Until recently my experience with 123reg had been ok and I never had any problems with the few domains I've registered with them.
However, I logged in to update a domain I own with them to redirect to a blog, but the domain had gone.
I paid 123reg to renew the domain, but they failed to pay the registry so the domain was lost. A third party bought it and wants $2050 for it!
I am not paying $2050 for 123reg's mistake, and to make it worse their support staff have been completely dismissive & try to avoid taking responsibility at every opportunity.
They even have the audacity to tell me they failed to pay the registry, but the loss of the domain is my fault for not checking with a third party that they did their job!
This example shows serious incompetence and a lack of care for customers when they make a mistake.
Any domain registrar should know how to renew domains without losing them, and in any case of a renewal failing they should at least detect this so that action can be taken. 123reg failed to do their job here and try to escape responsibility so they don't need to pay for their mistake.
I could forgive a mistake if they made up for it, but their attitude is unbelievably bad.
Atrocious customer service & incompetence. I will try to transfer all of my domains away from this terrible company!
