I went off, cap in hand to Eurotunnel, hoping for a reasonable deal, only to find that their prices are somewhat steep - in both directions.
To rub salt into my wounds, I discovered quite a long time ago that starting ones journey in either France or Belgium is always cheaper than beginning the identical journey from London. I was and still am really puzzled as to how an identical journey should come with a discrepancy of this sort.
But I'm getting slightly off the point. The real point was to search for and find a 72- hour ticket by the 'wet route' given that there are quite a few routes to choose from. Always one for choice and variety, I looked at the various options and ended up buying a return ticket with AFerry.co.uk - at an amazing price!
You can sort of imagine how chuffed I am. I haven't forgotten about the extra costs however of driving to and from Dover and almost an hour on the
'other side' to reach my French destination. At the moment, I am re-registering with a Lift-Share outfit to see if I can give someone like me who enjoys autumn travel a lift either outbound or inbound, seeing as how three empty seats is such a temptation. Having worked for the Railways since 1990 in five different roles allowed me to 'read' people who daily approached me for information or advice, so should this arise in the future I am well set-up to do exactly that.
