Halfords
where do we start with this lot?
oooh boy, if there ever was a supremely inefficient box shifting company, this lot are it! First of all, Halfords are huge, which means they have lots of animals in the zoo, thats a lot of wages to pay and they get paid a pittance which feeds what's-the-point-shoulder-shrugging approach to sales. But thats a digression. I just wanted to buy a bike, one of the Boardmans....turned out to be the biggest waste of time ever, you reserve, it tells you its in stock, you get there, oh-no-it's-not! over and over.....I actually started to get paranoid thinking a higher power was working against me. No, just Halfords breathtakingly low rent web based ordering/reserve system. Anyway, I think Mr Boardman was definately given a good deal having to sell his bikes through Halfords, keeps the price down sure but then you have to go through this maddening stress to get one...forcing you give up and go elsewhere, nice bikes..shame about the dealer.Maybe one day these companies will listen to the plebs who put the money in the till eh? no? of course not.

take it or leave it....
used to be Oldham Cycle Centre, changed to Surosa when bought out.....just not the same LBS as once it was. Plenty of nice stock on show but no real deals available...just pre-set pricing with no flexibility and very low stock levels. Chap who runs it seems nice enough but doesn't have that desire to help you spend money...take it or leave it really.
Website poor with again very limited stock on show making you look elsewhere.
I'm finding this in many over the counter experiences of late not just this one.

what happened?
this lot you could at one time set your watch by. The only place you'd need but somewhere a fall from grace has happened. Long, LONG delivery times, prices not so competitive as once was, other smaller companies now under cutting them. seen loads of complaints about them too. I bought my last item from them a couple of months ago and I now search elsewhere and exhaust my list before I buy from them now. Just can't rely on the delivery times.....

good experience, nice guys and good price!
bought my Nukeproof Mega through these guys last November, nice chaps with good friendly service. Location is not what you'd expect but I kind of liked that. Got in touch when the Nukeproof recall was announced and sent me the replacement as promised. Good prices and flexible to compete. I don't normally write reviews but lately the retail bike industry is a puzzling one - G.B. no problems so far but some retailers I'm amazed they survive with their take or leave it attitude.
Global all good for me so far :-) Keep up the good work guys!
