Fairly straightforward

The process was simple to understand. The thing we don't feel comfortable with is giving direct debit instruction before the final policy offer has been accepted.

Thank you for your feedback.

I would however like to clarify that bank details are not required to receive a quote but these quotes are based on the life assured not having any medical disclosures.

By applying for the cover you are asking the insurance company to underwrite you personally based on your individual circumstances, which can involve the insurer spending their cash requesting medical information from your GP (who charges for this service).

They therefore require the completed direct debit details as a form of commitment from you that you are serious about taking out the insurance and so that if you do proceed they can hold cover (start the policy) on your instructions.

You are however not committed to take out the policy and no money would be taken from your account until the application had been fully underwritten and accepted by the insurer and if there was any change to the initial quoted premium we would advise you of this before commencing the policy.

You are free to cancel the application or the policy itself at any stage without penalty, and the Direct Debit Guarantee is strong and does work in the event that you need to reverse a payment that is taken in error which is extremely unusual.

I hope this explains the situation and puts your mind at rest.

Kind regards, Mike Ward.
