Shiply plays on "neutral venue" status to be "unaccountable"
How this company ever managed to receive any "business awards" I have no idea and I would urge anyone who is considering using them to do so at their own risk. If this review saves just one person from losing money by using this company then my job is done ;)
It works like this;
You place an advert in their auction style service for a transport provider, the transport providers (who are unverified by the way) give you quotes which you have the option of accepting. Once accepting you then have to pay a fee to Shiply, another fee as a "deposit" for the transport provider (NOTE: They keep this "deposit" for themselves) and then you can arrange with the transport provider to collect your item.
All sounds ok so far? Yes, but if something goes wrong then you could end up seriously out of pocket. You see, Shiply don't refund, all they offer are credit notes which to be honest aren't much use if you don't want to use the company again and why would you, since if you add the multiple fees together you would be better off organising the transport yourself. Don't think paypal offers any protection either as they seem to think that their operation works on a "neutral venue" basis. Watch out for this in their "user agreement";
"We are not a transportation service provider, freight forwarder, broker or intermediary of any sort. The Site acts as a neutral venue through which Transport Providers and Users can meet and enter into negotiations with a view to entering into Transactions. We are in no way involved in the actual Transaction. We have no, and assume no, control over the quality, safety, or legal aspects of the Jobs and/or Transactions that take place through the Site."
No way involved in the transaction eh? Apart from taking a FEE that enables the transaction to continue!!
I have already reported them to Watchdog and Trading Standards and Trading Standards are shall we say, very interested in their "user agreement"
Use one of the many other transport providers out there that don't charge huge fees, a google search will point you in the right direction.
