replacement screen, but thinking that it would be too expensive. First hit was ScreenCountry. The price was very reasonable for their screens, however they did not have my laptop listed (my Toshiba was too new). So I emailed a request and they responded the same day. On their web site I was able to upload pics of the three different tags on the back of my screen. Again on the same day they provided a replacement number. The replacement arrived a couple of days later. I replaced the screen, while sitting in my Lazy-boy, drinking a cold one, and watching TV (lucky it was only a 15 inch screen, a 17 inch would have been too big to replace on my lap).

Works great, the matte finish on the replacement screen, reduces the glare and makes it a better laptop than when first purchased. I just hope that nothing else goes wrong with this laptop. Toshiba will say anything to get out of their obligation of their standard year warranty. Last time for Toshiba.....
