Unecessary over packaging of orders

I ordered a lip gloss which was sent in a box big enough for a toaster! This meant it couldn't be delivered by the postman and I had to go pick it up from the depot.
I then ordered a single eyeshadow which was also sent in a box that was far too big for it. This again meant it couldn't be delivered and I had to collect from the depot.
I don't understand why they don't send small items in padded envelopes like most other companies. This would avoid unnecessary delays and be better for the environment.
Other than this minor issue the products themselves were fine and hqhair are a trustworthy online retailer.
