Had IOL done about a year ago (Jan 2011), then laser surgery (Dec 2011) at the Birmingham Clinic, although it has corrected a fair amount of short-sightedness in which I am grateful for but I was amazed to be discharged by the Optometrist when I have been expressing concern that my vision is hazy and dull 24/7, that seeing things within arms length is poor and when asked if my vision now is the same as when I wore contact lenses and I said "No it is not" and that I can get about and see objects but it wasn't ideal also that I rarely drive anymore, (which is so annoying & fustrating) which has made me less independant also that the fairly large eye floater that occured after the IOL Op causes my vision to become cloudy/blurry whenever I move my eye and now that the weaker eye has to work even harder it causes that eye to strain, my eyes feel tired all the time and I get black specks that appear now and again I have found that I get regular headaches especially on cloudy days (which my Opticianist said that I would more than likely get).
I know that she had mentioned this previously to my Surgeon previously so I would have thought that the Surgeon would have at least taken the time to see me to make sure everything was OK and to listen to a few of my concerns and give me some kind of explanations as to why my vision is not 100% and not have left it for the Optometrist to deal with especially when I had a complex prescription to begin with.
I just feel that the personal care from the Surgeon could of been much much better given the severity of my vision and the increasing risk factor of having surgery so I would have expected better and especially when it cost me nearly £6,000.00, whats more concerning is the fact that he hasn't even bothered to find out what the outcome of the final surgery has been!! (Duty of Care somewhat lacking, comes to mind)!!
All I can say is make sure you choose a Surgeon who is caring, who is willing to make time for you and listen to his patients and reassure you especially when things do not turn out as you would have hoped and not try to avoid or dismiss you.
