As requested I am providing feedback for Trustpilot on my recent purchase of a Dometic RM123 Fridge.
This item is being marketed as an ideal replacement for use in classic campers such as the early VW t2 and t25's.
I have a t25 Westfalia, California and my original Electrolux fridge had given up the ghost after 23 years excellent service.
The Dometic RM125 seemed to be an ideal replacement as it was described as being in keeping with the classic interior.
What is not mentioned however is the very considerable modification needed when fitting this item. It is certainly not a case of out with the old and in with the new!
For a start this fridge is smaller in width by some 40mm so one has to make adjustments to the existing furniture. Secondly the heater flue is on the opposite side at the back. This means cutting another hole in the side of the vehicle, not something you want to do if you want to maintain originality! The alternative is what I have done and that is to extend and re direct the flue so that it can exit in the proper place.
This was not an easy job but slightly more difficult than having to re direct the gas line in which has to be done as the connection is now underneath the fridge and not on top as on the original!
The most annoying thing though was that after two days of fiddling around and having at last got everything where it should be and all connected up when trying to start it on gas nothing happened!!!
I had not noticed that there was no 12 volt wiring provided for the ignition system.
All that it needed was 18 inches of two core cable looping the 12 volt input to the ignition module so I had to take the whole thing out and start again. As you can imagine by now I was not a happy bunny!
One last thing I forgot to mention was when the fridge arrived it had a broken door catch, (which is being replaced) and also the mains cable had a sticker on it marked 12VOLT!
I wonder if my fridge could have been made on a Friday afternoon?
I have at last got it fitted and operational but my feelings are that it is not a patch on the original in terms of quality and I will be most surprised if it lasts another 23 years, not that I shall I suppose.
