I booked with alpharooms, made payment successfully through their website and received an invoice and voucher from them by email. A week or so later I checked my credit card online and saw that payment had not been taken. So I checked my booking through the alpharooms website and saw to my surprise that it had been cancelled. They did this without notifying me in any way. I contacted alpharooms who told me that they had cancelled it because they had not been able to obtain payment on my card, even though there was no indication of payment not going through at the time. By the time I contacted them the price of the booking had gone up by £100. My suspicion has to be that they did not want to honour the booking because the price was going up.
It's a good thing I checked the booking before I left - the inconvenience had I turned up at the hotel expecting my booking to be honoured would have been substantial.
Alpharooms' terms and conditions state "Once the booking is confirmed we will issue you with your invoice. This is confirmation of your booking". They are in breach of this - they are claiming that their confirmation of my booking was not confirmation. Very frustrated and I'm seriously thinking about taking legal action.
