'Unable to deliver parcel' WHY? We were in all day and waiting for it!

Having read so many of the other stories on this site, I wasn't surprised when I discovered that the DPD driver had put a card through the door WITHOUT KNOCKING, when my husband & I were both waiting in for the delivery. What is the point of their doing this? It surely makes no sense!! Delivery now rescheduled for Monday, when my husband will be in ALL DAY. Let's see....

The other problem is that it is impossible to reschedule delivery online, because the 'unique' reference number isn't 'unique' at all. The cards are recycled, so that when you log in it tells you that your parcel was delivered & signed for by somebody else 5 months ago! This means you have no option but to ring up and hang on for 20 minutes+ until somebody answers. This has happened to me twice.

To be fair, the young women I spoke to on both occasions were sympathetic & helpful, but they were having to deal with a faulty set-up - and no doubt irate customers more often than not.

Why is it so difficult to get such a service right?

UPDATE 19th November: Item arrived safely today. Phew!
