I purchased a Groupon last year for a weekend retreat as a gift for my mother and I. When we arrived we were appalled to find that you were forced to engage in all aspects of the weekend whether you liked it or not, for example group meditation when we preferred to take a prayer walk. Also they refused to allow us any private time. It was almost cultish.
In addition their was serious health and safety concerns with exposed electrics in the treatment rooms, which were not at all private. We were forced to take treatments together with people that we didn't know, and up until after 11pm at night! Needless to say we left after the first night and booked ourselves into a hotel up the road. We tried to speak to the owner before we left but she was dismissive.
When we returned home we contacted Groupon and they agreed to provide us with a full refund if we would accept a credit note on the account or the offer of a full investigation if we wanted a cash refund, which would take a little longer. As a regular Groupon user I was happy to take the credit note.
I would have given them 5 stars, except it did take several weeks for the refund to be processed and for some reason it came in small instalments into my account. But otherwise I was very happy with the way they dealt with it.
My family and I encountered terrible anguish over the Christmas period following two vouchers I purchased from Wowcher for a 2 night break at The Crown at Hopton, Shropshire. The deal was advertised as offering Christmas or New Year’s dinner and breakfast at a cost of £135 per voucher.
But I had a call from The Crown at just after 3pm advising me that they were in fact only offering Christmas Lunch and that we'd missed it! After trying to appeal to them (given we were actually sold a voucher for dinner) they advised that there was nothing they could do as Wowcher had advertised the deal incorrectly and we spent the best part of the Christmas afternoon having to organise alternative accommodation and food!
I contacted Wowcher on the 28th Dec 2012, and despite their claim to take 3 working days have been given the run around with delayed responses. At first I was told that the issue lay with the merchant and not with them and directed to the terms and conditions. I duly directed them to the terms and conditions that clearly state that if I request a refund within 7 days and have not redeemed the voucher that I should receive one.
As of today they have refunded only 1 of the 2 vouchers I purchased for this deal and take days to respond to any request for assistance or information. Unlike Groupon who have an exceptionally good customer service.
I have also requested a credit to my wowcher account in recognition of the fact that they absolutely ruined our Christmas. To this request they haven't even bothered to respond at all!
I have used Wowcher many times. In fact I have purchased about 40 deals from them over the past few months. And I am alarmed at how poor the service is once they have your money!
And just in case they actually read this review and wish to help resolve the matter - I will provide my voucher details below so that I am not forced to send them YET ANOTHER EMAIL!

In the spirit of fairness, this is the first problem I have encountered with their customer service. If they resolve this matter satisfactorily I will be sure to update my review.
