123-reg

Took money for domain renewal, haven't renewed domain, ignore tickets

I got a receipt from PayPal referring to 123-reg taking the autorenew bill for my domain, two years worth about a week ago. Then at the weekend I got an email from 123-reg warning me that if I didn't log in an manually renew my domain that it would be lost. I did a WHOIS search on the domain and it has not been renewed. I submitted a ticket to 123-reg (they don't provide any kind of telephone support, and their 'live chat' that they suggest you use if it's urgent returns an apology saying it's only open 9am-7pm Monday to Friday. Even at 6pm on a Thursday). I got a standard reply saying it was being escalated to systems administration (why? Its a billing/dom reg issue, not a hosting issue). Nothing since.

I'm fully expecting to lose my domain when it comes up for renewal on Sunday. 123-reg can expect to find themselves in court if that happens. I've already put a complaint into their registry partners (Tucows.com) and I will also chargeback with PayPal if necessary. In fact, it will become my personal mission for 2013 to shut these feckers down (if they do it to me by lapsing my domain then I feel pretty entitled to do it right back to them).

Avoid.

Hi,

I am sorry to see that you had an issue with the renewal of your domain name. If you could provide the ticket ID or domain name, either on here or by sending the details over to customerexperience@123-reg.co.uk, I will have a look into your issue and aim to get this resolved ASAP for you.

Regards,

Nerys
