Often, you don't get the reality of what the "extra charges" will be until you actually pick-up the rental car. Example---Portugal ---- You can "select" or "reject" a "toll payment" device for your windshield at the cost of 1.5 Euro per day. Ask questions until you get clarity on a response. If we had not "selected" to take the toll payment device, we would have had to look for a "post office to pay our road tolls within 48 hours of returning the car. " (Hard to do on a Sunday return date to the airport, or after you have already flown back to the US.) We noticed that many toll booths are now unmanned in Portugal. We would not have expected Auto Europe to know the answer to this strange, local rule. The rental car was ready at pick-up time. Documents were in order. The agent examined the car with us and marked the extra damages not already noted. Gas was full and a map was offered. Upon rental return, the process was thorough and I was offered an oppurtunity to pay in Euros the balance due for extra charges rather than having it charged to my credit card. Very good service! We, as always, are comfortable with Auto Europe personnel and never hesitate using them for our rental needs.
