We made a reservation with rentalcars for a vehicle from JFK. We had an issue with the type of vehicle as selected on the rentalcars site. Our rentalcars reservation was with Budget for a 4-door car.
Now I'm aware that some models show "2/4 door" and this means you could get either a 2 or 4-door vehicle. We actually chose a model displaying only "4-door". The reason being because we have 2 young kids and require easy access for them.
However on arriving at JFK, we were informed that they had a 2-door vehicle for us and that if we wanted a 4-door, we would have to upgrade for a price of course. When I mentioned that the rentalcars site expressly said 4-door, they told us not to pay attention to the conditions as written on the site. End of story. They didn't want to hear any more from us, and we basically HAD to upgrade because of the kids.
My point is that something is wrong if you can enter into a rental agreement on the rentalcars site for a certain product and someone at the other end can choose not to honour that agreement, and even go as far to say that it doesn't matter what is written when you book on site.
And I thought long and hard before giving only 1 star, but when finally we walked out back to get to our upgraded car, we actually passed a 4-door Ford Focus identical to the one in the photo when I reserved on the rentalcars website, of which Budget said they had none left. Even my wife, who would normally say nothing in such a situation, felt obliged to return to the Budget office to question why we did not get the 4-door Ford Focus parked out back. Of course, she was fobbed off.
To rentalcars, apolgies if you feel my complaint should be with Budget and not yourselves, but my contract was with rentalcars and rentalcars must ensure that car hire companies with whom you work respect what is written in the rental agreements. If rental companies can renege on an agreement, then what is the agreement worth?
Yes, I have used rentalcars in the past and it was a pleasant experience but this has made me think twice about using you again.
I received the item as ordered within the time frame as stated for the price quoted BUT the box containing the Springbank 15 Year was damaged. If it was for me, I wouldn't mind, but in this case it was given as a Christmas present.
