Worst delivery service of all time

Absolutely appalling. How can something so simple like delivering a parcel be done so badly and made so complicated?

Do not use these jokers under any circumstance. Instead of delivering your stuff, they prefer to hang on to it until you hassle them enough to try again.

They tried to deliver on a Thursday when we were out, putting a card thru the door. The card says if this is the first delivery attempt (it was), they'll try again the next day ( they didn't, or the next day). And if it was the second attempt (it wasnt) I need to choose a redlivery option. These options include paying £12 ransom for the delivery of my parcel! Or collecting it from a depot 25 miles away.

Listen you cretins, I've paid to have the item delivered, the onus is on YOU to deliver it, not for me to have to chase around the country, call you to rearrange deluvery when youve only made one attempt, or pay you again. most other delivery companies get that; why don't you?

Anyway, 2 days later when the DPD van arrived in our close delivering to another address without my parcel,  (the driver said he was just filling in for the driver in our area who had been "having difficulties") I called them.

Going thru their automated phone system, I entered my delivery code, and it told me a postcode, which bore no resemblance to my postcode. I got thru to an operator quite quickly (the only positive thing about the service to date).  After explaining the situation and my dissatisfaction, the stroppy and argumentative phone operator didnt apologise - just said that the parcel was "being held" (whatever that means) at the depot, with no explanation why, and that the best she could do was organise a redelivery attempt in another 2 days time.

I said ok if that's the best you can do, then she started talking some jargon about did I want it left "under authorization". Which it turns out means leaving with a neighbour or elsewhere if I'm not in. She was basically accusing me at this stage of potentially committing the sin of not being in when they were trying to deliver my parcel. Though my wife is almost always in, I said ok leave with a neighbour or in the porch if you have to, at which the operator again asked, so you're not going to be in? And I had to explain that they should firstly try to deliver it, if not possible leave with a neighbour and then if not possible leave in the porch. You'd think a delivery company wouldn't need basic stuff like that explaining...

The final straw was that even though I've given her authorization just now, I still have to fill in a form to leave on my doorstep (the perfect invitation to the burglars who have been recently active in our area) so the driver knows its ok to leave the parcel elsewhere. WHY CAN'T YOU COMMUNICATE THIS SIMPLE MESSAGE BETWEEN YOURSELVES YOU IDIOTS?

At this stage I was so frustrated I swore at the operator, who to be fair, did handle that in a reasonable way, fairly politely asking me not to swear.

So, instead of arriving within 2 days, my parcel will arrive, at best within 5 days. If this is typical of the service dpd give (and looking at other reviews here it may well be) I can't see why firms would use them. I'm off now to post a negative review for k&n air filters, who are one such firm, I would imagine putting saving money ahead of acceptable customer service.
