On Saturday 14th September, whilst on holiday, I ordered and reserved, on line, an Asus Nexus Google 2 and, as part of the advertised bundle, an Asus Nexus case saving an alleged £5. I collected these items from Currys Christchurch store that day. I returned home on Sunday night, 15th September, I put the tablet in the case and was surprised to find the main camera did not seem to work. On examination this was because the case had no aperture for the camera meaning that the only way it could be used was to take it out of the case. In addition the case did not fit well, had holes which appeared to serve no purpose and the on off and volume switch buttons did not line up.
I returned the case, on Monday 16th September 2013, to Currys Richmond store and was, initially, told that I would have to take it back to the store of purchase. I explained that the store was 100 miles away and I had no intention of travelling that distance to return the case. I was then told that I could not return the case in any event as I had only 21 days and it had to be in its original packaging. I advised the store assistant of my consumer rights under law and pointed out the fact that the case was not ‘fit for purpose’. Eventually the assistant examined the case and stated that it was a case for the original Nexus and not the Nexus 2 and totally useless as it did not fit properly, had no camera aperture, no speaker aperture and no microphone aperture. I was told that if this had happened in his store the member of staff responsible would have been severely dealt with. He checked the stock system and advised me that they had no stock of the cases for the Nexus 2 but would offer a refund. I stated that I did not want a refund but wanted the correct case. As he was unable to help he advised that I might try Currys ‘megastore’ in Brentford.
I drove to Brentford and repeated my complaint only to be told again that Currys did not stock the case for the Nexus 2. I stated that I wanted a refund and was told that, as I did not have the same credit card on me that I used for the purchase, I could not get a refund only a gift card. I asked to see a manager who repeated this mantra and advised me that I had only 21 days to return the item, with my credit card or I would not be able to get a refund.
Still no case for my tablet and no response from Currys customer service. Moral of the story - don't buy anything from Currys as they cannot be trusted to supply what they say they will or what you need.
