I found a carpenter, building some really lovely handmade furniture on eBay. We discussed the specifications of the furniture we wanted built and then I realised - he was in Leeds and I am in Buckingham.
How to transport two pieces of heavy wooden - obviously not flatpacked - furniture apart form hiring a van at the weekend (yes, you can't just hire for a Saturday) and doing it ourselves? That's £95 for the van and another £60 probably for the fuel. Plus our time - which let's face it, is precious to everyone at a weekend.
Through Anyvan, Colin and his wife Sharon quoted a (much cheaper) price for our collection and delivery, collected from the carpenter at all of our convenience one day and then delivered at all of our convenience on another day. Excellent, what a great idea for a business Anyvan. And thanks too, to Colin and Sharon for saving us time, money and hassle :)
Quidco is such a good website. I always shop via the site for retailers I know give cashback and when I am buying something I don’t buy often / haven’t bought before I search through Quidco for cashback retailers first, although obviously I compare prices before using them. I have the premium account and don’t begrudge my £5 a year at all, the payment is regular every week straight into my bank account so long as I’ve earned more than £1 and in the (rare) event of a delay or a non-pay out (always check a retailer’s T&Cs) Quidco have intervened for me. So their service is great too. I’ve never won extra cash or any of their competitions either – I’m just giving an unbiased opinion. Go on, if you’re shopping on the internet anyway – go via Quidco!
I found some really funky Ray Bans I loved on the Sunglasses Shop website. I'd never heard of them but the price and free delivery attracted me. What can I say? Fantastic! I ordered them in the evening, next morning had and email saying they'd been despatched and they were sent safely via UPS the next day. Genuine, brand new Ray Bans. I am very pleased and impressed - will definitely use again :)
I sent my bits to Music Magpie in mid October, paid in mid November. I understand that the items need reviewing and testing but really... I gave my bank details when I registered to sell, but got an email after about two weeks asking me to "verify" them which I immediately did but which apparently took 3-5 working days for anyone at Music Magpie to accept and then another 3-5 working days for the transfer of money when I can't think of any individual or organisation who has transferred money to / from a bank account within the last year and it has taken more than 24 hours. Enjoy the CDs Music Magpie, you got a lot of highly resellable stuff for a small outlay. Next time I'll stick to eBay.
