Why buy second hand?

I had a remote control handset for a ceiling fan fail and so went onto eBay to source a replacement. There were two and I bid on both, missing each at £20.50 and £26.30 including postage. When "similar items" came up there was the Total Warehouse offer of a complete unit for £24.99 with free delivery. I didn't even wait for the second auction to finish. My order was with me within two working days. Communications were great and the handset worked first time with the existing receiver. So not only did I get a brand new handset with guarantee but I have a spare receiver!
